Sweet Redemption: The Morningstar Series Book 3 -
Sweet Redemption Chapter 41
Here we all were, standing in front of the big cave, staring into it.
"Should we just run all the way to the back or should we try to teleport to it?" Acaisia asked.
"I don't think we should teleport just in case we need to get out of there fast." Ahkari answered. "Last time the things drew us in and then attacked when we got to the entrance. I don't think they wanted us to enter." She said. "So, you don't think the things will attack unless we get close to the barrier?" Simon asked her.
Ahkari shrugged.
"I don't really know. But. Acaisia and I talked last night. We are going to put a protection spell around us. I'll put one around Bianca and I and she will with her and Bou. Simon you'll be fine on your own right?" She asked him. He nodded in response.
"Alright." Acaisia turned to me.
She bit down on her wrist before turning it to me.
"Open up." She said as she shoved her bleeding wrist to my lips.
I grabbed her wrist, never taking my eyes off her, and licked all of her blood. Acaisia's eyes darkened and I could feel her lust.
I smirked.
"Don't smirk just yet mate." She said.
I wanted to ask her why, but then an intense pain shot through my head that brought me to my knees in front of her. I barely registered that she was speaking another language because of the pain. Then just as sudden as it came, it was gone. I looked up at my smiling mate.
"You could have warned him Acaisia." Ahkari scolded her twin.
"He likes pain." She stated as she turned around.
I got to my feet and walked up to her back.
"I'm gonna let that slide since you called me your mate." I told her with a kiss to her cheek.
I grabbed our bags. Both had the option to wear as a back pack so I slung one over each shoulder. We all stood in front of the cave again. Simon walked in front of us before turning his head. "Ready?" He asked.
All of us nodded. Then we walked in. The cave was completely dark. As a demon I was usually able to see in the dark. I remember the girls telling us that they couldn't see in here either.
A chill ran down my spine and I quickly reached down to grab Acaisia's hand. I needed to keep her close just in case. No way was I letting her die in front of me again.
Thankfully she didn't pull away from me either. Actually, she squeezed my hand in hers making warmth spread through me.
We all walked in silence, like we were waiting for something to pop out. After a while we saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Acaisia started walking faster, pulling me along.
Once we reached the barrier I could see our group clearly now. I had no time to look through the barrier before I was pushed through hard. So hard, that I f*****g fell.
Scrambling to my feet I whipped around.
Bianca and I were pushed through but only us. We looked at each other before peering back through the barrier. It was like looking through moving water. Completely different than looking from the other side. Bianca and I were trying to see what was going on on the other side. I was about to shove my way back through when my twin doubled over in pain.
"Bianca?" I asked as I went to her.
Her eyes snapped to the barrier.
"Ahkari's hurt." She gritted out.
I didn't think, just jumped to action. Sprinting through the barrier I saw my mate swinging a sword at a man made of leech things.
When the f**k did she get a sword?
Acaisia was standing protectively over Ahkari who was laying on the floor bleeding from her stomach. I quickly grabbed her and yanked her through the barrier.
Ahkari yelped in pain at the movement but I didn't have time to care. I shoved her towards her mate and jumped back through the barrier. Simon was now fighting alongside my mate.
Acaisia was holding her left shoulder as Simon threw balls of fire at the creature, er, creatures. I snaked my arm around Acaisia's middle and then grabbed a hold of Simons shirt and pulled. The three of us fell backwards through the barrier. I let go of Simon and moved Acaisia as we fell so that she would fall on top of me.
Once we were through we all stared at the barrier waiting for the things to come through, but they never did.
"We should keep moving just in case." Simon said.
I looked down at my mate who was clutching her still bleeding shoulder.
"Why aren't you healing?" My voice came out much harder than I intended it to.
"I don't know." She answered.
"Did one get inside of you?" I asked as I started inspecting her. "Are you hurt anywhere else?"
"No and no." She answered annoyed.
I lifted my arm from her waist, and placed it up to her mouth.
"Feed." I ordered.
Acaisia scoffed, and opened her mouth but my rage got the better of me.
"Feed!" I practically roared.
Acaisia grumbled under her breath, but bit into my arm. She fed from me for a few moments before releasing me. My little mate licked the wound closed, and pushed my arm away from her face.
I moved her long hair out of the way and watched as her wound closed quickly. I blew out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"Come on. Let's at least get to the castle." Simon told us.
I stood up with my arm still tightly around Acaisia. Looking at my twin I saw that Ahkari had just released her from her own feed. Thankfully her wounds had closed as well. Our mates were looking a mess but they were alright. Standing up completely I looked around. This place is beautiful. The sun was shining brightly in the sky. It's hot here, like summer. There's fields of flowers and large hills. A waterfall in the far corner and a castle in the other. This world is bright and breathtaking. The large black tree in front of us was a stark contrast to the rest of the world.
Simon had started walking towards the castle. My twin and her mate followed behind him. Acaisia started to walk with them and I was forced to either follow or let her go, and I was not letting her go. We walked a few minutes in silence before I couldn't take it anymore. "What happened?" I asked.
"We could sense them behind us and pushed you two through the barrier." Acaisia said and my grip on her hand tightened.
"We were just about to jump through with you when they attacked." Ahkari said.
"Least we know they hate fire." Simon commented.
I saw Acaisia look up at me from the corner of my eye but I ignored her.
"Thanks for pulling us out of there Bou." Ahkari said.
I only gave her a curt nod. I was too pissed off. They f*****g felt those things coming and ditched us. I don't f*****g care if they can survive or not. I should have been by her side to protect her.
We walked the rest of the way in silence. Acaisia kept glancing at me but I continued to ignore her. I knew she could tell I was angry.
Good. I hope she f*****g can.
Usually I was the lovey dovey one out of us. Until she had to go and do something stupid. What would have happened if I wouldn't have rushed back through? I didn't even want to think about it. Finally after walking for about 20 minutes we arrived at the castle. We all stood in front of the door inspecting it. It was small for a castle but still huge. I would be excited to go in it if I wasn't so f*****g angry. "Should we inspect the grounds before going in?" Bianca asked.
Ahkari shook her head.
"No, we would have sensed something by now. Nothing is here. No bugs, creautres, critters, nothing." She said.
I frowned.
"Is that normal?" I asked her.
Ahkari met my eyes.
"No it is not." She said.
"Well." Simon said. "Let's go in then, shall we?"
Simon pulled open the double doors to the castle, and we all walked in. I pulled Acaisia closer to my side and slightly behind me. She made a little scoffing sound but I ignored her.
The inside of the castle was not what any of us were expecting I don't think. We all expected it to look abandoned with the possiblity that there were still things of use to us in here. But no. This place looked like someone had been living in it. Beauituful lit candles hung all over lighting the entire place up. Which was good since there are no windows. White and black marbled floors that were polished to perfection. In front of us was a long hallway with tons and tons of closed doors. Simon started opening ones around us and peeking in. So far we found a ballroom that appeared empty for the most part. We also found what looked like a living room area, with couches, tables, a few small blankets and pillows. Eventually we found a master staircase. It swirled around like something from a story book. We all climbed the stairs together.
On the second floor we found more doors. It seemed everything on this floor were bedrooms. The stairs kept leading up but it seemed everyone was ready to settle down for the day.
"I'll go and explore more of the castle. Make sure no one is here. We should all keep rooms next to each other." Simon said as he threw his bag into a random room. "I'll take that one." He said with a smile and then headed for the stairs again. I turned to him and opened my mouth, ready to tell him to wait up. I'd rather go with Simon right now then be stuck with my mate. I'm still furious with her and I really didn't want to go through another round with her right now, when she tried to tell me we wouldn't be sharing a room. But, before I could say anything Acaisia squeezed my hand and then tugged on it.
I looked down to meet her deep blue eyes.
"Do you want to take this room?" She asked pointing to the room on the right of Simons.
My mouth hung open for a moment. She wants to stay with me? I almost forgot about my anger because of her little question.
Almost.
Instead of giving her a real answered I let go of her hand and opened the door to the room she had pointed at and walked in.
The room was larger than I was expecting. There were tapestries hanging on the walls, a very large bed in the far corner of the room, and a large fireplace on the opposite wall. The bed was covered in fur blankets and honestly it looked very inviting. I walked further into the room and set our bags down. Unzipping Acaisia's bag I pulled out a new T-shirt for her. Turning around I found her standing a few feet behind me playing with her hands. I closed the distance between us and handed her the shirt. "Thanks." She mumbled softly.
I didn't respond. Insteady I walked to the bed and sat down. Acaisia stripped out of her blood covered shirt and bra, I tried not to notice her perky breasts, instead zeroing in on where her woud was. I know that I watched it heal but I wanted to double check. After Acaisia put her other shirt on I stood up and walked to the door. My hand was on the knob when I heard her speak.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"To help Simon." Was all I said.
"Can I come with you?" She asked.
"No." My voice was stern as I ripped the door open.
I was about to walk out when her arms wrapped around my middle. Acaisia buried her face in my back, and squeezed me tightly. I just stood there frozen.
"Why are you mad at me?" Her voice was so soft that I barely heard it, but the sadness it held broke through my anger.
I placed my hand over hers but didn't turn around.
"You got hurt. I could have helped you." I gritted out.
"But you did help me." She argued.
My anger grew. I turned around in her arms and slammed the door shut. Acaisia let me go and was staring up at me and I glared down at her. My how the roles have been reversed.
"You f*****g pushed us through without warning! We had no idea what the f**k was going on! You should have let us help you!" I yelled at her.
Acaisia opened her mouth, but I didn't want to hear it.
"I don't give a single f**k if you are able to come back or not! It does not make seeing you hurt or in danger any f*****g easier! I told you just last night about my struggles with protecting my loved ones and you didn't f*****g care! Not when it mattered!" I was breathing heavy the more angry I got.
"I didn't do it on purpose. We were about to step through with you.. I didn't think I just acted. I just.. Got you to safety and I was about to join you.." She tried to defend herself.
"You should have told me that something was coming so I could have helped!" I practcally roared.
"You could have been hurt!" She yelled back. "I know it doesn't make it easier for you to see me hurt just because I don't stay dead but at least I come back! I will NEVER apologize for putting your safety before my own! You could have been killed!" Tears started to pool in her eyes.
"I would come back but you wouldn't! I would never be able to live without you you f*****g i***t! You can be angry at me all you f*****g want but I will not apologize, I will not feel guilty, and I will do it again if I have to." Tears were now flowing down her cheeks as she stared up at me angrily.
I just stood there watching her. What the f**k was I supposed to say to that? I know that I was unreasonably angry. Or maybe I wasn't.
Acaisia couldn't cry herself into getting her way but we could compromise. Not to mention that I absolutely hate seeing her cry. I reached out and grabbed her by the back of the head, and pulled her into me.
"I'm sorry for yelling at you baby." I said softly as I kissed her head.
"I'm sorry too. For yelling." She mumbled into my chest.
I held her for a few moments, waiting for her tears to die down. When they finally did a smirk formed on my lips. I didn't miss those key words in her little speech.
"Sooo. You can't live without me huh?" I asked making Acaisia slap my chest.
"Shut up." She said but her voice held no sterness like usual.
I was no longer angry with her. How could I be? She just admitted that she can't live without me.
"Don't worry baby. I can't live without you either."
