Marcus

I couldn't stand Halle's words of love any longer. Shifting into my Lycan form and running through the forest. My Lycan howled to the sky before continuing the run and by the time we came back, I was feeling slightly better. I stood in the garden, watching my brother and his mate. Caliana was sitting on his lap comfortably while they talked lovingly and drank wine. Those two have been through a lot of s**t but they pulled through stronger and are happier than ever. Caliana is the kindest person and the best mother I know. I watched them play a while longer on the veranda and it was my two-year-old nephew, Aerys who saw me.

"Uncle Marcus!" He shouted, running on his little legs to the big Lycan. He looked so tiny so I got on my belly and licked his face, he giggled, liking that. He tried to climb on my back as he liked but the attempts were futile. He got on my back after too many failed attempts.

"Hiyaaa!" He shouted, kicking my side like I was a horse and I started to walk.

"Mommy, look, horsy!" He shouted as we approached his smiling parents. Edward got him off me and I shifted back. He threw me a pair of pants before taking Aerys inside to rest. I sighed and sat next to my sister in law, she examined my face "What's wrong?"

"Do you believe in love?" I asked, and she raised her eyebrows.

"Of course, I am in love,"

"I meant do you believe in love at first glance,"

"Yes, love is stupid in the nicest ways," She chuckled, sipping her wine. I grabbed the bottle and took a gulp.

"You're in love?"

"I think so,"

"Who is she? Tell me about her," She beamed.

"Selena, she's beautiful, serene and I want her to be mine, officially,"

"Isn't she a priestess and a celibate?"

"Yes, we can only be friends but Cali, I want more," I found myself smiling again. "I don't want to settle or give myself away to anyone who isn't her," Caliana smacked my head and I groaned " Luna, what the heck, that hurt,"

"Wow, is this you, Marcus, speaking about love so fondly?" She gasped. I know I was a f**k but she's different and I can feel that she was made for me.

"Yes, and I don't know what to do, she clearly wouldn't want me, first, I'm a Lycan, a killer and I've been with many women,"

We stayed silent for a long time before she stood up and extended her hand to me. I took it. She smiled and caressed my cheeks as a mother would to her child, her actions made me vulnerable.

"I'm proud of you for admitting your feelings, I know it wasn't easy, and my advice is go for her, if it's what your heart is telling you,"

"I'm scared," I confessed.

"You should, and it's okay. It's good you're scared because with Love comes great pain," She kissed my cheek. I pulled her in an embrace, it was the longest I've hugged someone.

"Thank you, Cali, thank you for coming into our lives despite how f****d up we are but mostly, thank you for sticking around," I whispered, and she nodded.

"I'll always be here," I pulled away and went back inside, my brother who was watching us quietly nodded to me.

The next few months I spent with my Priestess were incredible! She was kind and gentle, she loved butterflies and I would watch her make them with her magic in different colors in her garden.

I was smiling as I watched her chase them and twirl around when I got my phone from my pocket and snap a quick picture of her. Selena looks like she's in a fairytale. She stumbled on her feet and almost crashed to the ground but I caught her. Our eyes locked and I removed the hair that covered part of her face. We leaned into each other and her beautiful eyes slowly closed just when I was about to connect our lips but her words jolted me, 'no funny business'. This is what she meant. I cleared my throat and pulled away, she looked disappointed and I was confused.

"I have something for you," She suddenly said, rummaging through her dress pockets and fetching out a neck chain.

"I made this for you, It will calm you and when I'm out of sight, maybe you can think of me," She smiled sadly, and I caressed her cheek.

"I always think of you, Selena," I said and tears welled in her eyes,

"You're sad... Why are you sad?" She shook her head and forced a graceful smile on her lips.

"Today is an open market and I want to treat you to the most delicious street food," She said and I narrowed my gaze.

"You want people to see me with you?" I asked, no one from her coven knows of our friendship because shifters and witches don't get along too well.

"Princess Ansley has a friendship with your family so no one will openly ask about your presence here," She said, grabbing my hand and taking me to her house. It was an elegant hanok-style house.

"Come in," She said and I smiled, entering. It was pleasant and cozy, with cream-white couches and a gigantic fur-white carpet in the middle. A huge tv was mounted to the wall above the modern fireplace. It was neat and clean too.

"I have wine in the kitchen for guests, make yourself comfortable," She said and rushed upstairs to change.

Twenty minutes later she came out, wearing a black dress that slightly exposed her cleavage and skin.

"Let's go!" She seemed enthusiastic.

The open market was large and many people made delicious food in stalls. I noticed that many witches stared at me warily or gave us the way to pass. Others couldn't even hide their shock to see me there but Selena didn't seem to mind. Instead, she held my hand and took me to all her favorite food stalls where we tried so many delicious snacks.

"Here, try this," She said, feeding me some kind of steak strip. We had almost everything and I was too full by the time she suggested dessert.

We went to lay by the calm beach, rubbing our stomachs. We shouldn't have eaten too much!

"The food was way better than those fancy restaurants you take me to," She smiled. I shifted my position, almost hovering over her, and kissed her forehead,

"Everything is so much better with you," We stare at each other for a long time before she said; " I love my coven, I treasure my people, and I'd never want to leave," "Okay,"

"I wouldn't, right? This is home," She had a scowl on her face and I pinched her nose.

"Yes," I answered. I knew what she was driving at but I wanted her to say it herself. She hit my shoulder hard, making me hiss.

"You're not helping," She pouted, looking away from me. I pulled her in my arms so she was straddling me and put her hands on my shoulders.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"What do you think I want?" She threw the question back at me.

"You sound like someone yearning for change," I said and she sighed, she did that a lot. Selena needed more, she wanted more of the world not locked in her territory and growing her power.

"I know what you want and it's not merely friendship, you want me and your inner Lycan chose me as your better half but I can't be with you, sorry," She said softly and my heart broke. I nodded. "Selena, I- I," I couldn't formulate any sentences.

"Don't seek me out anymore, it's hard," A tear rolled down her face and she stood up, without looking back she walked away from me... I fell on my knees the instant she left and clutched the neck chain she gave me tighter, I felt cold... Too f*****g cold.
