Chapter 18: Her decision

Hannah knew that she did the right thing accepting that job, her mother's medical bills and medicine were on the line. she needed extra work so she could earn more money. It was just a translation work as she looked forward to it. "Trust me, Hannah you are not going to regret it"

"Yea, whatever"

Hannah was not interested in whatever he had to say, she only cared about doing the job and making it right, if it wasn't for the money, and the responsibility that she had, she wouldn't have bothered at all. She just needed the money, it was not guaranteed that she was ever going to get this opportunity ever again.

"You are going to do great, you just have to give it your best"

Hannah doesn't even bother to respond. She was certain that she was going to do it but doesn't want him licking off her butt as if they were friends, they were not, he was just her boss and she wanted nothing more to do with him. As Hannah savored her food, she didn't bother to look at him again or even to notice if he was staring at her, that would make her uncomfortable, and just hated it.

When she was done eating, Hannah had to return home, there was going to be a lot of preparation on her part if she really wanted to nail her first job as a translator.

It was the first day of Hannah's job as a translator, she had prepared for this so many times and gone through all her notes to make certain that she was not going to miss anything that the client might need. Her first translation job was in a school, she was supposed to translate a lot of things for a school and she did so well. She had passed the expectation of Mike. He was thrilled and excited that he had chosen her to do things job. There was no one else who would do any of the things that she used to do.

"You did great today" Mike rushed up to her after what she had done. She would not have expected that he would stay and wait for her when had nothing to do here and should have returned back to work. "Thank you, what are you doing here?"

"I came to congratulate you, I know that you will do better and to invite you to foist, let's celebrate your victory"

Hannah was not pleased with the invitation, the last time she had only accepted because he insisted that it was just for the company, but this time she had no reason to accept anything that he had to say. However, as she opened her mouth to say something, her mobile phone rang and she glanced at the screen, her heart jumped, and her fingers began to tremble. The Caller ID reads Hospital. She was scared that something might have happened, that was the only explanation as to why the hospital was going to call her.

Is it money? Was something wrong with her mother again? Has she gotten worse? Or has she recovered? The latter wouldn't be so possible since her mother was very ill. The last time that she had seen her, it didn't seem as though she was on the speed to recovery, it seemed as though she was slowly slipping away, Hannah did not want to accept that, she thought that money was the problem and if she could make so much money then she will be able to save her mother's life. That was another thing that made her take on this job and leave her hometown to come to Garden City.

"So what do you have to say, Hannah?"

She was pulled back into reality, she had forgotten that Mike was still there and they were at the entrance of the school. She needed to get far away from him and to go solve her problems back home.

"I don't think that is going to work out today" She turned around and picked up her Call, Walking away so that he would not get to ask her any other questions. "Hello"

"You have to come to the hospital now"

That was all Hannah needed to hear to jump into the next bus heading for her town to go and see her mother. She didn't know how long she was going to stay there, but knew that as soon as she was done with the doctors and had seen her mother she had to leave and return back home to Shawn.

Hannah was a very capable Woman and so when she arrived at the hospital, she sorted things with the doctor and once again visited her mother. However, she couldn't just stay back in town, she had to return back to the city that same night.

It was something else and far yet she had to do it, that was the only way she was going to keep her job at the Company. She had gone without permission and did not want this to start explaining to Mike about her mother's condition.

As the company celebrates its wins over the last five years, Mile threw another party for his teammates at the company.

He had his PR work with the organizing committee to make sure that everything was being put into place. They had taken care of the food, drink, gifts and decorated the hall.

Everyone was in awe and congratulated the boss for having to throw such a party when it wasn't even the end of the year, it made them imagine what they would be expecting for the end of the year's party.

The only one who was not really interested in the party and everything that they had to do was Hannah.

As she sat down on her seat nibbling on some cupcakes, she had not noticed that Mike had his eyes on her all along.

No one really had noticed anyone since everyone seemed to be having a good time at the party and trying the socialise with some of the guests that Mike had invited over. It was good PR.

When she puts the last piece into her mouth, Mike approaches her with a glass of wine and more food.

"Hello"

"Hey" That was awkward, as she turned her face to the other side, she couldn't help but roll her eyes. She wanted him gone by her side, she wanted him to disappear so she could get to think, at least.

"What are you doing here sitting all alone, it's a party, and you need to socialize and meet people, do you know that there are lots of dignitaries here, look at all your colleagues shooting their shots and you are just there as if you cannot meet few people. You are good at having a conversation and you are an excellent translator. You don't do anything"

"And so?" She arched up her brow at him wondering what point he wanted to make.

"Let's celebrate together" he handed over the drink to her. "You cannot refuse to be, it's our celebration from last as well, if you are going to say no, then you should not even bother. I am not going to take that answer"

Hannah knew that he wasn't going to give up and she could not keep pushing him away, she just had to take the drink and gulped it down. When Mile saw that she had gulped down the first drink, he applauded her and gave her another glance of wine, she drank. Mike went on and on.

However, while he was trying to get her drunk, G, who had been one of the invited guests had seen him, he was disturbed as he sensed what was running through his mind. He knew Mike was up to no good and could not just come out in front of Hannah's collegues and other guests to save her. But there was one person who could do it and so he took out his phone and called up Shawn.

"Hello Man"

"G, what's up?"

"You have to get over here at this party, there is someone who is bullying Hannah"

"Alright, I am coming over, keep an eye on her, alright?"

"You don't have to ask me twice, I will do that for you" He hung up and looked at Hannah only to see her still drinking, he watched her as she said something to Mike and tried to get up when he pushed her down to the seat. He squeezed her thigh and she pushed his hand away. However, Mike was not taking no for an answer and tried to kiss her. G was getting uncomfortable and took a step forward when he saw Mike suddenly pushed to the ground in front of everyone. When he looked up and saw Shawn, he calmed down, a smile danced on his lips, Mike was going to get a taste of his own medicine.

"Are you alright?"

She nodded and he glared at Mike. Shawn charged towards him and before anyone could fathom what was happening, he had already mounted on top of the jerk and began throwing hard punches at him. Mike coughed out blood, he couldn't even defend himself as Shawn beat him up right before everyone. Hannah was scared and was heading towards Shawn when he dragged Mike into the yet and beat him up even more making him wet his pants, it was humiliating for him but Hannah had to stop Shawn.

"The next time that you touch my woman, I will smash your face and break your neck," He said possessively when Hannah touched his shoulder calming hon down from doing any further damage. Mike has already learned his lesson the hard way. As Shawn Moved Hannah to a corner, he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and stared into her eyes.

"Do you want to quit? I want you to quit, you cannot work with this sort of jerk who has no respect for women" Shawn was the protective boyfriend, and that made Hannah smile. The way he had cared and come to her rescue just when she least expected it was something else. However, Shawn wanted her to quit and follow him to his own hometown. "Well I signed a contract but then it won't affect my work since I recorded everything that Mike said to me"

When the words left her mouth, Shawn smiled, he was very impressed. He couldn't be happier with her courage and willpower.

"Come on, let me take you home"
