Sophia’s Revenge – Chapter 97

Kane’s POV

It’s nice to finally know my name and where I come from. I know that Konner was my brother. I could scent it. He never really said much, and I don’t know how to feel about that. This whole situation is weird. I really could go for a run. I just don’t know if they would let me. I know they don’t trust me right now. I was going to earn that trust, whatever they wanted. I handed my phone over to Xander when I came back to my room. He was pleased with that, but I was going to have to continue to talk to King Jag. If I didn’t contact him weekly, he would know something was up.

“Wolf, what are you thinking?”

“First of all, my name is River, stop calling me wolf!”

“Do you remember?”

“No, but that’s what they said my name was and I trust them. Something feels right here. This is our home; I can feel it.”

“OK, River!”

“We need to kill King Jag. He will hurt our Luna and our son.”

“I agree, but how?”

“I think we need to lure him here. Give him false information and be prepared to take him down.”

“That’s not a bad idea but remember he has witches working with him. I don’t know if this pack is strong enough to take on witches.”

“We need to tell the Alpha. I know one of their men here is a witch and besides the Luna is an emerald wolf. We don’t know what her powers are.”

I cut my link with River and laid down in bed. I knew that sleep wouldn’t come easy tonight. I had too much on my mind and so did River. I still can’t believe I had a son. He looked just like me and he shared my name. When they told me he had my name it made my heart soar. I was so happy. I don’t know if I wanted pups before, but this felt right. He was supposed to be here. I could finally feel my eyes getting heavy and closed them.

I was woken up the next morning by a banging on my door. I stumbled out of bed and opened it with a growl on my face.

“Get dressed, we’re going to train. You can help me with the young ones.” Konner said as he stormed out of the hallway.

I quickly got dressed and the guard walked me down to the training field. He wasn’t kidding when he said young ones. These kids were like ten. I can’t believe they train them this young. Seems a little overkill. I walked over to where Konner was standing.

“Hey, you train kids this young?”

“Ya, it’s all volunteer at this age and mandatory starting at 16. We mostly do this to help burn up their energy and then they are less likely to get into trouble. Besides, the kids that start at a young at tend to be the ones that turn into our best warriors.”

“I see. What exactly do we teach them?”

“We do some conditioning and the basics of sparing and hand-to-hand.”

“That’s a far cry from what I was expecting. So, I can scent you and I am guessing you are my brother?”

He just looked at me and walked off. Maybe we didn’t have a good relationship when everything happened. I followed him out and listened to him talk to the kids. They were all super excited about today.

“Alright kids, I want you all to meet or I am sure most know already, my brother Kane. He is going to start helping.”

All the kids cheered and waved at me. I just stood there stupidly and stared at all of them. I had no clue what to say. Konner cleared his throat and waved his hands to get the kids to calm down. After everyone settled down, he announced that warm-ups would start. All the kids took off while Konner watched. I felt bad that they were running by themselves, so I took off and started running with them.

After all the warmups were done and the stretching had been completed the kids all paired up and started sparring. I walked around giving some pointers when I came to a really tiny kid who was struggling with everything. She didn’t have a partner and was just doing the motions in the air.

I got down on my knees in front of her and held my hands up and let her hit them. She really was too small to be doing this, but I would never discourage someone from trying to better themselves, especially a kid.

“Hey sweetie, how long have you been doing this?”

“A week.” She didn’t look up at me while I talked to her. It made me a little upset. She should look at someone when they are talking with them.

“What are you wanting to learn in this class?” I asked her. I had a feeling there was something else going on here.

“Nothing.”

I didn’t press her anymore but brought her over to the other kids and got her set up in a group that was on the same level as her and I continued to walk around helping other kids. Once I finally met up with Konner, I had to ask him about that girl.

“Hey man, what is with that little, tiny girl over there? Something feels off about her.”

“I don’t know I have other s**t to worry about.”

“What the hell is your problem? Aren’t you the Beta?”

“No, a*****e that’s you or it was you.”

“I never said I wanted my old job back.”

“That’s not the problem, you can have it back when it’s time. It’s other things.”

“Mind sharing those with me?”

“Not right now.”

He then stormed off and went towards the pack house and I was left with these kids. I looked over at the guard who was watching me and mouthed “help me” to him. He finally got up and came over and suggested I play some games with the kids. He explained it as tag, and said it was a pointless game but did help with endurance, so we played.

Finally, the kids’ parents started showing up to pick up their kids and the little girl that I helped earlier had dropped her shoulders and hung her head as she was walking off the field by herself. I had to know what was going on with her, so I walked to my guard and explained what was going on and that I wanted to follow her. He shook his head and followed me.

We kept our distance, and I don’t think she saw us follow her. She walked until she was deep into the forest. She came to the littlest shack and went inside. Something defiantly wasn’t right. I know the Alpha wasn’t aware of this.

“Can you link the Alpha and let him know what is going on?”

“I already did, and he is coming out here now.”

We sat in silence as we watched this shack, and nobody came or went. I could hear more than one person in there. We could hear things being thrown around and a guy yelling but it didn’t sound like he was being violent. Finally, the Alpha showed up and I gave him a rundown of what I noticed about the girl at training and that I had a feeling about her.

“I have no clue who lives there. I wonder if it is a rouge family who found the place and the girl came into the pack. Nobody would question a girl. I have a few warriors on their way and then we will figure this out.”

“Wait, I shouldn’t be here. I need to go back to the pack house.”

“Why you found her, you should be here.”

“What if King Jag sent them? I wouldn’t put it past him.”

“If you are supposed to be gaining rank and he has a spy, let his spy see you working with me. Would he really send a kid with him?”

“Ya, nobody is off limits to him.”

The guards finally showed up and Alpha Xander went to the door and knocked. An angry drunk looking man threw the door open yelling “WHAT?”

You could see the anger instantly on Alpha Xander’s face. I didn’t know who this man was, but I couldn’t be for sure that he wasn’t with King Jag.

“Who are you and what are you doing on my pack lands?” Roared Xander.

“Sorry sir, we just needed a place to stay. We will leave.”

“Who is we?” asked Xander.

“My family.”

“Bring them here.”

He yelled. He was so drunk. I could smell it on him. It took a lot of booze for us to get drunk, so he either drank nonstop or consumed a lot in a short period. Pretty soon the little girl from today appeared and I am assuming what is his mate. A little tiny woman stepped out of a room. You could tell both of them were not taken care of. They were underweight and the wife looked abused.

Xander was pissed the moment the mate and kid stepped forward. He had to be thinking of Sophia. I know I was, and I don’t know what all happened to her, just that she was abused. He grabbed the slime ball by the neck and started yelling.

“What are you doing to these poor girls?”

“I am his mate, and this is our daughter,” The woman said looking at the floor.

He dragged the man outside and threw him to the guards and told them to take him to the cells.

“Please grab your belongings and come with me. You and your daughter are not in any trouble, we want to help you. I won’t allow this man to hurt either of you.”

The woman just grabbed her daughter and walked out of the house. I am guessing they don’t have anything. It broke my heart. I felt for this poor woman and her child. They looked terrified. The child was crying and clinging to her mother. The mother didn’t know what to do. I am guessing she moved from one abusive household to the next.

“Alpha Xander, I think we should take them to the hospital for a checkup and I think that Luna Sophia would actually be a great help.”

“I agree, I will mind link her and have her meet us there.”

As soon as we got the woman and her daughter to the hospital Sophia took over and took them back to see a doctor.

“Kane, I am going to talk with our drunk. Do you want to join me?” He asked.

“I don’t know if he would say anything with me there if he is a spy for King Jag.”

“OK, I will have to guard take you back to your room.”

“OK,” I really wanted to stay and see how the woman and girl were but I wasn’t in a position to ask that right now.

“Thank you for being extra diligent today. It was a nice save for those two.”
