The Brother of My Boyfriend: A Love for Two -
Chapter 24
Dylan enters the room and sees Mandy, her head hung low, still upset about what his mother said to her. Dylan sits beside her on the bed and says, "Mandy, I know you're upset about what my mom said, but believe me, she didn't mean to hurt you. She's just worried. Let's talk to her together, okay? Let's resolve this." Mandy looks into his eyes, upset with the situation, and says, "You didn't even defend me. You just listened and watched her say those things to humiliate me. You told me you'd be on my side if you had to choose, but you weren't," she says with tears in her eyes.
"My love, I just didn't want to make things worse by adding fuel to the fire," he explains.
"You stayed quiet because that's always what you do. You always say you'll defend me from her, but you always let her say whatever she wants. Even with your brother, you see how she belittles him, makes distinctions between you two, and you never stood up for him," she vents.
"Why are you bringing Jason into this? And how do you know I've never done anything?" he asks.
"Because the day I went to pick him up from the bar, he told me he was tired of everything your mother does, the way she compares you two and always thinks you're the best. If you've never defended your brother, who's your blood, why would you defend me?" she cries.
"Please, don't do this. Don't create a storm," he says.
"A storm? Is that what you think? I'm leaving," she says, grabbing her things.
"Are you going because of this? You know how she is."
"That's exactly why I'm going. I can't breathe the same air as her anymore," she kisses him on the cheek and leaves the room.
Jason discreetly listened to the conversation between Mandy and Dylan, noticing the sadness in her voice. Taking advantage of the situation, he left the apartment and asked Megan not to wait up for him, explaining that he needed some time to clear his head. He promised he'd be back soon. Jason went down to the building's garage to get his car and drove to the street beside the building, hoping to see Mandy come out.
Mandy left the apartment, and Dylan couldn't bring himself to follow her. He still thought she took everything his mother said too seriously. He decided not to intervene and let her be. This only hurt Mandy even more. She got into the elevator, tears streaming down her face as she descended to the ground floor. When she reached the building's lobby, the doorman greeted her and asked what had happened.
"Are you okay, my dear?" Mr. Francisco asked. Mandy replied, "I'm fine, thank you for your concern, Mr. Francisco." "I hope you'll be alright, my dear. Would you like me to call a taxi? It's getting late," he offered. With a smile still filled with tears, she said, "No need, I'll walk a bit to the bus stop. Thank you, Mr. Francisco. Goodnight to you." Mandy bid farewell to the doorman and walked towards the building's exit.
As she left the building, Mandy took a deep breath. Her face still marked by the argument and Dylan's lack of understanding, she walked towards the bus stop. The wind on her face was just what she needed before allowing herself to break down in tears. When she reached the bus stop, she sat on the bench and began to cry. From a distance, Jason spotted her. He started the car and drove to the bus stop. When he arrived, he rolled down the window, giving Mandy quite a start. "What a scare, Jason!" she exclaimed in surprise.
"Come on, get in the car," he said.
"Why? Did Dylan send you?" she asked.
"Just do as I say, please. Don't be stubborn," he said.
"Alright."
Mandy got into the car, and Jason drove to a nearby diner to get her a cup of coffee, hoping it would help calm her down. When they arrived at the diner, Jason and Mandy sat at a table and ordered some coffee. "Feeling better?" Jason asked.
"A little. The coffee helped," she replied.
"I don't like how my mother treats you. She's crossed the line."
"I don't understand why she acts this way. I've never done anything to her," she said.
"She wants Jason to go back to Raquelle. They dated for years, and coming from a wealthy family means a lot to my mother."
"She thinks love can be measured by how much money someone has?"
"For her, it does," he chuckled at the situation.
"That's not funny. It wasn't a joke," she said.
"But it's kind of funny, I'm sorry. I don't know what era my mother is living in."
"But tell me, why did you come after me? Did Dylan send you?" she asked.
"No, I came because I overheard you guys talking. My brother is a good guy, but he'll always bow down to my mother. He'll take a stance in some cases, but in others, he'll side with her. And I thought someone who defended me shouldn't be alone, especially not crying," he said.
"I thought you couldn't stand being near me, especially after everything and the things you said to me," she questioned him.
"Look, Mandy, I know I said some harsh things. But I only said them to push you away. I can't be with you, especially since you're engaged to my brother. I know I didn't find a good way to say it, and I'm sorry for that," he answered her question.
"It wasn't nice. I still remember everything you said to me. I know we got confused and ended up doing things we shouldn't have, but it won't happen again, I promise. I love Dylan, and he's your brother, and..."
Before Mandy can finish, Jason kisses her on the mouth. Mandy tries to pull away to push him back and says, "What do you think you're doing?" "Kissing you," he replies, smiling.
"Do you want someone to see us? Have you gone mad?" she asks, irritated.
"No one here knows us. We're far from home. I felt like kissing you, so I did. That's all," he says.
"What am I to you? What makes you think you can kiss me whenever you want?"
Jason silences Mandy with another kiss, and this time she responds. His fingers tangled in her hair as their mouths met each other's every kiss. "Shall we get out of here?" he asks.
"To go where?" she asks, curious.
"To a secret place," he makes a bold proposal.
"The last time you took me to a secret place, we got stuck," she smiles as she says it.
"Come with me this time, and I promise it'll be safe."
Jason takes Mandy's hands, and they head to the car, driving to a mysterious location he hasn't revealed yet.
