The Daemon’s Eyes -
CHAPTER 29
************
The ride was a smooth but awkwardly quiet one, before Richard decided to break the silence. He needed her last name incase she'd prove to be a bother.... "So.... You're not from Durindo. Are you?"
Surprisingly, although he hadn't been smiling, the question sounded a bit nice.... To her that is...
She nods. 'It won't be safe to tell a complete stranger my plans about solving dad's mysterious death yet...', she concludes. "I just came here to get a good paying job I guess ...", She shrugs. He'd just noticed her eyes... The glasses had distracted him. 'Why the fuck were they red?!', He wonders. "Where do you come from?", His eyes narrow. "And your eyes...."
"Ohh..", she smiles awkwardly. "It's just a rare disorder", she lied.
"Hmmph.."
"And I'm from far off Hermilton in the east"
"Ohh!", He relaxes in his seat. "A commoners' city..", he adds mockingly. He remembered the time he was in poverty, people looked down on him and that's what enabled him strive harder for wealth.
If the rich didn't look down on the poor who had no accomplishments, would they ever move above that state?
She was about pissed off, but refused to show it.
"So.. where are we going, sir...?"
His eyes narrow. 'She still hasn't told me her last name...'
"Well... My old secretary isn't done packing out yet", he yawns, deciding not to draw the subject any further. "But I'll allow you to stay in my home for the meantime".
She archs a questioning brow.
"Whatever you're thinking, isn't what it is", he frowns in anger. "I can assure you... I have no interest in women", he meets her eyes.
The car slowed down on passing through the gates of the mansion. Sabrina couldn't help but feel bad about doubting him after his generous gesture of kindness.... especially when her job depended on him!!
Stepping out from the car, Sabrina noticed a tall woman with a sad look on her face standing by the door.
'Is that his mother... Or wife..?', she had a sad expression on her face before running into the mansion.
Another lady came out some seconds later.
'Just how many women lived here!!', she looked at him with the corner of her eye.
This lady looked fairly old with white hair mixed with black, but she stood tall in butler wear and seemed quite energetic!
"I have a guest house but it'll be pretty lonely out there", he adds without looking at her. "And it still has to be tidied up". He heads for the front door with his briefcase...
In silence, she follows with her luggage.
Hannah Dwelton, quickly takes some steps forward through the front door. "Shall I show you to your room?". Taking a good look at her, she was a short old lady who spoke with youthful vigour. But... Something didn't feel right on stepping into the house.... No.... Something was seriously wrong!
She'd unconsciously jerked a little with shock.
"What is it?", Richard's eyes narrowed.
"Ohh...", The words just came flying out. "it's just so big... I might get lost..". She smiles.
"Hmmph...", It was obviously a lie but he'd decided to let it slide. "Really?", Was all he said before leaving.
Immediately Sabrina got into her room, she locked her door and jammed her back to it before falling on the floor.
The hairs on her skin were all standing and she couldn't stop quivering. "Wha...what is this place?". She pulled a hand through her face.
'It reeks of death and something even more sinister!'
Although.... She hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary.
There was a knock at the door. "Time for lunch!", Hannah cried out.
"Ohhm... I'm not really hungry..."
Without any other questioning... Hannah left. Well... The truth was that she was dying of hunger!... But didn't want to get to cozy all of a sudden! Or even step out from this room!
Her eyes finally took a glance of the room. It was two times the size of our living room in Hermilton! And our living room was quite large!
Sabrina unzipped her box without getting off the floor. Slipping out her laptop, she began to search for the man "Richard Von Peep" after it booted. "Hmm", cupping her chin.
All the information she'd seen was nothing out of the ordinary. He'd lived in Durindo all his life...
'He was quite young to be number seven though..', she told herself. "What?... He's a registered investigator?!"
This was big news for her!!
But.... How could she ask her boss to do her a favor by investigating her father's death?!
She slaps her forehead. "He's already doing enough for me!... I can't just go around asking him for favors!". She jumped to her feet, the laptop in her arms while she kicked off her shoes. "How I wish Logan...", She stopped herself from completing the sentence. Logan was long gone...
Yeah... The Daemon who'd haunted her ages ago. She usually wondered where he could have gone after leaving her....
His last words were....me.."
"I probably just need some fresh air...". She told herself.
"Damn her!", Richard curses under his breathe while slamming his fist against the tiled wall of his bathroom.
"I have to get her full name before she decides to leave!", He pulls his hair while looking out the window. "Speak of the devil..", his eyes narrowed.
She'd been in the garden smelling the flowers...
"Ohh!...", He slaps his forehead. "Misha will have all records for the job interview!!"
His eyes narrow again in confusion while looking down the window. Who the hell was she talking to??!!
*******
"Hello there miss..", Sabrina speaks shyly to the sad woman she'd seen before.
The lady didn't answer but the widening of her eyes showed that she was in shock.
"Why are you so sad?", She approaches her but the lady takes a few steps backwards.
"I'm sad because my son isn't fine", she looks down.
"Are you Mr Richard's mother?",
Marinette nods.
"Have you tried talking to him, ma?", She adds with worry.
"Well... We don't really see eye to eye"
"Is there anyway I could help?"
Marinette turns to leave, "If you value your life... Leave here girl...", Is the only thing she said without looking back....
Sabrina hadn't known it was a ghost since her form was quite solid... But those eyes....
They were the saddest she'd ever seen...
