Chapter 381
Ruby abruptly halted her actions and asked Larissa in a daze, "What do you mean?"
"He's severely injured and unconscious and requires someone to care for him around the clock." Larissa swiftly packed her belongings into her suitcase. "Initially, it was my responsibility to take care of him, but since you're here, I'll leave it to you."
Ruby appeared taken aback by Larissa's unexpected announcement. "Wait!" She hurriedly stopped Larissa. "What do you mean by 'unconscious'?"
"Exactly what it sounds like." Larissa attempted to push her away but hesitated due to her pregnancy. She took a step back and went around Ruby. "You need to remember to clean his body every day, shave his beard when it grows, wash his hair when it gets oily, change the urinary bag when it's full, and seek assistance from the nurses when the IV drip is finished. Figure out the rest on your own, and ask the nurses if you're unsure of anything. I'm leaving. Let's never see each other again." Larissa waved at Ruby.
Ruby's mind ceased to function properly. The lengthy list of tasks filled her with panic.
"But I'm pregnant!" she indignantly exclaimed. "How can you ask me to do all of this? What if something happens to the child? Will you take responsibility?"
"It's not my child, so why should I take responsibility?" Larissa coldly retorted. "You can choose whether to perform these tasks or not. As you mentioned, I have a contractual marriage with Kevan. Therefore, whatever happens to him is none of my concern."
"You!" Ruby was left speechless, trembling with anger.
However, Larissa disregarded her own concerns, forced a smile, and departed without looking back.
Dylan, who stood outside the door, intercepted her and asked with a hesitant voice, "Are you really leaving?"
"Yes," she replied and smiled. "I've taken care of him for so many days. I've fulfilled my duty."
He wanted to persuade her to stay, but he couldn't find the right words to convince her, given the current situation.
"I'll handle things here as soon as possible," he assured her. "Kevan can't manage without you."
She chuckled self-deprecatingly upon hearing that. "He doesn't need me; he needs Ruby. At best, I'm only a useful caregiver."
"That's not true ..." Dylan couldn't speak on behalf of Kevan due to his predicament, but his hesitation led Larissa to misunderstand.
"Goodbye!" She waved casually and walked away with her suitcase, passing through layers of bodyguards until she disappeared at the elevator entrance.
Dylan entered the hospital room with a stern expression. Ruby remained in the same spot, seemingly trying to process the words Larissa had just thrown at her.
"Is it true that Kevan won't wake up?" she asked, her eyes faintly hopeful.
He provided an ambiguous response. "It's possible."
A glimmer of joy flickered across her face, but when she caught Dylan's cold and stern gaze, she quickly lowered her head again. A few seconds later, as she raised her head once more, tears filled her eyes. "How could this happen?" she murmured. "I don't believe it. Something must have gone wrong somewhere. I'll go find the doctor and demand an explanation."
She was about to rush out, but Dylan grabbed her arm.
"No need to go," he said, "This has been confirmed. The answer won't change even if you ask the doctor a billion times."
"What should we do then? Are you suggesting that I just stand by and watch Kevan lying here without taking any action?" Ruby questioned, her emotions escalating.
Dylan smirked upon hearing that, his smile carrying a deeper meaning. "Well, besides consulting the doctor, there are many other things you can do. Like what Larissa suggested-wiping Kevan's body, shaving his beard, washing his hair, and changing the urinary bag."
Ruby's face instantly paled, devoid of any color.
