The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 37

Talon's POV

I watched as Greg wrapped the blue scarf Avalyn had given him around his neck as he walked towards the car, I scoffed at how ridiculous he looked. Blue was definitely not his colour.

I had noticed how close he'd been getting to Avalyn recently, and I couldn't help but feel bugged whenever I witnessed him lay his fingers on her. Even though I knew Greg was happily mated, I still couldn't stop the feeling of anger that bubbled up inside of me. This was definitely not good. Avalyn was a human, the one thing I should truly despise the most, yet here I was, unable to understand the lingering feeling in my heart whenever I laid eyes on her. I had even promised the girl I would keep her alive, something very unlike me. It was like some spell had been cast over me the night I spat those words.

And last night... I wasn't in control of my words or actions...

A small sigh left my lips as I watched her intently, she was so beautiful. Truly blessed by the goddess herself, I had never seen anyone of her kind quite as beautiful as she was.

For a quick second, she locked eyes with mine and I saw a quick blush rise to her cheek before she quickly looked away.

Goddess!

"We're ready." I heard Greg call out to the driver as he situated himself in the car.

Shortly after, I joined him and slammed the door shut.

As we got settled into the car seats, I thought about what lay ahead of me in the Dark-moon pack.

These attacks were getting a lot more frequent for my liking. Not only had Desmond's rogues been getting too close to my territory, but they had also had the balls to attack my cousin's pack and take down a few men.

Deep down inside me, I knew exactly what had to be done. But the thought of leaving my people while away at war didn't sit right with me. Hence, the reason I needed to produce an heir as soon as possible. Time was not on my side and I could feel it.

"I had Raiden double the patrol unit for the days we'll be gone. If we're going to be away, the defence of the pack needs to be the number one priority," Greg said, turning to me.

I nodded in response. "What about what we discussed earlier?" I asked. I had informed my Beta to assign Avalyn a personal guard, just to be rest assured that she'd be more protected.

"That has been taken care of." He assured, slightly putting my mind at ease.

The car ride to Dark-moon took about thirty minutes, and before long, we had arrived at their pack territory.

"My king, the concierge at Dark-moon called ahead to schedule a tour for you and the Beta," My driver said with a flat tone, no trace of happiness in his voice.

A frustrated sigh left my lips as I looked up at the man from the rearview mirror. "No. This isn't a leisure trip." I hissed at him.

"Yes, my king." The driver replied, not hesitating to follow orders.

I turned to Greg when I noticed him staring at me. "Is there a problem?" I asked him, my eyes daring him to speak out of line.

He raised a brow and shook his head "no" without saying a word.

"Good. Because we're here for business and you know it," I said, looking out the window. It had been a long time since I'd visited Dark-moon.

The last time I had been here with Willow, it had been during winter and a lot of the greenery had been covered with snow. It was a truly amazing sight to witness the vast greenery and the tall trees swinging in the wind.

"My king, a few more minutes before we get to the pack house," My driver informed me after what felt like an eternity of driving around.

Soon enough though, the tall building of white stones towered like a mountain in the distance, the gold and black accent on it highlighted just how powerful the Alpha of Dark-moon was. He was my cousin after all, power and greatness flowed in our bloodline. The car slowed down and pulled along the stone driveway that circled the huge gates. I watched the massive gates creak open as men dressed in black attire exited it and started walking towards us. The other black vehicles slowly pulled up behind us, but ours stuck out prominently out of all the others.

The men ahead gestured for us to drive forward and in through the gate. Immediately after we had driven into the pack house, the door to my side was opened by one of the men from outside.

"My King!" He bowed as he waited for me to exit the car.

As I stepped out of the car, I watched as all the men proceeded to halt in their steps and bow their heads as a sign of "Welcome, my King."

A tall, slender woman I recognised as my cousin's Beta said with a smile directed at me, as she walked up to Greg and me. "My Alpha, unfortunately, is held up in a meeting, which is why he sent me to you." She added.

I nodded in understanding, causing a pleased smile to appear on her face. Anyone who'd spot her at first glance would make the mistake of disregarding her -since she was really slender and looked weak- but she was one of the strongest wolves I'd had the pleasure of fighting beside. And for that, I deeply respected her, my cousin made no mistake in making her his Beta, she possessed all the qualities of a good second in command.

"Beta Greg, welcome." Her deep voice rang out again. I watched as she snapped her fingers and gestured to the car, making the men around us all walk forward to retrieve our luggage from the boot. "If you would come with me, my King," she said as she turned around to make her way up the long staircase.

I wasted no time as I followed the woman up the stairs and in through the large doors.

"Your sister was just here a few minutes ago, helping me with some errands. I don't know where she's run along to," The Beta said as she led us through the long hallway.

"I'm sure Emily's around here somewhere," Greg chuckled.

"I'm sure she is."

Our footsteps echoed through the empty halls as we proceeded forward.

"Where exactly is the meeting being held?" I asked but didn't need to get a reply back, as the boisterous laughter of the people from the room ahead filled the massive halls and bounced around the large vaulted ceiling. As we walked forward, the men and women in front of me all turned to bow their heads respectfully. I recognized some of them as they were from various other packs in alliance with us. "Right this way," The woman said, pointing to the white doors that lead to the war room.

As I stepped into the room, the men all stopped in their tracks to look at us. And as if a switch had been flipped, they all simultaneously stood to their feet and bowed their heads, a chorus of "my king" floating around the room.

"My king!" My cousin's hearty chuckle filled the room once more. "You've arrived. Welcome!" He walked over to pull me into a brief hug before he turned to my Beta. "And Greg. You're looking quite good."

"Thank you, Alpha. You're looking quite striking yourself." Greg replied with a smile.

"Bless the moon goddess... Oh please do take your seats." The Alpha of Dark-moon offered.

Nodding my head, I took the next few steps forward and took my seat at the head of the large table, Greg coming to sit by my side. I flicked my fingers to the men who were still standing and watched them all take their seats, only then noticing Tristan and his son Monty sitting directly in front of Greg. I sighed as I felt my mood immediately turn sour.

"I believe we all know why we're here." My cousin announced, receiving a few grunts and nods from the men.

"My pack was attacked a few days ago and I lost a dozen good men, it seems that even some of the outlying packs have been attacked sporadically. There were a few casualties, but there weren't too many involved in these first incursions. And according to the reports I've gotten from my men, it seems like whoever did this is testing out our defences."

I looked at Greg and saw that he was also looking at me. We knew exactly who was behind the attacks, it could only be him.

I watched in silence as murmurs of confusion filled the room.

"Any idea who was behind the attacks?" A short, plump, black-haired woman asked. From her accent, I figured she was from the native pack closest to the mountains.

"We have some guesses, but not enough proof." My cousin replied.

"It's Desmond," I said calmly. "He's the one behind the attacks."

At the mention of his name, the whole room immediately went silent.
