Chapter 565
If Larissa had known that her transfer to Caldor would result in such setbacks, she would have never returned despite not getting promoted for the rest of her life. As the saying went, "Once bitten, twice shy."
Nonetheless, Larissa had been bitten many times, and yet she still hadn't learned to keep her distance from danger. She had to admire herself for her courage. But this time, she was truly afraid for her life.
If she were to continue staying in Caldor, it wouldn't be just a matter of losing an arm or a leg, even her life would be at risk.
"Great!" Gary smiled with joy, feeling incredibly relieved.
In just a few short hours, he had resolved the two biggest challenges he had ever faced in his life.
This made him happier than closing a deal worth billions of dollars.
Since Larissa was severely injured, she still felt weak and mentally exhausted although she had slept for a long time.
While chatting with Gary, she could not keep her heavy eyelids open and fell asleep, utterly exhausted.
When Larissa woke up again, she was greeted by doctors and nurses who took turns asking questions regarding her condition and more physical examinations.
Although her injuries were severe, she wasn't in any immediate danger and all her bodily functions were normal.
However, the doctors were still concerned.
Larissa's skull had suffered from a heavy blow when she fell. Fortunately, there was not much bleeding, but the doctors informed them that there might be internal injuries. These needed to be ruled out with further detailed investigations.
"During this period, you all need to pay close attention to her condition," the doctor instructed Gary and Lewis.
Then, he turned to Larissa. "If you feel any discomfort, even if it's just vertigo, you must inform me immediately."
Gary accompanied her in the ward the whole time.
Since his own health wasn't great, all of the errands and responsibility of their care fell to Lewis.
Even though they were now relatives, Larissa and Lewis didn't have a close relationship, so she was burdened with a sense of indebtedness to him. She also felt uncomfortable and guilty asking him to take care of her.
"How about hiring a caretaker?" she suggested finally.
On one hand, she didn't want them to be tired out from caring for her. On the other hand, it wasn't convenient for two grown men to be taking care of a woman like her.
Lewis seemed to have the same thought as well and immediately arranged for a caretaker for Larissa.
She was in her fifties and one of the more experienced caretakers in the hospital.
The caretaker was called Mrs. Griffin and she came from the countryside. Although she didn't talk much, she did her work efficiently and meticulously.
Larissa was pleased with her, but she could feel that Gary wasn't fond of Mrs. Griffin.
Each time Mrs. Griffin was around, Gary would have a sour expression on his face. Whenever she talked to him, he would put on an air of arrogance and treat her coldly.
Larissa asked Lewis discreetly, "Mr. Logan ... no, my father ... is he acquainted with Mrs. Griffin from before?"
This was the first time she had addressed Gary as her father. Her heart thumped loudly in her chest, making her cheeks flush crimson.
Larissa had concocted a whole story in her mind involving Gary and Mrs. Griffin in a romantic relationship, full of trials and tribulations that led to them meeting each other again. "No, they aren't acquainted." Lewis shook his head, denying her speculation.
"Then why does my dad act so coldly toward Mrs. Griffin?" Larissa was puzzled.
"Mr. Logan is always standoffish toward strangers. It was only because you saved his life that he treated you so well at first," Lewis explained.
When Larissa believed his words wholeheartedly, Lewis turned around and breathed a sigh of relief.
He couldn't tell Larissa that Gary was wary of Mrs. Griffin because of Kevan's involvement.
In actuality, Kevan was the one who had arranged for Mrs. Griffin to take care of Larissa.
