Chapter 564

Larissa had no energy to beat around the bush. She asked straightforwardly, "Was it Yvette?"

From Gary's reaction, it didn't seem to be the case. Gary hesitated for a moment and shook his head. "No, it's not her."

Needless to say, Larissa was a little surprised by his answer. Since she returned to Caldor, she had kept a low profile and tried to avoid any contact with her enemies in the past. It was only for Aster's sake that she revealed the past in an exposé out of anger recently.

"It's Lana." Before Larissa could probe further, Gary told her the answer.

Lana... Her guess wasn't too far off anyway.

Gary carefully observed Larissa's reaction. When he didn't see any signs of sadness or disappointment on her face, only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

"She has already been taken into custody by the police."

Gary didn't mention that it was largely thanks to Kevan. His men were in a hurry to send Larissa to the hospital, so they were unable to intercept the culprit. Fortunately, another car rushed out in time and smashed into Lana's car so that she could not escape.

Later, Gary heard that the men in that car were connected to Kevan.

However, the case wasn't progressing as smoothly as he had imagined.

Being caught on the spot for intentionally causing a car accident could be considered conclusive evidence. Considering Larissa's severe injuries, Lana should have been thrown into prison. Despite that, the Seymour family revealed Lana's medical diagnosis stating that she was suffering from severe mental illness and was unable to control her actions.

In other words, if the case was brought to court, there was a high chance that Lana would not be held accountable for the crime.

Gary had doubted the authenticity of the diagnosis and demanded that the police conduct a thorough investigation.

The officer in charge of the case had also promised him that they would get a professional evaluation of Lana's mental state. However, he warned Gary beforehand, "The results of the evaluation might disappoint you. Based on her behavior during the interrogation, it seems that she really is mentally ill."

Lana seemed deliriously ecstatic about her successful revenge. She ignored everything and everyone, not responding to any questions. She stared into space with lifeless eyes as she caressed her tummy, mumbling the same sentence repeatedly with a chilling smile, "My dear, I have finally avenged you!"

In her crazed state, it was unnerving for anyone who saw her.

Gary knew that Lana had a miscarriage before and that accident had made her unable to conceive permanently. However, he did not know that Larissa was involved in that incident.

Anyway, Gary wasn't going to tell Larissa why Lana had tried to run her over. After all, the outcome was final. What he could do now was to keep Larissa happy so that she would recover as soon as possible. "You don't have to worry about it, I will take care of everything for you. You just need to focus on your recovery."

Naturally, Larissa believed that Gary had the ability to settle this without much difficulty.

"When you can get out of bed and walk around, I will take you back to Aldovia. After you quit your current job, you and Lewis can take over my company." Holding her left hand gently, Gary furrowed his brows with worry as he inspected the abrasion wound on the back of her hand.

From the moment he found out that Larissa was his daughter, he made the decision to hand over the company to her.

It was only now that he had the courage to tell her.

He assumed that Larissa wouldn't accept his proposal so readily. After all, she had a bright future in her current career. In addition, they had just been reunited, so it was natural to be a little awkward around each other.

However, Larissa agreed without hesitation, "Alright."

"Don't be too quick to refuse ... What?" Gary continued persuading her as he didn't realize that she had agreed to his proposition.

Midway through his speech, he was stunned when her positive reply dawned on him.

His bewildered expression made Larissa chuckle, but the pain caused by the sudden movement in her chest made her wince.

After a long time, the pain finally subsided.

Larissa took a deep breath and said, "When I recover, I'll go back to Aldovia with you."
