Chapter 884

Gathered

One part of the group came out and saw Kate in the hall, speaking to a woman. Kate’s face was full of dust and she seemed a bit distressed. The woman, who was well-dressed, was talking to her with an air of superiority.

The men at the back were eyeing Kate and the woman with interest, and it was clear that there was some tension in the air.

Kate took a step back, her lips trembling slightly, but as soon as she looked up, she saw a familiar face in the crowd. It was Jesse, who immediately made his way to her and took her hand.

"What are you doing here? Are you looking for trouble?" the woman asked, her tone cold and haughty.

Kate’s face turned pale. She hated confrontations, but she couldn’t avoid it now. She took a deep breath and tried to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out.

The woman pushed her chest slightly, causing Kate to stumble. "Get out of my way," she said, her voice dripping with contempt.

Jesse’s eyebrows knitted together in concern. He stepped forward, placing himself between Kate and the woman. "What do you think you’re doing?" he demanded.

The woman sneered. "Oh, look who’s here. Mr. Hero, come to save the day."

Jesse ignored her, turning to Kate. "Are you okay?" he asked softly.

Kate nodded, her eyes filled with tears. She couldn’t understand why the woman was being so cruel to her.

"You should leave," Jesse said firmly to the woman. "You’re not welcome here."

The woman’s eyes narrowed. "You can’t tell me what to do," she snapped. "This is none of your business."

Jesse didn’t back down. "It is my business when you’re hurting someone I care about."

The woman laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "Oh, please. Spare me the heroics. You don’t even know what’s going on."

Jesse took a step closer, his eyes blazing with anger. "I know enough. And I’m telling you to leave. Now."

The woman glared at him for a moment, then turned on her heel and stalked away, her heels clicking loudly on the floor.

As soon as she was gone, Kate let out a shaky breath. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Jesse pulled her into his arms, holding her close. "It’s okay," he murmured. "I’m here now."

Kate buried her face in his chest, her tears soaking through his shirt. "I don’t know why she hates me so much," she said, her voice breaking.

Jesse stroked her hair gently. "It doesn’t matter," he said softly. "What matters is that you’re safe now."

Kate nodded, taking comfort in his embrace. She didn’t know what she would do without him.

As they stood there, holding each other, the rest of the world seemed to fade away. For a moment, it was just the two of them, and nothing else mattered.

Jesse kissed the top of her head, his heart aching for her. He knew that there would be more challenges ahead, but as long as they were together, he knew they could face anything.
