The Fall Of Lucian -
Chapter 18
-My alpha,” Ria’s voice brought her out of her stupor, “Are you alright? -The albino immediately smells the human’s scent on her friend’s body.
-What happened?
-With the human? -Deisy just nods, “His wound opened up again, I had to re-bake his body and put new bandages on it. What happened, my alpha? Did he try to escape?
The albino remains silent and maintains her upright posture.
-And will that have any side effects on him? Will he die? -Ria looked confused, at so many dodged answers.
-No my lady, he will not die. He did lose b***d, but he will recover. The matriarch has made him some tea to put him to sleep. He was a bit restless, he told me he wanted to go out to…” Deisy widens her gaze.
-To what?
-He said he wanted to see her,” she whispers, a little embarrassed.
But Deisy was more embarrassed to discover that this human was putting her in a situation she didn’t like. She didn’t want his insinuations to affect her relationship with the wolves in the pack, she had worked too hard to win them over for this human to come along and spoil everything.
The albino turns her face away; and begins to rack her brain for an appropriate response to Ria’s comment.
-Don’t mind him, what he wants is for me to set him free and not send him to the king’s castle.
-Of course, don’t worry.
-Only you will feed him, I don’t want anyone else to do that job.
The young woman blinks repeatedly, but doesn’t ask her alpha’s reason. She simply nods.
-Do you need anything?
-No, you may go.
Ria bows, and leaves.
Deisy evens her lips, leaving her with several questions on her mind, such as; and the one she thought most important of all, what did this human want to achieve with his actions? That he would let him go free? Or did he…?
No, that was an absurd question. But the mere thought of it made his b***d boil.
[…]The blue moon pack awoke early in the morning, Adara and Bardas being the first. Both of them, as leaders, took the reins of the pack without any problem. And for the short time they had been there, they were doing quite well.
The two spent most of the day and evening busy with different things, so they hardly got to see each other. This was too frustrating for Adara, as the wolf wanted nothing more than to have a moment with her wolf.
Whenever she had some free time, she would try to find Bardas, but she always found him too busy to attend to her. She would look at him from afar and feel her heart flutter.
Sometimes she wondered if he really felt that strong attraction he said he felt, so far, he hadn’t tried to give her his first k**s, what was he waiting for? It was the question she asked herself over and over again.
They shared the same house, and even that didn’t work at night… it was definitely not the same as her parents lived. Her father’s great love and devotion to her mother was evident, he would go out of his way for her, he would look for her even when he was too busy.
By the time she fell ill, his love had grown so great that she felt a little jealous. She always wished she could find a wolf who loved her like that. But her wolf turned out to be a prince, the future alpha king of all the packs, his position was important.
But then, how was she going to cope with that situation? She wanted this man’s love, not a wolf who put his duty first. Yes, she knew it was a heavy burden on the prince’s shoulders, but what about her? Wasn’t she important?
Adara watches Bardas that evening, it was almost dusk. She had finished her duties early, hoping that he would be unoccupied. But that wasn’t the case, the prince was still quite busy organising a squadron for that night, along with his uncle JB.
-Long day, isn’t it? -Her Aunt Megan’s voice startles her.
-Yes, something,” she looks down.
-It’s hard to be in love with a busy wolf, it’s easier to fall in love with a regular wolf,” she says, since she’s probably seen her watching her wolf from afar. But he should always make time for his moon, whatever he does, whatever it is… just like your father does with Shery, or JB does with me,” Megan hugs her niece.
-He’s a prince, how is he going to make time for me?
-No matter what, his moon is paramount. If you’re not there, he’s not complete. You must talk to him about it, make him understand that he must give you priority.
The chestnut presses her lips together and watches her wolf giving orders, she felt so sad. Meeting her destined love was not what she imagined, so long waiting for him to turn out to be a man who had time for her.
She was so happy, but now, she didn’t know how to explain how she felt.
Adara turns and walks away, her aunt watches Bardas and her husband and then follows her niece.
-Adara…
-I’d like to be alone, aunt.
-Your first heat is coming soon!
The young woman stops, feeling her heart begin to thud in her chest, she didn’t understand much about it, since mothers were the ones who were in charge of helping their daughters to recognise when that happened. But since her mother was human, she didn’t know anything about it.
And her father would never get involved in such matters.
But her aunt was a different kettle of fish. She was a she-wolf and she knew it. The young woman turns around and sees her aunt Megan smiling at her.
-How do you know?
-It’s my duty to know, I have two puppies, at some point it will be my turn with them too. I saw you born and grow up, and even though your mother doesn’t have this gift, she personally asked me to take care of you when this time comes.
-Mum? -Her eyes watered, her mother always so cautious.
She looks down, and thinks that she probably felt terrible that she couldn’t help her with something so easy. Poor her mother.
-Don’t worry, she’ll be fine.
-I know! -She smiles sadly. When… when will it happen?
-In two days. You must be forewarned.
-Why? -She looks up.
-Because the first thing you’ll do is look for your wolf. You’ll be desperate to find him, you’ll transform, and you’ll try to be with him no matter what. So, I recommend you be prepared, Adara.
-And what if I find him?
-Well…” Megan didn’t know what to answer, since that was logical.
-What, wait… It can’t be?!
The brunette was alarmed, she didn’t want to make a fool of herself in front of everyone, and if Bardas rejected her because he was busy. And she’s all in heat looking for him to make her his.
-Calm down,” Megan catches up with her. Since it’s your first heat, we can control it. I’ll help you, if that’s what you want.
-How?
-I’ll have to lock you up, Adara. It’s the only way that night of your heat will pass, and well, nothing happens that you don’t want to happen.
-I think it would be the best thing to do, Bardas is too busy to deal with me,” she lowers her face. Locking me up is the best option, Auntie.
-There’s always the possibility of you talking to him, don’t you think that would be a good idea? It’s better to clear up any misunderstandings.
She denies that there were no misunderstandings. Bardas was too busy to spend time with her, and it was logical, he was the king’s son. His duty was not to make himself look bad in front of the herd. Duty came first, and then her.
-We will do as you say,” he looked at his aunt sadly.
-All right, on the morning of the second, come home early. I’ll get everything ready!
It was the right thing to do, if Bardas hadn’t paid attention to her those few days she had been in the pack, it meant that he hadn’t even realised that she would be close to her rut. Perhaps, this wolf that was destined for her would not be what she had asked the moon goddess for so much.
He would be her wolf forever, but not the man she longed for. She loved him madly, but it would not be a relationship of intense love. And now, she would have to spend her first rut in confinement so as not to make a fool of herself in front of everyone.
-I’ll be there!
[…]-So that’s the end of it. Everyone knows what he has to do.
-Yes, sir.
Bardas nods, and orders everyone to retire to their duties. The sun was about to set, and he was finally done for the day. But that he was pretending to be fine was just a lie.
Inside, he was freaking out. Adara’s scent was growing stronger by the day. Her moon’s rut was near, giving her a day or two. And while that for many wolves was a blessing, for him it was a big problem.
His inner wolf was so restless, his wild side was about to explode. He didn’t know how much longer he was going to hold back to avoid Adara, he knew she was going to see him quite often. But he suspected that if he hung out with her, he might do something he would regret later.
.
He was so frustrated that he couldn’t treat her the way he wanted to. He just had to meet her when he was approaching his first heat, it was unbelievable! Now he had to do everything in his power to avoid her.
After waiting for her for so long, now it turns out that to protect his virtue he needed to be away from his moon.
He says to himself as he walks to the house, but he knew she was there. How the f**k was he going to sleep under the same roof as her?
The prince walks at a slow pace to his moon’s home, but thinking of a way to avoid her and not hurt her feelings. The last thing he wanted was to make her feel bad, or to make her feel that he was rejecting her, because that was not the case.
Bardas observes Adara’s residence and takes a deep breath, she was inside. He could smell her, he took a deep breath; that scent was so pleasurable that it kept his wild instinct at its peak.
-Goddess of the moon, give me strength to keep the savage inside me calm.
He was the future alpha king of all the herds, and he feared the first rut of his moon. Now that was absurd.
