Sophia’s Revenge – Chapter 75

Xander’s POV

That first night that Lucy stayed in bed with us was horrible. Neither one of us got any sleep. She was every which way in bed. Finally, at four am I couldn’t do it anymore and got out of bed and went to my office. When I sat down at my desk, I found an envelope addressed to me. I ripped it open to see who left it.

Alpha,

Well, the other night didn’t go as planned. Your beta wasn’t supposed to be killed. They were supposed to take your mate. I wanted you to feel it every time I took her. I want you to suffer just as your family has made me suffer. I must admit that when I bought Sophia as a toddler, I had no clue that she would be mated to you and I had no idea what you would do to me, but my patience will be worth it in the end. To know that you have suffered the loss of your beta and the pain you will feel when I make her my queen. Don’t worry, I will be watching you and when you least expect it, I will take her.

The Rouge King

I threw everything off my desk. I had no clue who this a*****e was, but I was going to find him, and I was going to destroy him.

“Jax, can you think of anyone we have wronged?”

“I mean, being an Alpha, not everyone agrees with your choices, so there are some out there.”

“That’s no help.”

I pulled out files of pack members that I had banished but it didn’t make sense. There were only a few of them and they wouldn’t have bought a human. I moved on to enemy packs, but this guy said he was the rouge king. He doesn’t have a pack like we do. The Rouges were disgusting, they didn’t have anything, they certainly weren’t capable of creating a kingdom, especially without the council knowing. I was going to have to call them at a later hour. I continued to go through anything I thought may give a clue but came up with nothing. I finally pulled up my laptop and found that my private accountant had reviewed my financials and agreed that something was off. He found several hundred thousand dollars missing. He said he was still trying to find a pattern to trace it to someone. Great, this is all we need, someone stealing money.

“Dad, I know it’s early, but I need you in my office.” I linked him.

“Son, it’s six am.”

“I know but it is important.”

“OK, let me shower and I will be there.”

I continued to pull any information that I could find about anyone that would want to harm Sophia or me. I was coming up empty handed. I gave up and went to get some coffee from the dining hall. It was going to be a long day. When I returned to my office my dad was there sitting at the table waiting for me.

“You, know when you ask someone to come to your office, usually you are there waiting for said person.” My dad said.

I just glared at my dad and threw the letter at him. I watched his expression as he read the letter. He was just as confused as I was.

“Dad, do you have any idea who this might be?”

“No, I mean I know I have some enemies out there, but not to this extent.”

“We need to figure this out fast. I am going to have Luke and Trevor come help.”

I sent Luke a mind link and ran up to Trevor’s’ room to have him come down but when I knocked on his door he wasn’t there. I ran my hands over my face because I knew where he was, and I didn’t even want to think about that. I knew he was in my sister’s room. I will just get him later. I went back to my office to find my dad had spread maps out on the table and Luke was half asleep in a chair. I knew he had been doing double duty since losing Kane and when Konner got here, I needed to give him some much-needed time off.

“Alright, what did you guys come up with?” I asked.

“Nothing yet. I thought we would start by marking out all the packs that are relatively close and marking the ones that we’re on good terms and bad terms with different colored pins. Once we have them marked out, we can start calling the ones we’re on good terms with to see if they have seen or heard anything weird.” My dad said.

“Good idea dad.”

We sat down and started marking out each pack and putting their names with their locations. We were on our third map when Sophia knocked and walked. I didn’t want her in here. I rushed to her so that she couldn’t get all the way in here.

“What do you need, beautiful?”

“You were just gone when we got up and I wanted to see you.”

“Sorry, but we’re busy. Meet me for lunch?”

“Ya, sure.”

I walked her to the door and watched her leave. I could feel the disappointment coming from her. I felt bad but she couldn’t know yet.

“OK, how many more do we need to do?”

“I think we have five more, if we were going to a thousand-mile radius.”

We were busy marking our maps when my dad got up and went to the door. He opened it and an omega had a cart full of food for lunch. I was starving and we pushed some of the maps aside and put the food on the table. We ate while we continued to work.

“Dad, what about the blue lake pack? I know that has always been a touchy pack?”

“Go ahead and mark them as someone we can call.”

We were deep in discussion when someone knocked again, and the door opened. I rushed over, knowing that it was Sophia again. What did she need now? I stopped her at the door, not letting her get in too far.

“I thought you were meeting me for lunch?” she asked with a disappointed look on her face.

“Sorry, I forgot, but I will see you for dinner.” I told her as I pushed her towards the door and shut it in her face. I felt like an a*****e, but I know that it is for the best.

“Who was that son?”

“Sophia, I forgot to meet her for lunch, but told her I would see her for dinner.”

“She doesn’t know?” My dad asked.

“No, and I don’t want her too.”

“Son, you need to tell her. I thought you being better about that? She deserves to know that he is back to sending letters and watching her.” My dad said.

“She has too much stress right now. She is so stressed that she is getting sick I don’t want to add this to it.”

“Then at least keep your promises to her and meet her when you say you will.”

Nobody else said a word during or after our exchange. We all just went back to work.

We finally finished the maps around 6 pm. I sent everyone out for dinner and went to check my email. I was hoping that I would have one from my accountant. I didn’t but I got busy answering a bunch of other emails and before I knew it, it was dark outside and well past dinner. s**t, I missed Sophia again and I didn’t even see Lucy today. I closed my laptop and headed upstairs. When I got to our room all the lights were out except our bathroom. I went in there to see if Sophia was taking a shower, but she was curled up around the toilet. Crap, was she sick again?

“Jax, do you think she was sick again?”

“Ya I can smell the vomit in here.”

“What is going on with her?”

“I don’t know, she said it was just stress.”

“Maybe I will have my mom take Lucy tomorrow so Sophia can rest.”

I bent down and picked her up and put her in bed. She didn’t even wake up. I walked to Lucy’s room and checked on her. She had thoroughly destroyed her room again with toys and princess dresses everywhere, but she was sound asleep in her bed.

“Mom, you up?” I linked her.

“Yes, what’s going on?”

“Can you take Lucy all day tomorrow? You can drop her off at daycare but then pick her up?”

“Of course, is everything OK?”

“Sophia just hasn’t been feeling well and I wanted to give her a break.”

“Of course, I will be there around seven to get her.”

“Thanks Mom.”

I crawled into bed and pulled Sophia to me and Jax was right. She smelled like vomit. I pushed her down the bed a little so that her head was below me and the smell wasn’t as strong. I let sleep take over, until about four am when I woke up again and couldn’t go back to sleep. I went back to my office to start work.
