Chapter 362
"I'll tell you the details next time." Kevan keyed in the passcode of the apartment's door.
Hearing the beeps that signified the door opening, Dylan was shocked. "How do you know the passcode?"
"Ruby's living in my place." Kevan's expression remained unchanged, and his movements were natural. "It's more secluded here, so it's not that easy for Cody's people to get in here."
The picture-taking incident from before, after Kevan looked into it later, was done by people at Cody's behest. Getting Ruby to move over was a way to comfort her, and on the other hand, Kevan also did not want the same thing to happen again—in case his mother caught him and started raging at him again.
"How come I didn't know that you had a place here?" Dylan looked around curiously. Kevan had never brought him here before.
"Before moving to the floor above you, I bought a lot of properties," Kevan said mildly. That was when Microworks had yet to grow and develop, and his work focus remained on Soaring Corporation. That was the time period when the infighting amongst the Rogers was at its highest peak. His father had stepped down from his elevated position then, so the other two families set their sights on him. They used every tactic possible, going as far as to hire hitmen to kill him.
In order to live and protect himself, he bought several properties on different stretches of land. No one knew which home he would go back to every night. After Microworks surpassed Soaring Corporation, he finally had the money and capability to deal with his two uncles. Once they had quieted down, he and Dylan bought a place together and settled down completely.
Tsking, Dylan teased, "Are you bragging right now?"
Kevan eyed him from the corner of his eye and retorted, "Bragging about the fact that I have to change my home of residence every day because my two uncles are trying to kill me?" Dylan shut his mouth at once.
Kevan did not tell Ruby beforehand that he was coming. When he entered the apartment, he saw Ruby-who was unkempt, disheveled, and wearing a nightgown-lounging on the sofa, yawning widely withou any care for her image. When her gaze locked with Kevan's, her mouth was still open, and she could not close it due to her shock.
When she finally reacted, it was already half a minute later.
"Kevan? Why are you here?" She hurriedly got to her feet, anxiously tugging at the hem of her nightgown while deliberately turning away so he would not see her without makeup.
"The lawyer I've hired for you arrived in Bartham today, and I directly brought him over." Kevan calmly retrieved a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet as if he had not noticed her panic. Dylan revealed himself from behind him, having put away his casual attitude and displaying one of a professional lawyer.
"Hello, Ms. Cole." He dipped his head lightly with a smile.
Seeing a stranger, Ruby was even more panicked than ever. "Uh, hi! Hello!" She greeted Dylan with a forced smile on her face before spinning around to head back to the bedroom. "Let me get changed, please take a seat!"
The coffee table in the living room was filled with empty takeout boxes, and the trash can seemed to have some food waste in it. There was the smell of greasy food hanging in the air, causing Kevan to frown. Dylan snickered quietly with glee. "I guess you won't be able to live in this apartment even if you wanted to!" With how slovenly Ruby was, she was likely to fuck up Kevan's apartment so badly that it would be beyond repair. However, Kevan did not get mad as he anticipated.
"I've been planning to sell these properties anyway." It was just that he had a lot of other things going on that delayed this plan, so he had not been able to do so on time.
"Clear up this trash." Kevan indicated the takeout boxes as he gave Dylan the order, while he himself went over to open the balcony doors.
