Chapter 28: News Leon and Jee are dating

Early in the morning, as soon as Jee arrived at the office, she was summoned to the director's office. She had no idea what the matter could be; the director seldom called her in, but when he did, it was usually significant. "Come in. Why are you standing outside?"

Jee pushed open the door and saw the director leaning on his desk in deep thought. He stood up and handed her his phone.

"Take a look at this. Since when have you been dating him?" Jee was stunned. She didn't understand how things had come to this. On the phone was a video showing her and a man from the night before getting cozy, with the caption: "Actress Jee dating LT Cosmetics CEO: A romance between a damsel and a magnate."

Before Jee could respond, the director gleefully hugged her and praised her.

"You've done brilliantly; you've melted his icy heart. I had no idea you had this talent. You have truly not disappointed me."

He then told her about the man's status and influence in high society-details she had never considered.

"He's known as a demanding businessman who has never been embroiled in romantic scandals. Even more peculiar, he's never been married. There were rumors he was gay, but I know that's not true. The truth is he's dating you." "Director, haven't you always told me an actress's career is short-lived, and having a boyfriend can decrease my fanbase, so I absolutely mustn't date?"

The director pulled Jee to sit down on a small chair and gently explained.

"Every rule has its exceptions, depending on who you are dating. This is Leon, that Leon."

"And what about Leon?"

"He's a billionaire. His word can make you a star overnight. With him backing you, who would dare stand in our way? It looks like the company's future depends on you."

"I don't know why you would think that, but what happened between him and me was just a misunderstanding."

The director, frustrated by her stubbornness, had to persuade her persistently.

"There's clear video evidence of you two being intimate. The whole world has seen it; neither you nor he can deny it."

"But I..."

"No more talking. From now on, quietly date him until it goes public, and then you'll be the woman owner of LT company. Remember not to forget how I've helped you."

Jee was genuinely anxious about this. She had always strived to maintain her integrity; she feared this scandal would lead to disdain, contempt, and ridicule from the public. She knew her profession was fraught with gossip, but she felt she had no choice.

She wondered whether she should hold a press conference to clarify things so he would understand her.

While she was hesitating, the director suddenly received a phone call.

"Hello! What? Oh?..." The director turned to look at her with joy, so overwhelmed he was almost lost for words.

"Quick, we can't miss this opportunity." He grabbed Phong Trà's hand and spoke as they walked.

"What opportunity?"

"A famous director wants to meet us. He said you are perfect for the lead role in his new movie. He wants to work with us."

The director, still smiling, suddenly paused.

"Jee, could your boyfriend have spoken to the director? He was such a decisive man, spotted dating at night and by morning making moves to stake his claim. Decisive men are the best choice for women." "Director, I don't know what you're talking about."

"Having a strong backer is good. Don't worry about the world's gossip."

That evening, after returning home, Jee couldn't sleep. She was troubled, wondering why the news had spread, why the director wanted to collaborate with her, and whether what the director had said was true. After much contemplation, she decided to probe Leon. She couldn't be sure, but perhaps she might gather some information from him.

Picking up her phone and setting it down again, Jee typed out a message only to delete it. After all, she had met him only once; a sudden message might make him wary.

Her phone signaled a new message, and Jee was surprised to see that the avatar belonged to the man from last night.

"Still up so late? Your account was active, so I thought I'd message."

Jee thought perhaps he couldn't sleep either.

"I usually stay up late."

The reply came quickly.

"There's something I need to discuss with you. I'm waiting downstairs."

Jee was taken aback. Why was this man so eager? Did he have an ulterior motive? Yet, she felt it necessary to clarify things between them to avoid prolonged entanglements.

Her apartment was in a high-security luxury building with three levels of checks, but somehow, he managed to come and go quickly. As she stepped into the car, Jee cautiously asked. "Aren't you afraid the press might twist things again by coming here so late at night?"

Leon teased with a smile.

"Now that everyone knows we're dating, what else can they say?"

Jee firmly countered.

"That's just a misunderstanding. You know there's nothing romantic between us; it was our first meeting."

"So, we weren't in love before, but what if we start now? Wouldn't that be good for you?"

"I'm not that kind of person."

"What kind of person?"

Jee hesitated.

"The kind who... trades their self for money and fame."

Leon smirked, his gaze sweeping over her as he replied leisurely.

"Would being with me be such a disadvantage for you?"

"I don't want that."

Leon raised his eyebrows, evidently unconvinced.

"An 18-floor building in the city center, ten duty-free shops at the international airport, and lifetime expenses covered for accommodation, shopping, education, beauty and health care." "You're crazy."
