The Blood Moon Twins
Chapter 106

REMY

I yelped, desperate as I felt myself losing the fight. The vampires were weak, but there were too many of them for me to handle by myself. Caulder was trying to fight his way to me, but the vampires were overwhelming him, too, and stopping him from reaching me. I dug my teeth into the vampires, but I couldn't get them off of me, because when I went after one, another one was on me in an instant. They were pinning me to the ground, and it reached a point where I could hardly move. "This would be easier if you just came with us quietly," the blond vampire snarled in my ear.

Never. I would never willingly go with them, especially knowing these vampires likely worked for Draven. I could never just give up.

I looked around, desperate to see Blade. The car crash had happened too fast, and I didn't know what happened to him. I tried to shift him out of the car, but when I appeared on the road, he wasn't with me. Before I had a chance to get to him, the vampires had already surrounded me. I hoped he was okay, but I was terrified he was trapped in the car that had been crunched from the impact and rolling from the crash.

I continued fighting against the vampires, desperate to break free, but I could hardly move.

As I struggled, I saw one of the vampires pull out a needle filled with some sort of yellowish liquid. My heart raced, and I knew whatever that substance was, I couldn't let them get close to me with it. I was sure it was wolfsbane or some sedative that would make it even harder to fight back.

The vampire stepped towards me, flicking the syringe with an evil grin. I thrashed even harder, pushing some of the vampires away. It wasn't enough to break free, though, and the vampire knew it from the glint in his eyes. He pushed the needle towards me, and I let out a snarl as my last ditch effort, but that wasn't enough.

Another growl echoed around me, but this one was more intense. It shook me to the core, and I knew it was the howl of an alpha. Even the vampires around me were terrified just at the sound, and I knew they should be. If my dad was on the battlefield, these vampires would be ripped to shreds in seconds.

A white wolf flew through the air, tackling two of the vampires off of me. This gave me enough freedom to wiggle out of the grasps of the rest of the vampires. I didn't see what was going on with the fight with my dad, but I heard sickening crunches and knew he was taking care of the vampires he tackled away from me.

Now that I had the opportunity, I bit into the shoulder of the closest vampire and ripped a chunk out of her body. She screamed, grabbing her arm that was now pouring blood, and I knew it was over for her. I went in for another attack, and quickly bit her throat, but not before she slashed my sides, putting several gashes near my ribs. It wasn't enough to stop me, and I tore her head clean off.

The blond vampire turned back to me, still holding the needle in his hand. He looked desperate and wild as he realized he was suddenly losing the battle. He lunged towards me at a speed I wasn't expecting. I felt the prick of the needle sink into my arm, and then my body quickly shifted out of its wolf form. I collapsed to the ground, feeling weaker than normal.

The vampire grabbed my arm and started to drag me away. I pulled against him, but I felt dizzy and could barely stand up straight. There was no way I was getting out of this on my own.

"Caulder," I tried to shout, but even my voice felt weak. I tried to link him, but all of my wolf senses seemed to be turned off. I was sure that the syringe had been filled with wolfsbane. These vampires were prepared to kidnap me. They somehow knew where we would be coming from and were ready to take me down.

I pulled against the vampire's grip again, refusing to give up, but I had barely any strength, and I knew I wouldn't escape that way. Magic was my only hope, and I wasn't sure if that would also be affected by the wolfsbane, too. I took a deep breath and did what I could to focus on my magic. I could feel it buzzing, so I knew it was there, but I needed to focus to actually do something with it.

With a lot of concentration, I was able to get my hands to start glowing, but I needed to push it a step further. I just need to shift out of the grasp of the vampire. I took another deep breath, but before I could do anything, the grip on my hand released, and I fell forward.

When I looked up, Blade was standing behind the vampire with his hand through the vampire's chest. Blade's eyes were dark, and his face was covered in blood. I was pretty sure most of the blood on his face was his own, but he didn't seem phased. The blond vampire gasped and tried to grab Blade's hand, but Blade pulled his hand back, dropping the man to the ground. Before the vampire could do anything, Blade grabbed the man's head and twisted it off, separating it from the vampire's body.

Once the vampire was taken care of, Blade scooped me up and held me bridal style. His chest was heaving up and down, and I could tell his anger went to a completely different level. He clung onto me, and dead bodies of vampires surrounded us. I couldn't break my gaze away from Blade, though. His eyes seemed far away, and I couldn't tell what was going on in his head.

I reached up and touched his forehead. "You're bleeding."

"I'm fine." His voice was cold, and it didn't seem like the Blade I was used to. He wasn't looking at me. Instead, he was scanning our surroundings, trying to access everything that had just happened.

"We need to stop the bleeding. Do you have any other injuries?" I didn't know if Blade's forehead was bleeding from the car crash, or if it was from a vampire attacking him, but the blood kept pouring out, and it made me worry even more.

"I'm fine," he repeated, as if he was a robot.

I grabbed his face and forced him to look at me. "What happened? Where did you go? I tried to get you out of the car, but you weren't next to me."

Blade's gaze softened as he stared into my eyes. Slowly, he came back to me. "I don't know what happened exactly. One second, everything was fine, and the next thing I knew, the car was rolling. I was trapped inside, and I think I hit my head. The metal was so contorted, I couldn't find a way out for a few minutes. I heard you screaming, and I couldn't help you. They tried to take you, and I was almost too late."

"But you weren't. I'm okay, and you're okay. We're okay, but we need to stop your bleeding and check on the others." I felt better as Blade's normal expression returned. It was like the man I was used to had been replaced with an angry body double for a moment, and that scared me. Even though he had been standing in front of me, it felt like he was nowhere near me, and I had a feeling that if I hadn't gotten him to calm down, I would have lost him.

"Okay," Blade agreed.

"You can set me down," I said. I still felt a little weak and dizzy, but I was sure I could walk if I moved slowly enough.

"I'm not letting go of you," Blade insisted. He started walking over to the others.

The rest of the vampires were already dead or had decided the fight wasn't worth it and ran away. My dad and Caulder had shifted back into their human forms. Caulder moved towards me, panic still filling his face. "Are you hurt? I'm sorry I couldn't get to you. There were too many of them," he said, looking me over.

"I think they injected me with wolfsbane, but I'm okay. I'm more worried about Blade's injury. And where is everyone else?" I hadn't seen my mom or Harper, so I didn't know if they had been injured or if they were okay. "Harper's with Mom. I don't know what's going on with her. I didn't have a chance to check on her before the ambush, but I think she's injured." Caulder's breath was shallow, and his worry told me more than enough. "Take me to her now," I ordered. I would have run over to her on my own if Blade wasn't holding me, or at least I would have tried. I wasn't sure how fast I could move with the wolfsbane in my system.

The three of us rushed over to Harper and my mom. My dad was already there, and he was holding my mom in his arms. Her eyes were closed, but she was clearly bleeding.

"Set me down," I asked Blade.

He nodded and slowly lowered me, making a point to keep a hand on my back. I knelt next to my mom and looked at my dad. "What happened?"

My dad's face was cold, and he wasn't showing any emotions, but I could feel his stress. "It all happened too fast. The vampire was standing in front of the car, and I couldn't avoid him. We weren't prepared, and we couldn't get out of the car fast enough. Your mom hit her head on the dashboard as the car tumbled around. She touched my arm, and then we were suddenly out of the car. She lost consciousness soon after." "She's been going in and out of consciousness," Harper said. "We need to get help as soon as possible."

"I can try to heal her," I offered. I had only healed Caulder by accident, but I knew it was something my magic was capable of. I just needed to heal her enough to make sure she was okay.

I placed my hands on her head where it looked like she hit her head. I tried to concentrate on healing her, but my head felt clouded. I knew my magic was there, but the wolfsbane made my head cloudy. It wasn't working.

My dad placed a hand on my shoulder. "It's okay. Don't push yourself. We are close to the pack house. Does anyone have a cell phone to call for help? I lost mine in the crash."

"I still have mine," Harper said. "I'll call my dad now."
