Penelope pov 1 month later

Saying goodbye to the large werebear Alpha was one of the hardest things she has ever done. In the short amount of time that she knew him, she fell madly in love with him. Penelope knew that whenever Noah got back from wherever he was, that they were going to have to break their bond.

Penelope learned a lot from being with LB, and she realized how toxic her relationship with Noah really was. If Noah truly loved her, he would have waited for her to be ready. Noah would have waited for her to get over her hurt, Noah shouldn’t have gotten upset, and slept with another she-wolf. Penelope of course shouldn’t have slept with another wolf to get back at him either. Like she said, toxic.

When LB left Penelope made sure he had her number, and contact information. She was estatic when she got a text massage from an unknown number a few days later. They exchanged text messages back, and forth. But nothing more than that.

Penelope threw herself into her schoolwork even more if that was possible. She studied all the time, and only took breaks to talk to her family, and LB. She was ignoring Noah at this point, she didn’t want to deal with the matebond any longer. Penelope needed to focus on herself, and what was important to her. That was becoming a doctor, and taking care of her family. Thanksgiving break was coming soon, and she couldn’t wait to see her family. She couldn’t wait to see how Liliana was doing, pregnant with the twins.

LB pov

LB left with alpha Axel and went back to him in his pack. Axel was a strong Alpha, but when the two Alphas met Axel bowed his neck in submission. Axel had only felt the need once like it before, he said and gave a side eye to Penelope. LB didn’t understand the byplay but didn’t ask any questions.

LB boarded the plane with his heart in his throat. He couldn’t help but feel like he was making a mistake, leaving her behind. However, she was right about one thing, he had to find out who he was. Unfortunately he wasn’t going to do that here. LB knew he was going to have to come back to Philly, not just for Penelope. He was almost killed here, LB had to make people pay for what they did to him. He was an alpha, and he couldn’t let that stand.

LB had been in The White Claw pack for three weeks, and they were making no progress into finding out his identity.

The only thing LB was finding were slutty woman who were drawn to his power. It was beyond annoying. Axel, Heath, and himself we’re sitting in Axel’s office trying to find his pack.

Axel was making phone calls to packs, inquiring about missing Alpha’s. LB didn’t think it was the way to go, because who is going to admit that their alpha is missing. Suddenly Axel’s eyes glazed over, LB knew he was linking some one.

“What is it?” He asked the room.

“Some one is at the border asked to be let in.” Axel told him.

“Who is it?”

“Unknown bear shifters,” Axel said as he walked out of the room. The three of them walked down the stairs into what looked like a living room. There they waited for the visitors.

“Braxton! Oh thank Goddess it’s my baby boy!” LB was suddenly embraced by an older woman and male. By their scents it was definitely bear shifters like himself. They were both alpha’s as well. In their own right. The woman was an alpha born, not because she mated to an alpha. As he hugged these bearshifters his bear felt a familiar attachment to them. He pulled away, and was going to say something but was interrupted.

“I can’t take it anymore, let me see my mate!” A women screamed from behind. LB or Braxton was so distracted from meeting his parents that he didn’t notice another woman come in with them. This woman was supposed to be his mate?

“Who are you?” Braxton growled at the woman. The woman wasn’t deterred from his growl, she just smiled,

“I’m your mate Stephanie silly.” The woman pulled him into a hug.

As this woman gripped him hard in a hug, he knew something was off. His bear didn’t respond to her like a mate should. His bear actually growled at her touch. This Stephanie may have been his mate at one time, but he knew that something had happened.

Braxton looked to his parents, and they looked away from him. They looked guilty, so they knew something had happened between them, and they were hiding it.

Everything just felt off, Braxton didn’t know what it was. His mate, his parents were hiding something He couldn’t shake the feeling that they were lying to him. But he didn’t understand why.

“What’s going on?” He asked.

“I don’t know what you are talking about son,” the man claiming to be his dad said soothingly.

“Why don’t I show you your rooms, and you guys can settle in,” alpha Axel said soothingly.

He had to call Penelope, he had to let her know what was going on. She of all people deserved to know. Braxton’s parents were talking to alpha Axel, and he started to leave the room.

“Son where are you going?” His mother asked him.

“Out,” he said simply. Stephanie tried to follow him, Braxton turned around,

“You stay here,” he commanded in his alpha voice.

“But Brax!” Stephanie cried. Braxton cringed,

“Don’t call me that!” He huffed out, and walked out the door. Braxton walked to his room in the pack house, and pulled out his phone. He checked the time, and Penelope should be studying right now. He clicked on her contact information, and hit the FaceTime option. It rang for a few minutes then her beautiful face appeared on the screen.

“Hey!” Penelope said smiling at him widely. His bear started purring, yup f.ucking purring. Braxton didn’t even know bears did that, he thought that was just something wolf’s and felines did.

“Hey Pen it’s good to see you,” he told her.

“You okay?” Penelope asked him. Braxton let out a rueful chuckle. She knew him so well after only being around him for a short period of time.

“No, people claiming to be my parents showed up,” Braxton said. Braxton watched as Penelope’s face showed an array of emotions showed on her face. They changed so quickly that Braxton couldn’t really decipher them.

“Do you think they are your parents?” She asked him.

“I think they are my family.”

“But your not sure if they are my parents no,” he admitted.

“They told me my name is Braxton,” he said. Penelope smiled,

“I like the name I gave your better.” Braxton smiled back at her,

“I like it too.” Suddenly the door opened,

“Hey Braxxy I was looking all over for you!” Stephanie said as she walked into my room.

“What the hell are you doing in here!” He boomed out. Stephanie saw he was on a call with Penelope, and she started screaming.

“What are you doing talking to other woman? I am your mate?!” Stephanie screeched out. Braxton was about to blow up when his so-called parents walked into the room.

“What’s going on here?” His mother demanded.

“Everyone shut up!” He boomed in his alpha voice. He looked at his phone, and saw Penelope had disconnected the call. He was pissed,

“I don’t know what you people are up to, but you need to leave the room.” Braxton said to his parents, and the left the room. His fake mate started to leave, and he held her back.

“Oh no, not you. We need to have a little chat.” Stephanie looked happy, he pinned her against the wall.

“I don’t know what it is you are up to claiming to be my mate,” Braxton started.

“But I am-“ she started, and He cut her off.

“If we were mates then we rejected each other.” Braxton said and he looked at Stephanie in the eye. She must of been a damn good poker player cause she didn’t give anything away.

“I say that cause my bear can’t stand you, he doesn’t like the fact that I’m touching you right now. So I don’t know what’s going on, but if you think you can take me for a fool think again. I won’t hesitate to rip your head off.” Braxton pulled away from her, she had a good poker fact, but her breathing was shaky and her heart rate was accelerated.

“You can go now.”

Once the viper left Braxton tried to call Penelope again, and explain what happened. Damn she wouldn’t pick up, but he couldn’t blame her. Braxton spent all night texting her the mess he found himself in, hoping she would take pity on him and text him back.
