The Luna's Pure Heart
The Luna’s Pure Heart – Chapter 78

(Eleanor pov)

It’s so weird being back here, hearing the changes Alpha Prescott had made was almost unbelievable. Could it really be that easy? I remember when he was the Beta, he definitely wasn’t as bad as Alpha Richards but he didn’t stand up for us or try to help either. I was curious to see if Malcolm would have taken over and pushed his father to the side but it seems Alpha Prescott has stepped up and is trying to make a real change.

But it didn’t surprise me at all that Malcolm was still his cocky self. I honestly just ignore him because he is so ridiculous and delusional but with the way he spoke about me, I knew Damion wouldn’t stand for it. I can’t lie..I enjoyed every single second of it. Seeing my mate stand up for me and put Malcolm in his place it was hard not to smile and show just how happy it made me.

But the thing that is really bothering me..Lucy..seeing her coming in carrying that tray and then having dropped it as soon as she laid eyes on me. Seeing her at all, it brought mixed emotions. It was nice to know she didn’t get punished by death..but on the other hand that betrayal was something that could have cost everyone their lives.

We thought of her as our family..as one of us and someone we would have been willing to risk everything for. I guess she didn’t feel the same way..who knows though if she never told Malcolm about us, I would have never met Damion. I guess in a way, everything that happened brought me to this moment. So I can’t stay bitter about it..I guess I just wish she would have left with us because now I wonder what kind of life she has.

After the Luna calmed down and they apologized profusely for Malcolm’s behavior, we all went to the dining room to eat. Now that was surreal..the same dining room my food was brought to, I was now sitting here waiting to be served.

Pierce stood in the corner of the room, his eyes looking straight ahead but I knew he was watching everything intently.

‘After checking out the omega quarters we will leave to head home okay Darling?’

Damion informed me and I squeezed his hand under the table, the feeling of hunger starting to consume me. Dang, this little pup is already making me hungry like crazy. I was borderline starving right now and I was doing my best not to be short with the Lunas persistent talking.

I don’t even know what she is talking about..some type of sofa swatches for the omegas housing or something.

“We would like to have a tour of the omegas quarters and the housing community before we leave.” Damion interrupted the Luna and she nodded eagerly.

“Oh, of course, my King, we were looking forward to showing our improvements.” She quickly retorted. I honestly didn’t know much about the Beta’s wife before all of this. She definitely wasn’t as bad as the former Luna, but I knew they were close friends.

I would hear some of the omegas make comments about her being picky, but I feel like everyone I dealt with was picky that had grown up in this type of luxurious lifestyle.

Just then the doors opened and in came the servers carrying large platters of food. Excitement filled me as the aromas swirled through the air, making my stomach growl from anticipation. I can’t wait to finally eat..

‘Is our pup hungry?’

Damion linked with humor filling his voice, having heard my stomach growl. He discreetly reached down, placing his hand on my abdomen as I couldn’t hide the smile that formed from his sweet gesture.

‘He is starving.’

I responded, making his eyes widen.

‘He? You think it will be a boy?’

He looked at me curiously and I nodded my head softly.

‘I just have a feeling, what about you?’

I asked curiously, watching as more servers came into the room.

‘Just a healthy pup is good enough for me..but if I went by gut feelings, I say my Bunny is always right.’

He smiled brightly at me and I couldn’t help but chuckle. I guess that’s the safest answer I have ever heard. Suddenly looking up, I noticed Lucy as she walked around the table, her eyes darting toward me as she placed a plate of vegetables in the center.

She looked pretty much the same but her eyes looked sad and almost lifeless. I looked away, not wanting to start anything during our meal. I had a feeling she will want to talk before I leave. Maybe it will help this knot that formed in my stomach since the moment I saw her.

The other servers that trickled in were a younger man and woman I had never seen before and I wondered for a moment who the head chef was. It seems like Lucy still works in the kitchen. Did she choose that or was she still assigned to work there?

She looked back one last time before exiting the room and Damion quickly began piling food onto my place. I looked down eagerly at the roasted vegetables and chicken breast that had some type of brown reduction sauce on it. After he added the potatoes I began digging in. Oh my goddess..this is amazing. I was so hungry, I don’t think I have ever felt a hunger like this in my life.

I noticed Damion was watching me adamantly as I quickly cleared the plate in record time.

The Alpha and Luna looked at me with wide eyes as I cleared my throat while dabbing my mouth with my napkin.

“The food is amazing, thank you for having us for lunch.” I spoke softly as Damion began piling more onto my plate.

‘My Bunny needs to eat a lot more for our growing pup.’

He winked at me, the action making my cheeks redden as I reached for my glass of water and took a long drink, trying to compose myself from the effects of my ‘too handsome for his own good’ mate.

“Well we are honored to have you here, please, never hesitate to come back and visit whenever you like.” Alpha Prescott added, I could feel his offer was genuine and coming from the right place..but there was nothing left for me here, that’s for sure. River Rock felt more familiar than this place ever did and I spent only three days there.

We all made small talk as Damion continued to pile my plate high..by the fourth plate I was done..I had never eaten so much food in my life. I guess just being a werewolf and now having a growing pup inside of me will burn up a lot more energy than I thought.

“Well, shall we see the housing?” Alpha Prescott asked after everyone was done eating.

“Yes, then my Queen and I will take our leave afterward.” Damion informed them, and I was so ready to head home. I miss my bed..and my constant cuddles..and Jane’s delicious cooking. Even though I couldn’t eat another bite and this was really good..they have nothing on Jane.

Damion placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me out towards the hallway with Pierce close behind.

“Where would you like to see first?” The Alpha asked and my eyes were instantly drawn to the basement.

“Can we see the remodeled basement first please?” I asked curiously, wanting to see how much has changed..if anything at all. I had lived down in that basement for ten years. It was my home all that time so it’s hard to imagine something new.

“Yes, I believe the omega who live there are still working currently.” The Luna informed us and I nodded my head.

We walked towards the basement and I was surprised to see a new door with a window built in. On the side of the door was a small button panel with buzzers and names below them.

Alpha Prescott shuffled around in his pocket for a set of keys and then opened the front door swiftly.

“There are only two master keys, one I always carry and the other my Beta. It’s just for emergency purposes, we never want to invade anyone’s privacy.” He suddenly explained and I nodded my head. I felt like there were really trying to drive the point home that the omega have choices and freedom now.

They can say all they like but I won’t believe it until I see it with my own eyes.

Alpha Prescott opened the door and we began the descent down the stairs. Once we reached the bottom, instead of being met with the large open space we had before, there were now three doors. I noticed one of the names on the side of the door was Lucy. I guess she decided to stay in the basement.

Of course, Alpha Prescott chose that room to look into first…

He pulled open the door and Lucy’s scent slammed into me, causing memories of all the times we spent together to flash through me. She honestly was always like an older cooler sister to me. Lucy was a firecracker and I remember one time when I snuck upstairs for her, it was the night of her birthday. She said she just wanted to have a beer, that was her only wish. I thought it was silly but she was turning twenty-three and she told me her dad would always drink a cool beer on his birthday as a tradition. At the time I was sixteen and I wanted to surprise her, I knew it would mean a lot to her so I decided to go up and sneak into the Alpha’s stash. Well stupid me was caught instantly and the Alpha said I would be punished with lashings..Then Lucy came out of nowhere and told the Alpha she told me to do it and I was just following her orders..she took those lashes for me..every single one..and on her birthday. I cried so hard for her but she said that just having someone who cared enough to do something like that for her was the best gift she ever received. That’s how close we all were..we each had a history together..that’s why this betrayal hurt so bad.

‘You okay Darling?’

Damion asked softly into the link and I smiled half-heartedly.

‘Yeah, this..this is just where I used to live with everyone.’

I admitted and he reached out, squeezing my hand.

We walked deeper into Lucy’s room and it did look like a legit apartment. It had a small kitchen area and all the appliances and furniture were new. I guess they really were making the changes that they said. Suddenly I stopped in my tracks, my eyes being drawn to a small desk where miscellaneous items were left.

Walking over to the desk, I noticed a few of my things that I left. My hairbrush and my favorite book, then I recognized a few other items as the rest of the groups. It’s like she kept our stuff, as a memento.. I bit my l*p anxiously, feeling the tears welling up inside of me..ugh not now, stupid pregnancy hormones!

I tried to focus on the Luna as she explained their remodeling process and how they want everyone to feel like they have their own home or something. It was hard to pay attention when Lucy’s scent kept surrounding me.

Damion must have felt my internal turmoil because he pulled me into him, pressing my face to his chest as I wrapped my arms around his waist and breathed him in deeply. It was a very intimate hug, but I didn’t care if anyone else saw it..I needed my mate. This was a lot more to take in than I realized.

“Why don’t we show you the outside housing we have added recently.” Alpha Prescott said softly. I don’t know if he realized I used to live down here or not but he seemed to have picked up on my mood swing.

“That would be great, thank you.” I spoke softly, letting Damion lead me toward the door as we left Lucy’s room. I looked back one last time, hoping she is at least happier here now.

We walked towards the outside and I couldn’t help but let out an exasperated sigh when I saw who was waiting for us by the door. His arm was wrapped up and he had bruising on his neck. His wrist looked reset though and I knew by the look in his eyes that we were nowhere close to being done with what he started. Malcolm Prescott looked as determined as ever..Maybe we should just leave now..because I have a feeling this will not end well..
