The Fall Of Lucian
Chapter 20

Ethan sniffed the air for any sign of Lucian, but again he seemed to have disappeared. And with that snowstorm, it would be almost impossible to find him.

Since Lucian had become detectable to them, the hunt became a little easier. It was just that before they were not clear which way to go. But now that they knew where to find him, they would not come down that mountain without the heart and head of that wretch.

-I don’t smell anything, just ice, that bastard disappeared again,” Eren said as he reached his side.

-He can’t be far away, it’s because of the ice that we can’t find him.

-Well, but while he shows up, we have to find a place to rest. We’ve spent the day running from one place to another, we need to get our strength back”.There is a great storm coming, perhaps we should remain in our wolf form.”

-I agree with that, I don’t think we can take it in human form.

“We’ll take turns.”

Eren growls at his friend, and they both run towards a hillside where they had spotted some sort of cave among fallen branches and trees. At least that would protect them from the snow.

As soon as the alphas reached the spot, they surveyed the terrain. Lucian’s scent was nowhere to be seen, nor were there any footprints or any indication that he had passed that way.

-If he has left tracks, they will be covered in the morning by the snow that will fall tonight,” they said.

“I’m afraid so; however, when this storm passes we shall be able to detect him.”

“Ethan, you go first and rest. I’ll take the first watch.”

“No, when I feel tired I’ll call you. You go to sleep.”

Eren looked at his friend, and not wishing to start an argument, agreed to go to rest first. However, he would be on the lookout for any noise.

That night was so cold and so passable, the only sounds to be heard were the sound created by the breeze from the storm, the high branches of the pine trees swaying from side to side, and the noise of the occasional crawling animal.

In truth, it was too quiet for Ethan’s liking. He was lying on a huge rock. From where he was, he could better appreciate the terrain, at no time did he let his guard down.

He looked everywhere, every movement he detected making him more alert. Eren slept a few feet away, yet on many occasions he saw him perk up his ears.

He knew he was as restless as he was.

His inner wolf sensed Lucian was very close, he was almost certain he was stalking him, hiding like a crawling rat. He was just waiting for the right moment to strike; Ethan had come to his own conclusions…

Lucian would not attack them both together, he would attack them separately. He was no match for two powerful wolf dynasties. His inner wolf, though not carrying royal b***d, came from a breed that was not very common. For that reason, he was no ordinary alpha wolf.

Suddenly, the black wolf watches as a whirlpool begins to form a few miles from his post. Ethan sharpens his gaze and catches a glimpse of what was happening. Then the squall dissolves with nothing left of it.

The breeze was very strong, her entire body was covered in white flakes of snow. His black fur was almost visible, for that reason Ethan tried not to move much in his position, that natural camouflage gave him a certain advantage in the battle.

At that, a series of swirls began to form at the same distance as the previous one. Ethan detailed them carefully, but without moving. He only waited for a false move from Lucian to attack him.

The wolf braces himself, the whirlwinds grew thicker and whitish. Suddenly, something jumps out of the larger cyclone, and that’s when Ethan leaps straight at his prey with a loud growl as soon as he has it between his jaws.

Hearing the attack, Eren immediately jumps to his feet and runs to his friend. When he reaches his side, he notices what had happened.

-A decoy,” Eren utters.

-I know,” his friend replies, dropping the adult deer from between his teeth. “It’s trying to confuse us, I know it was close, I know it. I could feel it.”

-Me too, I couldn’t sleep at all. For a moment I felt his presence very close to the den.” – “He wanted me to get away from him.

“He wanted me to get away from you.”

“Yes, he wants to separate us.”

-He’s a cunning wolf, but he won’t be more than us. He is scared, that’s why he is trying to attack us separately”.

The wolves watch the bleeding deer, which was beginning to be covered by the snow. Perhaps if Ethan had moved further away from the den, Eren would have been attacked from behind by Lucian. Lucian was a treacherous wolf.

Lucian smiles mischievously, in his human form his scent was almost perceptible. It was the advantage he had with those two, and luckily, no one but him knew it. Lucian came out of hiding, he was behind Eren’s lair.

He walked several kilometres away from them until he came to a small frozen plain. It was a kind of lake that until not long ago had hardened completely. However, there were certain parts that were not yet frozen over.

Lucian’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

-This is the perfect place!

In the morning, before the sun had reached the blue moon lands, Bardas wakes up with the feeling that something is wrong. He gets out of bed as quickly as he can, and runs to Adara’s room.

-Adara? Are you awake already?

His moon doesn’t answer him, and the reason for his distress is that her scent has vanished from the house.

-Adara?

But nothing… so he was forced to enter her bedroom, but it was empty. Even her scent was so null in that room.

-Where is she?

After getting dressed, he went in search of her, he was already feeling desperate for not being able to find her… when he ran into JB, without thinking he asked him about her.

-Do you know where Adara is?

-What do you mean, where is she? Weren’t you two in the house?

She has disappeared, and her scent is becoming almost non-existent in the pack.

-We need to search for her immediately. I’ll organize a group of wolves to search the forest for her.

Bardas nodded, but continued to think that this was not normal. Adara was close to her rut, yesterday he could smell her from miles away, but not that morning. Something else was going on, he needed to find her or he would go mad.

Ria arrived at the huge room where Deisy was supposed to be sitting by now, but it was empty. The young brunette was surprised that her alpha wasn’t there as usual. She changed the direction of her steps and headed for the house.

After a couple of minutes, the young brunette found her alpha in his room. Looking out of the window.

-My alpha, what is wrong with you this morning?

-Something’s wrong with me, Ria.

-Are you ill?

-No, but something inside me has changed.

-My lady, what’s wrong?

The albino turns around, that morning she was wearing a beautiful sky blue dress. It was long enough for her tail to drag on the floor.

Deisy was the only alpha who dressed like a queen. With her hair as white as snow and pale complexion, she was the ice queen herself.

-Well, you know my history with my wolf destiny.

-Yes, the blue moon alpha is your wolf destiny.

-Something happened this morning that gave me the creeps,” Deisy sits on the edge of the window. I think I’m attracted to a man who isn’t Ethan.

Ria seems to look happy about the news, as many in the pack expected her to be attracted to another wolf. That way their alpha would be complete and have offspring.

-But that’s wonderful, my lady! -says the cheerful young woman, but Deisy’s expression was not one of joy.

-It is the human,” she replies coolly, “I am attracted to the human I have imprisoned in the dungeons.

The young woman’s eyes widen as she listens to her alpha’s revelation. For her to fall in love with a wolf who was not her mate was fine, it was acceptable under wolf law. If a she-wolf was rejected by her destined wolf, she had the right to make her life with another wolf.

But the story changed when it was a mere mortal, an ordinary human.

-Deisy, he’s a human. How could you let that happen? – At that moment, Ria is calling out to her, she only did it when the conversation was really important, “The pack will oppose that relationship, they expect you to have wolf pups,” the chestnut kneels before her.

-I know that, it’s very clear to me,” the albino closes her eyes.

She felt so frustrated and dejected by what she was feeling. She didn’t want to let anyone down, but there was also the part of her feelings, didn’t they count?

-I couldn’t send it, it all happened so fast.

-The first time I saw him I felt a bit strange, it was as if the layer of ice on my heart started to melt, and then, yesterday when he kissed me….

-He kissed you? -exclaims the horrified young woman.

Deisy told the story with her eyes closed.

-I realised that I was attracted to that human,” she finished.

-That’s why he hurt his wound again!

-I pushed him away,” she opens her eyes, “but when he kissed me, I felt a kind of emotion I’ve never experienced before, not even when I kissed Ethan for the first and only time.

Ria notices so much sadness in her alpha’s gaze, I felt a little sorry for her. She was an adult she-wolf, who had gone through two jealousies on her own. He remembered what he had to do to help her deal with her jealousy.

Once, he had to lock her in the basement of the house so she wouldn’t run to Ethan. It made him very sad to know that his alpha, being so good and so beautiful, was not reciprocated.

She still couldn’t explain why the moon goddess would put her alpha through such calamities. She only wanted to be loved, to have a family and to have a good man by her side in her lonely nights.

-My lady, do you know what that means?

-Yes,” she lowers her gaze, “I have fallen in love with that human, I know that is what has happened to me,” she adds, rising to her feet.

-And what do you plan to do with the human? -Ria looks up from the ground.

-I thought about sending him to the castle, but I can’t do that, my own self prevents me from doing it. I want him here.

She answers firmly.

Even though she was acting against the law, Deisy didn’t want to get rid of the human. Her whole body was crying out for him, how on earth could she send him away to a man she was so attracted to?

It was unfair what was happening to her, she always asked for a real love and only unfortunate and forbidden men came to her. Now it was between the wolf laws or her heart.
