The Headmaster Alpha's Mate
The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 86

Chloe’s heart felt like it had been ripped in two, as she walked towards the cell that held the man who proclaimed to be her father, who, according to his own testimony, had done all of this to protect her from the big bad wolf that resided within her. Sheba was heartbroken, as she whimpered softly inside Chloe, unable to speak due to the feeling of loss she was experiencing. Revenge weighed heavy on Chloe’s shoulders, as she turned and looked at Zander. His face was slightly ashen and she knew, even though he would have preferred them to wait for Chloe to be older to have pups, he was just as devastated about their loss as she was.

Zander watched on as Chloe squared her shoulders, a show of strength in a time of weakness, his grief threatening to overwhelm him, but he could not afford to break down and cry, not when his beautiful mate was being so brave. Caesar was devastated at the loss of their pup, even though they did not know about the little one, the pain in his heart could not be any worse than if they had known Chloe was pregnant. Zander wanted to comfort his princess, yet he knew that nothing could take away the pain they both were experiencing, it was akin to being given the greatest gift, only to have it snatched away before you could ever take hold of it. The sense of loss was overpowering. He wanted more than anything for someone to pay for what had happened, in the most painful and gruesome way possible.

As they entered the secure area, Chloe took a deep breath, to calm her fractured emotions down, she needed to have her wits about her, she could not afford to give into the rage that was pulsing through her body. The old saying, revenge is a dish best served cold, kept playing in her mind.

Holding tightly to Zander’s hand, she turned and looked at him.

“I love you,but I cannot deal with your grief and my own right now, so I am going to put up a block, just so I can get through this.” Chloe explained.

Zander gave a curt nod as a response, as he tried not to feel rejected by his mate. This was a time for them to pull together, not be separated, but he understood, she needed to do what she needed to do in order to get through the next few days.

As the cell door opened, Chloe saw the man who she had called Dad, sitting in the center of the room on a small three-legged wooden stool, his face covered in bruises, he looked to have lost weight, his eyes were blank as he stared at the floor. She waited to feel pity for him, but it did not come. All she could feel was anger, and the need for vengeance, bubbling up inside of her. She placed her hand on her lower stomach, and whispered softly.

” For you little one.” Then she walked and stood directly in front of the broken man.

“Kill me, Chloe.” The man she had once called Dad begged. He did not even look up at her, and another wave of rage hit her.

“You do not get to decide your future, because you have stolen mine.” Chloe hissed out.

“I did it to protect you, we were misled.” Brian sighed out, tired of trying to explain his reasons to people who could never understand the choice he felt forced to make, after all, who would want their child to be a werewolf, let alone being in danger just because of their existence and b***d line.

“Do not talk shite, you did it because you wanted me to be human again, you did it to stop me from fulfilling my destiny, you did it because you are a selfish pig, who did not even bother to ask me what the f**k I wanted.” Chloe shouted out.

Brian lifted his face up to look at Chloe.

“You are eighteen years old, you do not know what you want, you are far too young.” he shouted back at her.

“Yet old enough to be classed as an adult by law, so guess what, your argument is invalid.” Chloe gritted back to him.

“If we lived in America, the age is twenty-one!” Brian tried to justify himself.

“But we don’t. We are British, and proud to be so, and we live with British law, which states I am old enough to drink, old enough to marry without your consent, and old enough to make my own choices.” Chloe growled back.

“You think because you are older than me you made the correct decision, your choice killed your wife, and MY BABY!” Chloe screamed at him, tears streaming down her face.

“What, he knocked you up!” Brian cried out, glaring at Zander.

“Don’t you f*****g dare, if my wolf had not forced her heat, I would be dead, along with your wife, but the silver I was poisoned with killed my child.” Chloe reached out and grabbed Zander’s hand, then realized, she was not alone in this, and lifted her emotional block that she had in place, she wanted him, no, needed him, they were together in all things, and she understood in that moment the block was a mistake, as Zander’s pain swept through her.

“No, you killed OUR PUP, OUR BABY, a child that would have called you Granddad, and your wife Nana or Grandma, but now it is dead, in my womb, waiting to be taken from my body. YOU DID THAT!” Chloe screamed out, hot tears streaming down her face, as Zander let his own tears flow.

“Chloe, maybe it was for the best. You are too young to be a mother, too young to be throwing your life away tied to a man, it was for the best, this is for the best.” Brian said. Shaking his head.

Instantly, both Chloe and Zander growled in unison. Chloe could feel Sheba trying to shift, and saw the black eyes of Caesar as her wolf mate, also, began trying to force himself out, wanting to rip the man’s head from his shoulders.

Chloe threw herself into Zander’s arms, attempting to calm him, as she tried to calm Sheba.

“No, this is what he wants, to die, to rid himself of the pain and the blame. I will not give him what he wants.” Chloe linked with Zander, talking to him, Caeser and Sheba, wanting them all to calm down. Zander’s eyes began to return to their normal color, as Sheba also halted her forced shift. Taking a breath, Chloe stepped away from Zander and walked towards Brian.

“I will not kill you.” she whispered.

“You will live with the consequences of the choices you have made. You will bare the burden of knowing your choices killed your wife and my child.” Chloe continued.

“SET HIM FREE.” Chloe shouted to the guard, who looked at Zander before walking to Brian to remove his restraints.

Zander looked at Chloe, and saw determination in her face, and nodded his approval to the guard.

“Go get him some money, enough for some food, until he can make his way to a bank, then escort him by foot to the pack boarder and let him go.” Chloe continued, then looked at Brian once more.

“I chose to forgive you. Not because you deserve it, but because I do not want to live with hatred and loathing in my heart. Because I deserve peace to reside within me, so I have made a choice. I chose to forgive you, and set you and me free from all of the pain.”

Brian looked into Chloe’s eyes as she repeated over and over that she chose to forgive him, the words felt like hot coals being placed on his head, as she continued to repeat them, convincing herself and those around her that she meant the forgiveness she was bestowing upon him. The words were crushing his soul, and he felt small and insignificant under the weight of her forgiveness.

Zander looked on in wonder at his mate. She was liberating herself by forgiving the person who had caused her so much pain, and he chose to follow her example.

“I also chose to forgive you,” Zander began to say, repeating the words just as Chloe did.

The more the mates spoke forgiveness the more peace they felt in their hearts, the pain of loss was still there, but the anger was leaving them, giving them room to grieve for their lost child, leaving space in their hearts to love each other more, and their child who had been cruelly taken from them more, and even in death, their pup deserved all the love in the world.

The guard arrived with a bag of pound coins, and passed it to Brian Hancock. Then, as he begged once more to be killed, he was led towards the door of the cell.

“Brian, I chose to forgive you, and followed my mate’s example. But know this, although you have our forgiveness, you will never come here again, nor will you ever see my mate or I again. We forgive you, but do not think that gives you the right to do anything like this again. Go, find your peace, know that you are forgiven, but never return to these lands.” Zander commanded him, as for all he and Chloe needed to grant forgiveness for their own mental well being, he did not trust this man to not try something again.

Zander picked up a sobbing Chloe in his arms and carried her bridal style from the prison area, up the stairs and into the pack house, Nicki looked at her friend, and went to rush over, but Zander’s tear-stained face stopped her mid run, as Josh held on to her, his own eyes filling with tears as he placed a protective hand over her stomach, his eyes never leaving his brother and sister in-law, as Zander linked him about what had happened.

Robin and Lacey watched on, tears in their eyes, as Nicki looked between them all confused.

“Chloe was pregnant, she has lost the pup due to silver poisoning.” Josh whispered softly into his mate’s ear.

Nicki gasped and placed her hands over her mouth as her heart broke for her best friend.

“What can we do to help?” she sobbed out, then instinctively placed her hand over Joshua’s as if to protect her own child.

Lacey walked over and placed a hand on Nicki’s back.

“Give them space, time, and a whole lot of love.” she whispered softly to Nicki.

The wolves in the pack house all watched on, as Zander carried Chloe up the stairs, the loss of the Alpha and Luna’s pup was felt by all, and the pack were united in grief.

Caroline lay in her hospital bed, as she felt the grief of the pack hit her like a tidal wave. She turned to Cheryl, and looked at her.

“What is happening?” her voice softly asked, as she saw Ellie and Tom both with tears in their eyes.

“Chloe was pregnant, but they lost the pup because of silver poisoning. They found out this afternoon.” Cheryl gently told Caroline.

Caroline let out a loud sob, then for the first time since her mate’s rejection she got out of bed, and walked towards her children, gathering them into her arms, and holding them close.

“I am sorry, I am so sorry, I love you both so much.” she whispered, as her heart both repaired from the damage her mate had caused, but then broke again for the loss of her Alpha and Luna’s pup. However, she felt a renewed strength, as through the pack’s united heartache, she arose like a phoenix from the ashes with a renewed determination to get well, and be the mother her pups deserved, as she became more thankful and felt the blessing that she had them in her life.

Brian walked away from The Crescent Moon Pack, as the guard escorted him over the boarder before leaving him to his fate. Sitting down at the base of a tree, he looked at the small bag of money. The irony was not lost on him, that the guard had given him thirty individual pound coins. He was not a brave man, and he looked up at the overhanging branches of the tree, then down at the belt that held up his trousers, and made a choice to be forever a coward, and never face up to the responsibilities of his actions..
