The Enticing CEO’s Chosen Bride -
Chapter 883
Chapter 883
Chloe Summen stepped forward mightily and swiftly pushed her out, grabbing Kate by the chin.
Dread quickly erased Kate's initial resistance, and the words she spoke came out in a weak murmur like a plea for mercy.
James was following closely behind Presley, standing at the staircase entrance, watching the two of them.
Seeing Chloe's cold, domineering demeanor, Presley's eyes remained calm.
Presley, on the other hand, was deeply shocked. Even though Chloe seemed small, she was powerful.
The woman coming back alongside Chloe had a unique aura. Other than being somewhat fragile, she exuded a certain charm.
Chloe completely ignored Kate’s panic and lightly held her chin, lifting her face to meet her gaze.
The sight before her caused Chloe's cold demeanor to intensify, chilling Kate to her very bones.
Reflecting on their time together, Kate had always been a reminder of her family's shame, enough to prove she was a woman of integrity.
Chloe brushed aside the hair on Kate's forehead, revealing a birthmark that immediately caught her eye. Chloe gently traced the birthmark with her fingers.
Kate's face was full of panic, her eyes filled with fear and anxiety. She wished she could find a place to hide, her body trembling involuntarily.
"I heard about your birthmark. My mom said my birthmark is on my face. Yours is on your forehead. How does it bother me?" Chloe asked.
From childhood to adulthood, wherever she went, Kate became the subject of ridicule. Even her family was indifferent to her. No one cared.
Despite studying hard and adding more skills on her own, there were so many things she wanted to do but held back because of this birthmark.
Whenever someone called her out for it, she would never go out.
Suddenly, this woman, from the very beginning, directly uncovered her wound.
Chloe's words brought faint expressions to the faces of those in the room. Kate's body tensed even more, and she looked at Chloe in disbelief.
The tension in the room was palpable.
Chloe's eyes shimmered with a tender light. Hearing Kate's words of disbelief, she lowered her gaze, her bright eyes sweeping over the woman's face.
Untouched by makeup, her skin was glowing and smooth. Her eyes were exceptionally beautiful, devoid of any hostility, displaying kindness, grace, and a hint of shyness and surprise. Chloe gently lifted Kate's chin and asked, "Do you think it's ugly?"
Kate's eyes flickered, and for a moment, she gave a somewhat sorrowful smile. "Don't comfort me. Do you think it's beautiful? You wouldn't understand. From childhood, the mockery I've lived with because of it. No one cares."
Hearing Kate's words, Chloe felt warmth in her heart. She no longer teased Kate. Her lack of self-confidence was due to her own insecurity. In some aspects, she might have her own unique charm.
Is everything everyone says always right? Does the only person with a different opinion have to be wrong?
Due to her height advantage, Chloe looked down at Kate with a slight smile on her face.
Kate tried to speak, but Chloe continued, "You've just accepted their point of view."
After saying that, Chloe let go of Kate.
Kate instinctively started to sort out her hair, trying her best to cover the birthmark. Chloe just watched her and smiled softly. "Let's go for a walk."
Kate was somewhat reluctant, clutching a white canvas bag in her hand.
On the bag was a crescent moon pattern. Chloe's eyes swept over it, flashing with interest. She suddenly bent down to look at the bag more closely.
Upon a closer look, she realized that the pattern was indeed embroidered.
"Where did you buy this cloth bag?" Chloe asked.
Kate hesitated a bit, looking at Chloe, who was looking up at her. She turned her face to one side. "I embroidered it myself."
Chloe was taken aback and smiled, looking in the direction of the staircase entrance.
James and Presley exchanged looks. Presley coughed heavily and disappeared.
Chloe gave a small smile and said helplessly, "Teach me sometime when you have a moment."
"What?" Kate asked, puzzled.
"Embroidery," Chloe replied.
By the time they were ready to leave, a car had already been arranged to wait for them.
They got in the car and headed straight for the nearest mall.
As expected, there were naturally a lot of people in the mall, everyone dressed in stylish and designer clothes, making Kate feel a bit out of place.
Seeing her almost nervously fidgeting, Chloe quickly grasped her hand. Her palm was full of cold sweat. Kate tried to pull her hand back, but Chloe didn’t let go.
Although she had doubted Chloe's words at the Harper family, Chloe’s proactive approach now made Kate feel a bit warm.
The two went straight to the clothing section. Chloe picked out several items she wanted to buy for Kate, but Kate, being nervous, dodged them all.
"Even the people closest to me, your kindness feels too forced."
Chloe shook her head, and when they passed by a vintage-style clothing store, she dragged Kate inside. Sure enough, seeing the clothes in the store, Kate was willing to stop. The piece she was most interested in was a pale blue dress.
Chloe picked out a bright yellow dress embroidered with jasmine flowers and held it against Kate’s body, then nodded her head.
"Try it on," she said, pushing the dress into Kate's hands.
Kate was looking at the brightly colored dress in her arms, just about to decline when the store attendant suddenly walked over.
"Ma'am, you’ve got quite the taste! This dress is the pride and joy of our brand designer, a real gem in our store. It’s just that, due to its unique design, its appeal is somewhat limited. To be honest, quite a few wealthy ladies have shown interest in this dress, but they all thought it was too unique for them."
Seeing this scene, Kate’s resolve began to waver.
"Try this one on," Chloe's expression was somewhat cold as she repeated her previous statement, leaving no room for refusal.
The store attendant was a bit intimidated by Chloe's aura, but under some subtle pressure, she still led Kate to the fitting room.
Shortly after, Kate emerged from the fitting room.
Although her clothes had changed, her nervousness remained.
Chloe's eyes glanced at Kate, and she smiled. "Perfect."
