The Alpha Weredragon's Favorite -
CHAPTER 108 - The White Wolf
Lyra
The clearing was crowded with spectators, all murmuring and whispering. If I were in my human form, the hair on the back of my neck would stand up with all of the nervous energy.
I knew what was about to happen. Things were about to get ugly.
And fast.
But what could I do to stop it?
Especially when Brittany, the big brown wolf, stepped forward confidently.
"Let's settle this once and for all, Lyra," she growled, in a mind-link, her amber eyes locked onto mine. "White Wolf or not, you are no better than me."
I squared my shoulders. "Have it your way, Brittany," I barked back. "I don't want to hurt you, but if I must, I will."
The crowd hushed as we circled each other, our growls echoing through the forest. Brittany lunged first, her powerful jaws snapping at my neck. I managed to dodge, but her teeth grazed my shoulder, leaving behind a deep gash. I yelped in pain and anger, and surprise. How did that happen when even as a human, I had beaten two she-wolves in the dirt. I couldn't think about that at the moments as Brittany continued to circle me, looking for an opening. Brittany lunged again, and this time I was able to meet her head-on. Our jaws locked in a fierce battle, snarls and growls filling the air. We rolled on the ground, each trying to gain the upper hand. But just as I managed to pin Brittany down, she kicked out with her hind legs, catching me off guard and sending me flying.
I landed hard on my side, the wind knocked out of me. Brittany took advantage of my momentary weakness and pounced on me, her jaws closing in on my neck.
I struggled under Brittany's weight, my legs kicking out in a desperate attempt to free myself. But she was too strong and determined, her teeth sinking into my fur and drawing blood. I let out a loud yelp and pushed against her with all my might, managing to break free for a moment.
But before I could gain my footing, Brittany was on me again, her teeth clamping down on my leg. I howled in pain, feeling the sharpness of her teeth piercing through my skin. The crowd around us let out gasps and cries, some even turning away at the sight of our brutal fight.
'Something is not right,' The White Wolf said in my mind. 'My energy... my strength... it is only a quarter of what it should be and fading fast...'
What was happening to her... to us... I couldn't focus on it. It was all I could do to deflect Brittany's vicious attacks. With a burst of adrenaline, I twisted my body and managed to escape her hold once again.
This time, it was my turn to attack. I lunged at Brittany with all the force I had left in me, aiming for her neck. Our bodies collided with such intensity that we both went tumbling to the ground. We rolled around each other, biting and clawing ferociously.
I could feel blood dripping from various wounds on my body, but it only fueled me further. Brittany was not going to win this fight. Not if I had anything to say about it.
But just as I thought victory was within reach, Brittany surprised me yet again with a swift kick that sent me flying through the air once more. This time, however, I landed on a nearby rock with a loud thud.
My vision blurred as pain shot through my body from the impact. For a moment, everything seemed to slow down as I struggled to catch my breath and regain focus. But then everything came back into sharp clarity when Brittany charged towards me once more.
I knew this would be our final clash - one of us would emerge victorious while the other would be left defeated and bruised. With every ounce of strength I had, I pushed myself off the rock and braced for impact, meeting Brittany head-on as we clashed in mid-air. Our jaws locked once again, but this time I could feel the difference in our strength. It was almost as if a switch had been flipped inside me, giving me an extra burst of power.
I looked down. I was standing on the necklace Killian had given me. Like my clothes, it must have broken when I shifted. That meant dark magic was at work. Someone was using it to take me down.
I had to end this fight fast.
Using my burst of newfound energy to my advantage, I managed to pin Brittany to the ground. She struggled under me, but I held firm, determined not to let her escape.
For what seemed like hours, we battled on the ground, both refusing to back down. The sun was setting by now, casting an orange glow over us as we continued our fight.
But finally, after what felt like an eternity, I managed to deliver a decisive blow. With all my might, I bit down on Brittany's neck and held on tight. She let out a loud cry of defeat and submission before her body went limp under me.
I released my hold and stepped back, panting heavily from the intensity of the fight. Around us, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause - some even coming forward to congratulate me on my victory.
But I didn't care about their praise or adoration. All that mattered was that I had proven myself - not just to them, but to myself as well.
I shifted and staggered on my feet as Brittany stood up weakly and limped away with her head hung low in defeat.
No longer would I be underestimated or overlooked because of my in ability to shift. I had shown everyone that I was just as fierce and capable as any other wolf out there.
As Ryan rushed toward me, with what could only be love shinning in his eyes, I let out a decidedly wolfy-human howl filled with pride at my victory - a howl that echoed throughout the forest and signaled my status as the next... the one and only Luna to the Moonshadow pack.
