The Luna's Pure Heart -
The Luna’s Pure Heart – Chapter 70
(Damion pov)
I stood up straight, looking towards Eleanor with wide eyes as I anxiously watched her walk to the door. She looked back at me one last time, smiling softly as she nodded her head.
‘Just be yourself baby.’
Her voice filled my mind and then I heard the door open. What happened next was all a confusing blur of hugging and crying. Then turned to laughing while talking which resulted in a lot of indecipherable words.
“Your hair!! Oh my goddess it is truly incredible.” The woman said with awe, who I was pretty sure had to be Helen, considering Eleanor sobbed out her name a few times.
She touched Eleanor’s hair, examining it carefully and for a moment I wondered what Eleanor looked like before her hair changed. It’s hard to imagine her looking like anything else but this. But I know deep down I would love any version of Eleanor.
Even though this was all new to me, I couldn’t help but smile as I watched the woman I love reunite with her friend because I could feel Eleanor’s bubbling happiness and that alone made me feel more at ease.
Helen was smaller than I pictured, her dark hair was pulled up into a bun and she wore jeans with a light blue T-shirt. She was short but a few inches taller than my mate. She looked to be in her late thirties and had a natural elegance to her.
“Don’t you ever do something like that again to me Elle, I swear.” She said in a threatening, yet loving tone.
“I won’t I promise.” Eleanor laughed, wiping her tears as I tried to give these two women their privacy. Maybe I should step out for a moment so they have time to chat.
As if Eleanor could read my thoughts, she glanced back toward me, like she suddenly remembered I was here. Helen followed her gaze, her hands holding Eleanor’s arm protectively as she was now looking at me.
I decided to make the first move, I stepped forward, extending my hand as Eleanor smiled encouragingly.
“Helen, this is my mate, Damion Steele.” Eleanor’s words were soft like she didn’t want to startle either one of us.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, I have heard so much about you.” I tried to be kind and endearing, but it was hard to tell how it came across.
I reached my hand out and she looked at it with a blank expression on her face.
“King Damion, I have also heard a lot about you, not so nice things I might add.” She said cooly, taking my hand as she shook it firmly. I was stunned, to say the least.
“Helen!” Eleanor gasped, looking at her friend in shock.
“Well, I think it’s important we start this conversation with being open and honest with one another. Don’t you agree King Damion?” She asked me while raising her eyebrow. I just nodded my head as I felt Eleanor suddenly by my waist, wrapping her arms around me.
“Helen, those things you have heard are all false.” Eleanor spoke seriously, peering up at me as she gave me her signature warm and loving smile. Making me let out a slow deep breath as I met Helen’s hard gaze.
“I will answer any questions or doubts you may have.” I truly had nothing to hide, I just hope she believes that.
Helen looked between me and Eleanor, and I swear I saw a hint of a smile trying to pull at the corner of her mouth.
“Okay then, let’s start with this..I wanted to ask how you felt being mated with an omega first off. I can’t imagine the Elders and council were too thrilled about that.” Helen walked over to the couch that was on the other side of the room. She quickly swooped her hand out, motioning for us to join her.
‘Baby, if this is too much we don’t have to do this..really.’
Eleanor linked worriedly and I shook my head no.
‘I want you to hear these questions too. I want to explain everything and show how much I truly love you.’
I squeezed her hand, pulling her along with me as I sat down across from Helen. This was definitely not the first time my character had been under question. With the rumors my uncle has spread a lot of people believe them and see me as someone worse than my father. Usually, it doesn’t bother me because I am used to it, but for some reason right now..I wished it wasn’t the case.
“Well, to answer your question honestly, I didn’t care that Eleanor was an omega..in fact, it didn’t matter to me because I honestly didn’t want a mate to begin with..” I began speaking, watching as Helen’s eyes widened from my unfiltered honestly.
“You didn’t want a mate? Then why did you accept her?” She cut in, not letting me finish my sentence.
“Well, when I say I didn’t want a mate, it’s true..because I never thought I deserved a mate. I saw no benefit of it because, at the time of meeting Eleanor, I had lost what my purpose was in this world. I thought I was meant to make up for my father’s mistakes and have nothing else in life..so I pushed the idea away. That was until I truly met my mate..” I looked over at Eleanor, seeing her eyes fill with tears as I placed my hand on hers.
“This woman was what made me want a mate, and I didn’t care if she was an omega, from Alpha b***d, or even the fact that she is a blessed wolf. I just wanted her..and as for the elders, their opinions are biased and based off of power and manipulation, so honestly I don’t give a s**t about what they think..pardon my language.” I finished, looking over at Helen once more, and noticed her mouth had dropped open as she stared at me in complete shock.
“What about your previous mate? The woman you killed because she wasn’t worthy to be queen?” She quickly composed herself, throwing another question my way.
“That woman was a deceitful act sent by an enemy to try and gain control. She was not my true mate..and do you honestly believe the moon goddess would bless me with another mate if I killed my first for so little reason?” This rumor never really bothered me, because it made people get off of my back about asking if I found my mate yet. So I just let them think what they wanted, even though it wasn’t true.
“Oh goddess..I guess most of the rumors are false then.” Helen mumbled, and I soon noticed Eleanor was smiling and nodding her head.
“Helen, I know Eleanor hasn’t lived the easiest of lives, and yet she is one of the kindest most forgiving people I have ever met..I have a feeling it has something to do with you helping to raise her..I just want to give you my word, I know with all the rumors there are doubts in your mind. But please, give me a chance to prove them all wrong..not only as Eleanor’s mate but as the king of this realm..I realized since meeting Eleanor, it’s time I start to show people who I really am..and I know with a Queen like Eleanor by my side, the realm will only prosper in the end.” I said my little speech, feeling like I had to get it all out..that I needed Helen to just give me a chance to show my love for Eleanor.
Helen leaned back into the couch, letting out a big sigh as a smile finally began creeping on her face.
“Your mom always knew you were destined for something greater..but this, oh Elle, she would be so proud.” Helen reached forward, grabbing Eleanor’s hand as she squeezed it lovingly and I now was able to relax..I think we all were. The air seemed lighter and just easier to breathe.
“But Eleanor, there is one more thing..” Helen started, and I noticed Eleanor shrink down slightly like she was about to get in trouble.
“You were the one that hid the identity of your mate from us, and this man was the one honest about it..so I do give him credit for that. But please, never keep things like that from us again..even if you wanted everyone to meet him for ourselves..that’s a pretty damn big secret!” She shook Eleanor’s hand, making her laugh as Helen then pulled her in for a hug.
I honestly didn’t even know she didn’t tell them who I was when I spilled the beans, I was just trying to set up the meeting..but I’m glad being honest worked in my favor. I will take what I can get at this point.
“So everything is good now?” Eleanor asked sheepishly, pulling back to look at Helen’s face.
“Yes, everything is good, well it better damn well be because he is the king after all..” she muttered and Eleanor tackled her into a hug once more and I couldn’t help but laugh. After a few more minutes of chatter, Eleanor stood up and turned to us.
“I’m going to run to the bathroom really quick. Be right back.” Eleanor said swiftly, kissing me on the cheek and running to the restroom.
Now it was just me and Helen..I wanted to tell her how much Eleanor really meant to me, to show her that I wasn’t just saying it in front of Eleanor to make a good impression but before I could speak, she beat me to it.
“Sorry King Damion, for thinking the worst of you..but you will understand one day when you have kids..well in my case, raise them. You just want the best for them, but I can see now that Eleanor is the happiest I have ever seen her..she has her light back, and I guess we have you to thank for that.” She spoke gently, her honey-brown eyes now warm and full of emotion as I nodded my head.
“Well, to be fair, she has brought that light into my life for the first time ever..so I guess it goes both ways.” I laughed softly, thinking of my Bunny and the light she brings me.
“I guess that’s what true love does for ya. But, there is something I wanted to speak to you about..I’m sure she has mentioned Zach before?” she asked nervously. Oh goddess..I had almost forgot about the kid..great.
“Yes, she told me about their..history.” It was hard not to growl out the last word..I’m trying my hardest..truly.
“You just have to understand he is a good kid, obviously what they had doesn’t even skim the surface of what you have now..but to Zach it’s still fresh..I don’t want to overstep..but please just be understanding of that. Elle isn’t the kind of girl to entertain it..we both know that, but they were friends for a long time..and hopefully, he meets his mate soon..” she trailed off..and all I could do was nod..
“I understand, but I draw the line of them being alone together. Just..for my own sanity..I’m sure you could see my side of things on that.” I hoped she could anyway, especially lately..just the mere idea..I felt Titus’s hair rising on the back of his neck. But I had to give him credit for not snapping from the mere mention of his name. Is he growing too?!
“Oh, of course, I agree with you on that, just group settings is all I was thinking of. Honestly, I always wanted the best for our Elle, and I guess the Moon Goddess had the same thing in mind.” She smiled and I was taken aback. Was that a true and genuine compliment? Maybe I’m better at winning over the parent type than I thought.
“Sorry, I’m back.” Eleanor came walking back in and plopped onto the couch next to me.
“What did I miss?” She asked curiously, looking between us as Helen waved her hand in the air.
“Oh you know, just telling him about the time when you were twelve and accidentally caught the kitchen on fire.” Helen teased and my head whipped to Eleanor.
“You caught the kitchen on fire?!” I laughed, her cheeks burning red as she was now glaring at Helen.
“It was one kitchen towel..then maybe a couple of curtains..but we put it out in time! Don’t you have to go get ready for lunch or something? We don’t need to talk about this right now..” Eleanor said dismissively and me and Helen broke out in laughter.
“No, I am really interested in hearing about this.” I teased her and she pouted while crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“Great..why am I regretting introducing you two now..your just going to team up and torture me..” she grumbled..but I could see her smile. I could feel her relief and quite honestly..I felt damn relieved too.
“Oh there are a lot of things we have to talk about, have you found out how hard it is to wake her up yet?” Helen chimed in, making me jump up slightly and point my finger at her.
“Yes! She was like that before as well?” I couldn’t believe this was a life long trait many have had to suffer through.
“More like since the moment she was born, she made her mom wait an extra week just to come out. Stubborn thing from the start..but her mother, Gina, was always doting on her and not making it much better.” Helen mumbled and I saw Eleanor perk up from the mere mention of her mother. She never really speaks about her parents much and I never wanted to bring them up in case if it was a sore subject.
“Well, I’m glad to know it’s not personal at least.” I grumbled, earning an elbow in the ribs from Eleanor.
“Do I need to start on the things that you two do that you might not want others to know about? Hmm?” Eleanor threatened. Helen and I both shook our heads vehemently..definitely don’t want that stuff going around..
We sat and talked a little while longer, Helen was pretty easygoing once she opened up, it was nice to spend this time with her and see another side to Eleanor. I guess there is more to learn about her and I honestly can’t wait..I have a feeling Lance is going to get his a*s handed to him by Helen, and oddly that makes me very excited. He needs someone to put him in his place now and then.
I guess this went as well as it could of, now just to meet the rest of them and entertain the Alpha for a few days. I can’t lie though, a part of me misses being back at the castle with Eleanor and having her all to myself..I know, selfish of me..but can you blame me when I have a mate literally blessed by the moon goddess..in all ways imaginable. Soon enough though, now just to get through this lunch next..I have a feeling that Zach guy is going to be an even bigger problem than I first thought..Titus will have to be on his best behavior..if that’s even possible..let’s hope so, for Zach’s sake.
