Maximus

POV.

The man standing before me was old, with wrinkles etched deeply into his weathered face. His hair was white, with streaks of silver running through it, and his thin frame gave him the appearance of someone who had endured many hardships.

But it was his scar that drew my attention. It ran the length of his face, from his temple down to his jawline, and looked like it had been inflicted by a sword. It was a fresh wound, still pink and swollen, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of battle he had been "My men were about to shoot him.

in.

"No, wait!" Ava quickly interjected. "Don't shoot!"

"Why not?" asked one of my men, sensing the tension in the air.

Turning to face the man we had cornered, Ava approached him with caution. "Mr. Jacobs?" she asked tentatively.

The man looked up at her, fear etched in his features. "Yes," he said.

In a sudden burst of emotion, Ava rushed forward and threw herself into his arms. Kyle and Adrian quickly followed suit, joining in the unexpected embrace.

Felicity and I exchanged puzzled glances. "What's going on?" I asked, trying to make sense of the bizarre scene unfolding before me.

"Ava, who is this?" Felicity asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

"This is Mr. Robert Jacobs," Ava explained. "He's the man from the book."

Felicity's eyes widened in recognition. "The man who knew my parents?" she asked, her voice cracking with emotion.

Ava nodded solemnly. "Yes. It's him."

Without a moment's hesitation, Felicity rushed forward to join the group huddled around Mr. Jacobs. "Did you know my parents?" she asked, her voice quivering with anticipation. The man looked uncomfortable, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "Uh, yes," he admitted hesitantly.

As he spoke, I could hear the weariness in his voice, as if he had been traveling for many days without rest.

Felicity began firing questions at him, her desperation to learn the truth about her parents evident on her face. "What were they like? Did they ever talk about me? How did they die?"

I could see the man becoming increasingly flustered under Felicity's barrage of questions. "Felicity, slow down," I urged her gently. "Let him speak."

She turned to face me, her eyes blazing with anger. "I have every right to know about my parents!" she protested, her voice rising.

I held up my hands in surrender. "Of course, you do," I said calmly. "I just don't want you to overwhelm him."

Felicity let out a deep breath, deflating slightly. "I'm just so desperate to know," she admitted, her voice thick with tears.

I put a comforting arm around her, pulling her into a warm embrace. "We'll find out everything," I promised her. "Together."

Felicity shook her head in disbelief. "Of course, it's relevant! It's my family's tragedy, and you're a part of it! You're the reason why I grew up without my parents!"

I tried to speak, but Felicity cut me off, turning to leave. "Your father was a monster and so are you."

Ava looked at me with a delicate smile before following Felicity. Adrian and Kyle seemed ecstatic about the drama and followed suit. I was left alone with my thoughts until a man approached me. "Do you have any information about my father's past?" I asked the man.

He nodded, "I've worked with Melezo for about 18 years, and I know he's currently in your kingdom. He also has duplicates of himself, making it rare for him to present himself. I've never seen him in person."

Suddenly, everything cleared up in my mind. The man's words confirmed what I had been trying to ignore. I had killed Melezo, but he was still alive. The fact that Marcus told me he was in my kingdom while at the same time he was in his cave. He was a f*****g genius.

I turned to the man and demanded, "What do you gain by helping me? And how do I know you're not a Melezo spy?"

The man held up his hands in surrender and replied, "I have no love for Melezo. He's caused me great harm, and I seek revenge. I can help you track him down and make him pay for what he's done. As for proving myself, I can only offer my honesty and my word as a man. You must choose whether or not to trust me."

Just as I began to consider his offer, we heard the sound of horse hooves approaching. My men sprang into action, ready to defend us. It seemed that danger was never far away, especially when dealing with the likes of Melezo.

The sound of horse hooves grew louder.

"Get ready, men," I ordered. "We might have trouble."

As my soldiers readied themselves, the sound of marching boots grew louder as my men in uniform approached. Titus, the traitor who had caused so much devastation, was at the head of them. I glared at him, feeling the anger rise within me. "What do you have to say for yourself?" I demanded, stepping forward to confront him.

Titus looked me up and down with a sneer on his face. "I have nothing to say to you, Your Highness. You were too naive to see through my manipulations. I played you like a beginner." He laughed.

"What are you doing here, traitor?" I demanded.

Titus looked at me coolly. "Just doing the job you couldn't handle, Your Highness."

"I trusted you," I snarled. "You were a snake in the grass all along."

Titus smirked. "You were too easy to manipulate. I played you like a fiddle."

I gritted my teeth, taking a deep breath to calm myself. "You and your accomplices will face justice for your crimes. Men, arrest them all and bring them back to the palace."

The fight broke out, and I found myself face to face with Titus. He taunted me, trying to throw me off balance. "I can't believe how easy you were to fool, Your Highness. I thought you were smarter than that."

My heart was pounding with rage, and I couldn't believe that I had put my trust in such a deceitful man. Angry tears fell from my eyes as I face Titus, who was staring back at me with a smug expression on his face. "How could you do this to me?" I screamed at him, my voice breaking with emotion. "I trusted you. I thought you were my friend."

Titus just shrugged, his face devoid of any remorse. "It's nothing personal, my friend," he said coldly. "It's just business. And now, you have a choice to make. Either join us, and serve Alpha Melezo, or die."

I gritted my teeth, my fists clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. I knew what I had to do - fight back. And I knew that this was just the beginning of a long and brutal war.
