Before Brittany could figure things out, there was a knock on her office door.
It was Holden.
"What brings you here, bro?"
"Bri." Holden looked worn out from days without proper rest. "I came to ask for your help..."
"If it's about Saskia, then I think there's nothing to talk about."
Brittany saw right through Holden's visit and knew it was about Saskia, which made her displeased. "Bro, I was in the police station for seventy-two hours without a bite or a sip. During those seventy-two hours, do you think Saskia was worried about me, or was she worried about her plans falling apart and getting a slap on the wrist?"
With just one sentence, Brittany left Holden speechless.
After a long pause, Holden said in a deep voice, "Bri, I was wrong today. I'm sorry. I won't say things like that again."
"Even though I'm not your biological sister, I don't expect you to take sides. But you should know, not everyone should revolve around Saskia."
After Holden left, Brittany dove into her work.
Learning from past experiences, Brittany became even more cautious, having each document thoroughly checked by a professional.
At six in the evening, Brittany had a business dinner to attend. She headed to the agreed-upon restaurant with her assistant in tow.
The restaurant was bustling, and their private dining room was packed. Seeing Brittany arrive, the man leading the group stood up, "Mr. Lynette." Brittany approached, "Jared, long time no see."
Jared laughed heartily, "Mr. Lynette, please, have a seat."
Jared and Brittany had a long history of working together, and he had always looked after her.
Once seated, Jared gave a sly smile, "Mr. Lynette, are you free tonight? I've found a great spot. How about we head there to unwind after dinner?"
The kind of "unwinding" he referred to was clear to Brittany without having to guess. She simply smiled, not refusing.
Jared quickly made arrangements, "Mr. Lynette, you're going to have a great time tonight. It's a really clean place." Brittany remained silent.
After dinner, Jared and his group almost dragged Brittany to a newly opened high-end club. Knowing Brittany's dislike for such places, Jared had specially chosen the best private room. Still, he arranged for a few women and young men to keep them company. The young men were fashionable and good-looking, but Brittany showed no interest. Seeing her indifference, Jared didn't press the matter.
Suddenly, the noise from outside the door caught their attention. Jared quickly stood up, opened the door, and upon seeing the newcomer, his expression turned strange, "Isn't that one of Elijah's people?"
"Seems like it. They call him Caspian. Ever since he joined Elijah, Elijah's small business has expanded five or six times in just a few months, gaining a lot of momentum."
"How come I've never heard of Caspian before?"
"Nobody knows where he came from."
"Speaking of which, Caspian does have a handsome look. Wonder if he's married?"
"Not sure."
Brittany hadn't expected to encounter Caspian here. Wasn't he already married? Why was he still appearing in such places? Thinking back on her previous fond feelings for him, and that dream, Brittany felt as if she had been slapped across the face. She excused herself to the restroom. The club was filled with the scent of perfume, making her head spin. The restroom was crowded. Brittany leaned against the sink, overhearing a young girl touching up her makeup and gossiping, "Did you see that big shot just now? He's really generous." "Who?"
"Who else but Caspian!"
The woman laughed meaningfully, "I just poured him a drink, and he gave me two thousand."
But the catch was that the drink ended up all over her. Pretending to be a gentleman, but he's here in this place. Getting into bed is no issue, let alone a drink.
"I heard Caspian and Elijah are tight!"
"The Ulbricht family was down and out, but now they're on the rise again. It's just a question of whether they can return to their former glory."
"I think it's going to be tough, given the people the Ulbricht family has crossed."
"Enough, we shouldn't be discussing this. Keep it shut."
"Got it."
As those people left, the whispers about Elijah and Caspian echoed in Brittany's ears.
