The Blood Moon Twins
Chapter 107

JULIE

I stormed into Draven's hideout the moment I had a chance to sneak away. It was easier than normal, since everyone was goo-goo eyed for Caulder. No one paid me a second glance, and no one would notice if I wasn't around-not that people noticed my presence very often anymore. Everything was always about the alpha, luna, and their children. Oh, and of course, stupid Harper, too.

I didn't understand why they thought that little family was so special. They didn't deserve all of the attention they were getting, and I was sick of everyone ignoring me. I deserved to be loved and worshiped.

I tried to rush into Draven's room to demand what had happened to the plan, but the woman with pale blonde hair held her hand out and stopped me in my tracks. I hadn't bothered to learn her name, because she wasn't important.

"I need to see Draven," I demanded. I tried to push past her, but she kept her arm strong.

"Who do you think you are demanding to see our leader like you're actually someone important?" she said. "You better learn your place fast, pup, or I'll put you in it."

She bared her teeth at me, but I didn't flinch at her threat. Draven had told the vampires they were not to harm me. I had valuable information for him, and I had to be protected. Draven seemed to be the only one who truly understood my importance.

I poked the woman's chest. "You better let me in to see Draven. I have essential information for him, and you're wasting both of our time."

She grabbed my arm and twisted it away from her. I yelped from the sudden pain, but she didn't seem to care. "I warned you, you little brat!"

"Val, let her go," Draven said, appearing at the door.

"But-" Val began.

"Now." Draven's voice was harsh and final, and Val instantly let go of me.

I smirked at the woman, satisfied that I was right. Her face soured as she looked at me. She glanced at Draven, but his face didn't waver. When she realized she had lost, she turned on her heels and stormed away. "One day, your blood is mine," she muttered under her breath.

I turned back to Draven with a satisfied smile. He truly treasured me like I deserved. I couldn't believe how obsessed I had been with a child like Caulder, when there was someone like this in the world.

"Come inside," Draven said, holding the door open. He gestured for me to enter the room first.

I moved inside, and the room was dimly lit. It was nicely furnished, and for a makeshift base, I was impressed with how nice his room was. He even had a soft bed in the corner.

"I wasn't expecting you so early tonight," Draven said, shutting the door behind him. He made a point to lock it. Clearly, he wanted to guarantee our privacy.

"They came back today," I said, frowning at the thought of seeing Harper's awful face in the kitchen. "All of them. I thought you were supposed to take care of them on their way in. What happened? Harper is still alive and kicking."

Draven stepped towards me, leaving little space between the two of us. My heart fluttered at his closeness. I wanted him to touch me, to kiss me, but he had yet to close the space between us, even with all of my visits.

"We tried. My vampires were there, ready to attack, ready to take Remy and kill the rest, but you didn't tell us her brother was with them. They weren't ready for him, and most of my people died. Not having that information made it a failure, and I don't like failing." Draven's voice was harsher than usual, and it made my heart start to race. Normally, I liked being around Draven. He gave me attention and smiled at me, but right now, I was a little scared.

"I-I didn't know. He wasn't supposed to be with them. He's been gone for a while, and I don't know why he was with them." I looked down at the ground. I felt like it was my fault things didn't work out, and I hated disappointing Draven.

He grabbed my chin and made me look at him. His touch made my heart flutter, and I never wanted him to let go, even though it hurt a little.

"Darling, I need you to be more thorough with your information, or this isn't going to work. I need you to help me, so I can help you," Draven said, lowering his voice an octave. He leaned forward, and his lips brushed against my ear, making my stomach do a flip. "It's going to be so much harder to get what we want now, so I need you to be a good girl. We are going to have to get them away from the pack if you want me to kill that girl for you."

"How am I supposed to do that?" I wanted to do anything and everything for this man. My heart ached for him, and I wanted him to treasure me, see me for the special person I was. If it meant giving Remy up to him, then I would do it. Draven let go of my chin and stepped away from me, making me feel empty inside.

"Figure it out. I trust you won't disappoint me," he said.

He felt so distant suddenly, and it made my chest ache. I just wanted him to hold me and touch me the way a mate would. I didn't understand why he wasn't all over me. Did he not feel the bond like I did?

I found myself stepping forward and wrapping my arms around his waist. "I will figure it out. I promise. I'll do whatever it takes."

Draven turned in my arms, looking down at me with dark eyes. "That's what I like to hear."

REMY

I felt a presence next to me, which stirred me awake. I hadn't even realized I had fallen asleep. When I turned on my side, I saw Blade's golden eyes looking down at me. I started to sit up immediately, but he gently touched my shoulder. "Go back to bed. It's okay," he whispered, sitting next to me.

My heart raced at seeing him, and even though I was sleepy, I didn't want to go back to bed. Not yet at least. "Are you okay? What's happening?"

"Shh," Blade said in a soothing voice. "It's okay. Everyone is fine. Just go back to bed. I didn't mean to wake you up."

I couldn't just close my eyes and go back to bed. I sat up to get a better look at him, despite Blade's protests. He had a row of stitches on his forehead. I reached forward and touched below the stitches, a frown touching my lips. "Are you sure you're okay?" I asked.

Blade took my hand and kissed the back of it. "I promise I'm fine. It's just a small cut. It'll be gone by tomorrow. I'm more worried about you with those drugs in your system." He pulled me into his lap and wrapped his arms around my waist. "I'm okay. There's no need to worry." My eyes fluttered shut now that I was in Blade's arms. He was cool to the touch, but he still warmed my body and my heart. I felt safest with him by my side.

He ran his fingers through my hair, and it was becoming a fight to stay awake. "There's plenty of reason to worry. He targeted you today. It was like Draven knew where and when we would be coming back to the pack. If it wasn't for Caulder, we could have easily been overwhelmed by vampires today."

I cracked my eyes open and looked up at him. The room was dark, but the moonlight was shining through my window, making Blade practically glow. He looked handsome, and my heart fluttered at the sight of him. I wondered if I would ever get tired of his face, because I couldn't imagine a day where I didn't treasure seeing him.

"His scouts probably saw us leave, so they were waiting for us to return. I'm sure he realized it would be his best opportunity to get to me, since we are safer within the pack," I said, fighting against the heaviness in my eyes again.

"Yeah." He was looking away from me, and I could feel the buzzing in his chest. I knew he wasn't satisfied with my answer.

"What's going on in that head of yours?" I shifted in his arms, so my head was resting against his chest.

"Something feels... off. He was too prepared."

"Then we'll prepare for him next time." My head was growing heavy again, and I was struggling with focusing on my words.

"Stop fighting against it and get some rest. I'll be here with you the entire time, and we can talk when you feel better," Blade said. He shifted me off of his lap so I was lying in my bed, but he made a point to keep his arms around me the entire time. "I'm not tired," I said. We both knew it was a blatant lie, but it didn't stop me from fighting against my tiredness.

Blade chuckled in my ear. His lips were right by my ear, and his voice was like a lullaby. "Sweet dreams. I love you."
