The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 112
HARPER
stupid.
Part of me really hoped that Julie wasn't behind the false note to Remy, or if she was, it was just some stupid prank. I should have told someone about what I thought Julie had said yesterday. Maybe they could have asked her questions and stopped her from doing anything I made myself take a deep breath as I shifted into my werewolf form. I would move faster and cover more ground this way, so if Remy was in trouble, hopefully I could get to her in time. I sprinted down the street, pausing to sniff to see if I could pick up Remy's scent every now and then. She had left almost a half hour ago, so the wind seemed to have wiped her scent away from the area around the pack house.
I wracked my brain, trying to figure out where Julie would have told Remy to meet Blade. She wouldn't have gone out of the territory, so she would have been inside the pack still. There were still a lot of areas she could have gone to, and if she had gone into the forest, that would make it even harder to find her. If Julie was targeting Remy, she would have told her to go somewhere somewhat secluded. She wouldn't want witnesses for whatever she was planning on doing.
I paused, remembering that Caulder used to take his flings to the gazebo. It was the date spot for our classmates. It was secluded enough that no one could see what you were doing inside of the gazebo, and it was the go-to-makeout spot because of that. I was sure Caulder would have taken Julie there at some point. On top of that, Remy would have eagerly gone there with Blade if he asked.
Trusting my gut, I moved at full speed, hoping I wasn't too late. I arrived at the gazebo after just a few moments, and it was empty. My heart sank when I realized I was wrong. I had hoped to find Remy here, waiting for Blade patiently, but no one was there. She must've gone somewhere else.
I was about to continue on with my search when I realized there was a cell phone lying on the ground. I shifted into my human form and picked up the phone. The screen was cracked, but when I turned it on, I saw a picture of Blade in the background. My breath hitched as I realized this was Remy's phone.
I shifted back into a werewolf and started smelling around the gazebo. I picked up Remy's scent, and my heart started pounding even faster. A broken phone and no Remy made me lose any hope of this just being some stupid prank.
"I found evidence of Remy at the gazebo. I found her phone broken and picked up her scent," I quickly linked Caulder. I needed the others to join me as soon as possible, especially because I didn't know what I would find. "Stay there. I'm on my way," Caulder instantly linked back.
I knew Caulder didn't want me to go off on my own, but every minute we took to go after Remy was another minute she was put at risk.
"I'm going after her," I linked back and started running after Remy's trail. She needed my help, and I wasn't going to sit by like a useless fool again. I was going to do whatever I could to protect her. "Harper, don't," Caulder pleaded.
I ignored his request and continued running. Remy's scent grew stronger the more I ran. I only stopped when the scent became overwhelming. I looked around the ground, and the dirt was kicked up and moved around. A little fight definitely took place here. When my nose picked up the scent of blood, I knew I had to continue moving even faster.
I took off, easily picking up Remy's scent again. Every couple of yards, I picked up a stronger scent of blood, and I knew she was actively bleeding. Remy had been attacked, and she had fought as hard as she possibly could, but in her condition, she hadn't been able to defeat her opponent. I just hoped I wasn't too late to save her.
A scream echoed through the forest, and I immediately recognized the voice as Remy's. I pushed myself even harder. She was close. If I ran just a little faster, I could get to her. I ran faster than I ever had before, the adrenaline in my veins pushing my muscles past their limit.
I didn't slow down when I saw Remy being dragged by the arm by a werewolf. The werewolf's teeth were digging into her arm, dragging her as fast as she could. Remy was crying and protesting, and I was about to leap forward, preparing to rip the werewolf's throat out when I saw several red eyes surrounding the werewolf and Remy.
I skidded to a stop and quickly transformed into my human form. I practically flew behind a tree and tried to make myself as small as possible. There were at least three pairs of vampire eyes, and I knew I was too outnumbered to attack. They would overwhelm me in seconds, and I would have been completely useless to Remy if I tried to fight an unwinnable battle.
Her cries rang in my ear, and it made it nearly impossible not to rush after her, but I planted my feet, knowing I couldn't risk it. I slowed my breath as much as possible, knowing I couldn't let them catch me here. When my breath was near silent, I peeked around the corner and saw the werewolf dragging Remy over the border of the territory. The vampires waited on the other side of the border, and once Remy and the werewolf were cleared, the vampires surrounded the two of them, separating them from me. The werewolf shifted into human form, and Julie stood there, looking roughed up. She dropped Remy to the ground and turned to the vampires. "There. I got what Draven wanted. I'll leave it up to you guys to transport her to the headquarters." Two vampires picked Remy up and started dragging her away. Remy was scuffed up and in rough condition. Her arm was soaked in blood from where Julie had her teeth in her as she dragged her along. The wolfsbane still had to be in her system, which meant her werewolf healing abilities wouldn't kick in until the drug cleared her system. It put her at higher risk of infection, and if they took her away, she would be in trouble.
"I'm near the border," I quickly linked Caulder. "I see Remy. They are trying to take her away."
"Don't do anything," Caulder ordered.
I could feel his alpha tone slip into his voice, and it made my body freeze. I knew he was right. I should wait for backup, but Remy was pulled farther and farther away, and it wouldn't be long before she disappeared from my sight. I couldn't just sit there. Help would be too late.
"I'm sorry," I linked back. I knew he was going to be furious with me, but after I did nothing while he was taken away, I knew I wouldn't forgive myself if I did the same thing again. Remy needed me, and I wasn't about to sit back and watch her be kidnapped. "Please don't do anything to put yourself in danger." Caulder was desperate as he linked me back.
I didn't respond to Caulder again, knowing he would only continue to protest. I took a deep breath and peeked behind the tree again. Remy was so small now as they moved deeper into the forest. Without thinking, I flipped around from behind the tree and began moving as fast as possible while trying to keep my steps light.
I didn't know what I was going to do yet, since I still didn't think I could fight them. However, if I followed them, I could at least find out where they were taking Remy. Maybe I could go back with others to break her out. Or maybe there would be an opening where I could grab Remy and run. If they let their guards down, I could swoop in as fast as possible and at least bring Remy back into the territory where help would be waiting.
"Harper," Caulder pleaded again, but I continued ignoring him..
I closed the distance between the vampires and myself, and I was able to keep a steady pace as they continued dragging Remy through the forest. Seeing them treat her like that made my body tense with fury. She was injured, and they didn't care. They probably preferred it that way, because it made it easier to take her away.
I wasn't sure how long I was following them before they arrived at a shed-looking building. It wasn't very far away from the territory, but I had never seen it before. It was small and broken down, and there was a vampire standing outside, guarding the entrance. It didn't look like it was big enough to hold more than a handful of people, but the vampire guard opened the door for the two vampires dragging Remy. Julie followed behind them, but just as she was about to step into the shed, the third vampire shoved her forward. It looked like Julie wasn't a welcome guest after all.
I watched all of this occur from a tree several yards away. I made a note of all of the surroundings as the little door shut with Remy and Julie inside of it. Now that I knew where they had taken Remy, I was prepared to sprint back to the territory to get the others. We could save Remy and bring her to safety now that we knew where she was.
"I know where they took Remy," I linked Caulder. "They brought her to this little-"
A sharp back radiated from the back of my head, and I fell forward from the force that hit me. I landed on my knees and then twisted onto my back so I could try to figure out what had happened. I looked up into a pair of red eyes. The vampire had pretty blonde hair, but when she looked at me, her sinister smile made her look evil and hideous.
"Foolish wolf," she said as my vision went completely black.
