The Brother of My Boyfriend: A Love for Two -
Chapter 23
"Dylan and Mandy walked together towards the kitchen, laughing and exchanging ideas about what they would prepare for dinner. When they arrived, they were surprised to find Dylan's mother already busy in the kitchen. She had already ordered a delicious meal. Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, as she had decided to invite her son's ex-girlfriend without his knowledge.
Dylan entered the kitchen, inhaling the delicious aroma in the air. 'What a wonderful smell is this?' he asked, surprised and curious. His mother, smiling, looked at him and said, 'Son, I took the initiative to order something tasty for dinner tonight. I wanted it to be special for all of us.' Dylan was touched by his mother's affectionate gesture and thanked her with a sincere smile.
While Mandy observed the interaction between Dylan and his mother, she detected a subtext in the atmosphere, an indication that there was more to it than just a kind gesture. Mandy was aware that her relationship with her mother-in-law was not the smoothest, and this added a layer of tension to the situation.
Mandy's mother-in-law, with a gentle smile, approached and said, 'Come, dear, let's sit down and have dinner together. Jason is already at the entrance, coming up with Megan.'
Mandy looks at her mother-in-law with a suspicious look. Dylan notices and whispers in Mandy's ear, 'Come on, love, she's trying to make amends.' He disguises and sits at the table. Mandy also takes her seat.
Jason arrived with Megan, and the first thing she said was, 'The smell is wonderful!' Everyone smiled, thanking her for the compliment. They sat at the table, creating an atmosphere of anticipation. Dylan, curious, asked Jason about the meeting with Megan's parents. Jason answered with a visible smile, saying, 'It was great. They're nice people. I was a little nervous, but everything went well.'
Megan, excited, added, 'They loved Jason. They were happy to meet him and were impressed with how attentive he is.'
Morgana, Jason's mother, smiled and said, 'I'm very happy to hear that Megan's parents liked you, Jason. That's a good sign.' She looked at Megan with a sparkle in her eyes and asked, 'And your parents, what do they do for a living? I hope I'm not being too intrusive.'
Megan reassured Morgana, saying, 'Not at all, it's not intrusive. My dad is a judge, and my mom is a lawyer.' Megan's words were spoken with quiet pride. Understanding the situation better, Morgana listened attentively as Megan shared details about her parents. In her heart, she couldn't help but feel a sense of recognition. It was clear that Megan was an excellent match for her son, Jason. Perhaps Megan was influencing Jason in positive ways, shaping him for a more promising future - it was what he needed.
In contrast, Morgana couldn't help but admit, in her inner thoughts, that Dylan's relationship with Mandy hadn't been the most solid. Dylan owned his own company, and she wanted him to be with a more cultured woman like Raquelle. Returning to her senses, Morgana couldn't help but praise Megan. Morgana looked at Megan with appreciative eyes and sincerely said, 'Megan, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad to see how well you and Jason complement each other. I'm sure you bring a very positive influence to his life.'
She continued, showing genuine enthusiasm, 'I hope to have the opportunity to meet the wonderful parents who raised someone as special as you. I'm sure we have a lot in common.' Morgana's sincerity created an atmosphere of harmony and acceptance in the room.
'Yes, it will be a pleasure to have you at our home. I'm sure my parents will adore you,' Megan said.
'Don't call me "senhora," my dear daughter-in-law. You can call me Aunt Morgana.'
'Alright then, Aunt Morgana,' Megan said with a smile.
'I'm glad you liked it, Megan. Since you're always against my choices, I'm happy that you approve,' Jason ironically remarked.
'I know that with Megan by your side, you'll change. Behind every great man is a great woman,' Morgana said.
Dylan observed the scene, his attentive gaze capturing every word from his mother. He noticed how Morgana praised Megan. It was clear that the fact that Megan's parents were important people was influencing his mother's perception of her. 'I can't help but agree with you, Mom,' Dylan said, kissing Mandy's hand.
'Ah, my son. In your case, you don't need a great woman because you've achieved everything on your own. You've always been very determined,' Morgana replied.
Mandy, feeling uncomfortable with Morgana's comments, realized it was time to leave. With a forced smile, she excused herself and got up from the table, seeking a moment of privacy to process her feelings. As she walked down the corridor, Mandy took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil in her chest.
Seeing Mandy get up, Jason felt a wave of frustration and disappointment. He couldn't help but express his dissatisfaction and firmly called his mother's attention. 'Mom, I think you went a bit too far. Please, leave Mandy alone,' he said, irritated.
Morgana responded to Jason firmly, 'I don't think I went too far. After all, Dylan is still here with us. If he felt I said something wrong, he would have gone after her.' Her words echoed in the kitchen, creating a brief moment of tension. Even though Mandy tried not to be affected, she felt deeply offended by how things had been phrased.
Seeing the charged atmosphere, Jason looked at Dylan and said decisively, 'Dylan, I think you'd better go after Mandy.' His serious gaze conveyed the urgency of the situation. Dylan nodded, feeling the gravity of the situation, and quickly got up to follow Mandy and try to make things right. 'Why do you have to be so unpleasant, Mom? You're always trying to needle Mandy, and I'm dumbfounded that Dylan can't see you're intentionally trying to bother her for no reason,' Jason said, upset with the situation.
'How long have you known Mandy? At most, two months. Why did you decide to defend her? Is there something I don't know, Jason?' Morgana insinuated.
'What on earth are you talking about?' he asked.
'I don't know, son. You tell me. Why, for someone you've known for such a short time, are you so intimate, going on trips, getting stranded on an island?' She injected her venom.
'Aunt Morgana, I have to disagree with you on this. Mandy hasn't been the same towards Jason since he arrived, and their trip was an attempt to make amends. Mandy only has eyes for Dylan; she's a good person, we've been friends forever,' Megan said.
'Someday you'll see I'm right, dear,' Morgana replied to Megan.
'I've lost my appetite! I'll wait for you in the room, Megan,' Jason responded, getting up.
'I'll go with you. Excuse me, Aunt Morg "I'll go with you. Excuse me, Aunt Morgana. Everything was wonderful," Megan said."Thank you, dear," Morgana replied. The way Jason defended Mandy made Morgana even more suspicious that Jason had feelings for her and that something had indeed happened on that island."
