The two of them were as thick as thieves, an unbreakable duo.
When Brittany returned to the private room, the atmosphere felt noticeably off. Somehow, the group had grown in size. Elijah was seated at the head of the table, with Jared beside him, his smile respectful but overly eager, hinting at an underlying desire to please. Another figure lurked in the shadows, his face half-lit by the dim lighting, creating a mysterious aura that made it impossible to guess his thoughts.
"Mr. Lynette."
Upon Brittany's return, Jared immediately stood up, "Let me introduce you, Elijah, Mr. Ulbricht."
Brittany exchanged greetings with Elijah and took her seat at a leisurely pace.
"Mr. Ulbricht just got back to Craneville and might not be familiar with Mr. Lynette," Jared explained eagerly. "Mr. Lynette is his only daughter and sole heir."
Elijah had previously crossed paths with Brittany, but that was when he was known as Hugh. Now, Elijah had undergone a complete transformation.
"Ms. Lynette, I've heard so much about you. Looking forward to learning more."
Brittany bore no ill will towards Elijah, seeing him as nothing more than a stranger. Elijah and Brittany exchanged a few words, while Caspian remained silent throughout.
Suddenly, a bold young man approached, offering Brittany a glass of wine, "Ms. Lynette, care for a drink?"
Brittany disliked people invading her personal space and pushed him away forcefully: "Don't touch me!"
The glass shattered. The young man turned pale with fear.
Jared immediately scolded loudly, "Get out. How dare you come so close?"
The young man, trembling, apologized and hurried away. Brittany, annoyed, grabbed a napkin to wipe her hands, "Jared, it's getting late. I should be going."
Jared, fearing he had truly offended Brittany, didn't protest. After Brittany left, Jared called over the club's manager, "That young man from earlier, teach him a lesson. We can't have just anyone approaching her." Brittany stepped out of the room, trying to escape the club's overpowering scent, and made her way out swiftly. She hadn't gotten far when...
"Ms. Lynette."
Isaac caught up with her, his face seemingly masked by the night's shadows.
"Caspian, what is it?"
Detecting her displeasure, Caspian moved closer, "What's wrong, Ms. Lynette? You seem to have a problem with me?"
He had put so much effort into clearing her name, yet here she was, not appreciating his efforts and instead spending her time with Jared at such places.
Brittany instinctively stepped back, "Isn't Caspian married? What would Mrs. Lin think about you being here?"
Isaac, sensing a hint of jealousy, exaggeratedly sniffed the air, "Ms. Lynette, do you smell that?"
Brittany remained silent, her face stern. He leaned in closer, a smile playing on his lips, "Jealousy."
"You always remind me about my marriage."
"Does that mean, Ms. Lynette, that you're bothered by it?"
Brittany's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, she pushed against his chest, "Caspian, don't push me too far..."
Before she knew of his marital status, she was unaware. Once she knew, she had always tried to keep her distance. But Caspian seemed addicted to teasing her, constantly appearing before her! Caspian caught her hand and pulled her into his car in one swift motion.
"Get out."
He directed this at Nathan, who was in the driver's seat. Nathan immediately put on a mask, exited the car, and vanished into the night after closing the door behind him. Brittany tried to push the man away, but the heat from his body was scorching!
"Let go-"
"Stay still."
Isaac gripped her fingers gently and leaned in, his breath quivering as he whispered near her neck, "Had a few drinks tonight, help me sober up."
