The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 26

Avalyn's

POV

A heavy knock came upon my door and I raised my eyes lazily from my book to go see who it was. A smile filled my face as I saw who it was. "Greg, is everything okay?" I asked.

He looked flushed in the face and his shoulders were tensed as he had just finished practice or maybe a fight. Did something happen with the visitors?

Dawn had mentioned some important visitors were coming to the palace and I had to stay locked up in my room for my safety and the King. I understood that they didn't want other people to know that their King had a breeder. This would make their Luna look weak and I couldn't understand how bad that was.

"Yes, Avalyn. I just wanted to make sure you had everything you needed for the rest of the night," he said.

"Yes I have everything I need, thank you for checking," I replied with a sweet smile.

The look on his face softened and I saw concern litter his eyes as he took a deep breath, "This is out of concern for your safety, I hope you understand?"

"You don't need to explain, I completely understand," I assured him. "And don't worry, I'll try to avoid getting in the way."

He gave me a quick smile and said, "Well then, in that case, have a good night."

I smiled at him and watched as he walked away before I locked the door and returned to my book. Thoughts about the visitors and how they kept everyone on edge flooded my brain till I fell asleep with the book in my hands. Morning came sooner than I expected and since I had nothing to do, I picked up the book again.

The day went on slowly and I soon found myself swallowed in the world of the second book.

A long sigh escaped my lips as I put down the second book I had finished in just the span of one day. Yesterday, Talon's visitors arrived on pack grounds, and I was getting bored being cooped up in my room. It was frustrating, really.

Greg had told me that it was for my own safety, but I knew he was just trying to be nice. I was bought, and I only had one purpose for Talon and Willow. Just because Greg tried his best to provide me privacy didn't mean that I was much more different from a prisoner -I had no right to question what was arranged for me. However, the more time I spent scooped up in my room, the more I tended to forget that.

I craved communication with someone other than my own thoughts. Of course, Dawn and Greg took turns checking in on me, but I wanted more-

Yes, I was hopelessly missing Talon. His intoxicating scent, the gentle caress of his hands...

God, I was being ridiculous.

Talon was mated. My face turned red and I rolled my eyes at my internal dilemma. I laid back on the bed and stared at the ceiling above, unsure of what to do next.

I could hear the sounds of music from below, it seemed like the crowd was having fun. Who would associate Southern Ridge pack with the word 'fun?' At least, I wouldn't have believed that until I had really gotten to know them.

I could hear young women's giggles and laughter through my open window. Was Talon being entertained by other women? And would he smile at them? He probably wouldn't but what if he would?

I had never seen his smile, and I couldn't imagine that. What was more, the thought that other women could make him smile really upset me?

'What's wrong with you Avalyn?' I berated myself.

'He has a wife, of course, he wouldn't smile at other women with Willow there. You're a simple breeder. Know your place!'

However, scolding myself didn't make me feel any better. In fact, it made me... jealous? To a point where I almost didn't recognize the feeling.

The sun had long before the set, and I could see the glorious bright full moon above. I remembered Mrs. Jacobson had said in class once or twice how werewolves liked to shift and run in groups during full moons as a way to show unity between packs, it seemed to be something Talon and his pack members did, as I'd heard Dawn talk about it on more than one occasion.

I really wished I could one day get the chance to witness it from a distance as they took off into a mass of fur while the sounds of their howls filled the night sky.

"I wish I was out there..." I whispered to myself, wrapping the fur blanket around my body tighter as I smiled up at the moon. I couldn't help the soft sound of a song that left my lips, the words slowly left my lips as I stared into the night sky.

As I thought about everything that had transpired between me and Talon, the feelings that were growing inside me scared me to my core. I wasn't even upset by the restricted freedom, I just felt really lonely. At least tomorrow, I would be let out on a walk around the palace.

All of a sudden, a sound from outside the window drew my attention. I slid from my bed and moved towards the open window. The room I was in was three storeys high above the ground, but still, the noise startled me. I stared down, trying to see what was there, my long hair slipping over my shoulders in long waves as I peered into the darkness.

What was it? Was there someone watching me?

The fear had started to settle over me, reminding me of what my first meeting with Talon had been like when a black cat darted from the space below me and toward the corner of the building. A sigh of relief and a small chuckle left my lips as I realized I didn't have anything to worry about.

"Goodness, kitty! You startled me," I said. "Run along now, before the big bad wolves smell you out."

What the hell was wrong with me? So skittish that I was startled by something as sweet as a small kitten. 'Avalyn you sure are brave.' I thought rolling my eyes.

As I turned around and made my way toward my bed, however, the door to my room suddenly opened. I wasn't scared for the only people with a key to the room were Greg and Dawn.

My eyes widened as Talon's dark frame walked into the room, causing me to hold my breath.

Why was he here?

"Alpha..." I lowered my head awkwardly to greet him. I had noticed that every other person bowed as a way to show respect to Talon, so I figured I should do the same.

"Talon. Call me by my name." He commanded softly, eyes raking up and down my body.

Frozen to the spot, I watched him close the door behind him. I could hear my heart pounding louder and louder as he walked towards me. His steps were swift, and he closed the space between us in no time. He reached out a hand to run his fingers down my arm gingerly, leaving goose bumps in his trail. "What are you doing to me?" He mumbled, his brows furrowing as he stared at me intently.

I had no idea what he was going on about, my mind was still a mess and I didn't understand his question. When he brought his face closer to mine, I caught the scent of alcohol lingering on his breath -he was definitely drunk. Could werewolves even get drunk? That was a question I didn't know the answer to.

"Uhm... I-I don't understand." I stammered out, hoping he wouldn't get mad.

No matter how much my heart tried to convince me to trust this man that had taken my virginity, there was still that voice screaming in my brain to run. He was a Lycan king, the strongest and most feral of all his kind. I should be scared of him, we were taught in school to fear this man.

Talon sighed and walked over to my bed, slumping into it. He reached up one hand and gestured for me to join him.

I hesitated for a bit, but then I walked towards him and took a seat gingerly on the edge of the bed, making sure to leave a good amount of space between us.

The silence that took over the room was anything but comfortable, tension filled the air as we both sat quietly. It was he, however, that finally broke the silence.

"I will not kill you, Avalyn. After I get what I want from you. I'll set you free," he said, shocking me.

Those had been the words I'd been dying to hear since my arrival here. I'd had it in mind that after I had finished performing my task, Talon would get rid of me.

I was a human after all. They only needed me to bear a child. And hearing him utter those words shocked me to my core.

I stared at him wide-eyed as he got up from the bed, staggering a bit -confirming that he was definitely drunk. Without another word, he walked towards the door and opened it up, he glanced back at me for a second before walking out the door and slamming it shut.
