The Mafia’s Good Wife -
Chapter 30
~ Violet -
----ONE WEEK LATER
"I still can't believe you two are getting married next week. It's all happening so fast!"
The Carvey household went bananas as soon as Violet and Luke told everyone about their engagement. Violet, of course, also told her mom and brother about her being pregnant. Barbara was so happy, she cried the whole day. She also didn't know anything about Damon, so she naturally thought the baby was Luke's. Dylan, on the other hand, knew that wasn't the complete story. But still, this was very good news so he didn't want to say anything to jinx it.
"I know, it is pretty fast," Violet said as she looked at Luke for support.
"But when you know, you know. You know?" Luke smiled reassuringly and took her hand.
"Yeah, but planning a whole wedding in seven days? That's pretty ballsy," Ivy laughed as she flipped through the wedding magazines on the dining table.
Since they broke the news, the wedding was all that everyone could talk about, even during dinner. Tonight was no exception. Luke was over for dinner at the Carvey house and the topic of their wedding took center stage. There were many things they needed to prepare for, but luckily for Violet, her family was a great support. Barbara kept giving them encouraging words and Dylan and Ivy shared their contacts and unused wedding concepts from their own wedding.
"That's probably my fault. I just can't wait to spend the rest of my life with the woman of my dreams," Luke spoke again, and everyone in the room went 'aww'.
Violet let out a smile as she glanced at Luke again. Getting married this quickly wasn't her idea, it was Luke's. He said that the sooner they get married, the sooner they didn't have to hide the pregnancy from people in town and the easier it'd be for everyone. He's got a point.
Even though she agreed to it, everything was happening so fast and sometimes Violet felt like her life was passing her by. But if she really thought about it, she knew Luke was only looking out for her and they were doing the right thing by her baby. And so, they settled for a wedding next weekend.
Violet and Luke's wedding would be a small and intimate event. Only the family and their closest friends were invited. They would be married at the town's church because that was where Luke's dad got married to his mom. Luke's dad was overjoyed when he heard about the news. They went and told him right after they told Violet's family.
Luke's dad knew about his son's crush on Violet ever since she started working at the coffee shop. He was always telling Luke to ask her out, but for three years, Luke never did. So when he heard about Luke and Violet getting engaged, he was so happy, he had tears in his eyes.
"Finally!" he exclaimed. "It's about damn time!"
Luke's dad had no complaints about the wedding happening in a few weeks' time. Being the cool dad that he was, he didn't even ask too many questions. He just supported his son, did all he could to help, including talking to the town's pastor about having a wedding there next week.
"Everything's set," Luke announced proudly. "My dad got the venue under control, we've got the invitations out, and my cousin's band is playing for us. All we have to do now is walk down the aisle,"
Luke shot a glance at Violet and she smiled nervously at him. Barbara noticed it and turned her eyes to the couple.
"Yeah, and how are you two feeling?" she asked.
Luke was beaming with excitement but Violet couldn't shake the nervousness in her voice as she said, "Good. We feel pretty good,"
That wasn't a total lie, Violet thought to herself. She felt like she made the right choice by marrying Luke. It was a good choice and it made her feel good. The nervousness meant nothing.
"Don't worry, it's normal to feel nervous about something this big," Ivy interjected and smiled knowingly. "I had cold feet too right before I married Dylan. But once I stood there in front of him, I knew there's nothing to be nervous about,"
Ivy turned to Dylan who was stuffing his face with pasta and laughed. She then wiped the tomato sauce on his lips and he smiled back. Ivy and Dylan were being so sweet, Violet couldn't help but smile. She wondered if that was how she and Luke would be like too. "Trust me," Ivy said again. "You two are making the best decision of your lives,"
Violet felt Luke's hand tightening around hers and she gripped him right back. Then she turned to the side to see him already looking at her. His gaze was soft and gentle, full of warmth and love. She felt stronger just by looking at him. And at that moment, the nervousness in her heart suddenly went away.
I am making the right choice. I am.
After dinner was done, Violet and Ivy went to clean up the dishes while the boys were talking outside. Barbara was feeling tired so she retired to her room. Ivy then gave Violet some more pep-talk about the wedding jitters and she even gave her tips for the wedding night.
"I know they all say that the wedding night s*x has to be spectacular, but that's a lie. Don't put too much pressure on it. Just relax and have fun!"
Ivy went on and on about wedding night s*x while Violet only smiled and nodded politely. To be honest, s*x was the last thing on her mind right now. Between the wedding planning and morning sickness, Violet couldn't even think about the wedding night. Besides, she and Luke weren't a s****l couple. The most that they've done was kiss each other. Violet couldn't even begin to imagine what s*x with Luke would look like.
"...and remember, communication is key! Just talk to each other. Even if you get tired and don't feel like having s*x, that's okay too-"
"Thanks for the tips, Ivy. Really," Violet cut Ivy off quickly. Listening to her talking about wedding night s*x made Violet feel a certain kind of way. "... But I'm feeling kinda tired right now, I think I'm gonna head to bed,"
"Oh, okay," Ivy nodded her head, taking the hint. "Don't worry about the dishes, I'll finish them. Have a good night,"
"Thank you. Good night,"
After drying her hands and giving Ivy a polite smile, Violet went upstairs to her room. She took a quick shower and brushed her teeth, getting herself ready for bed. She tried her hardest not to think about what Ivy was saying, but it was no use. Wedding night s*x was all that she could think about now. Especially the part where and she Luke would ultimately have s*x, even if not that night, but some night in the future.
Violet never had s*x with anyone other than Damon. Every time the word 's*x' came up, all she could remember was Damon and all the things he taught her. All she knew about s*x was the way he touched her, the way his body moved, and the way he sent her to paradise and back. Violet could only wonder what s*x with Luke would be like. And a part of her was too scared to know.
"Hey," Luke said suddenly, smiling brightly.
Violet gasped in shock as she stepped out of the bathroom to find Luke sitting on her bed. Quickly, she pulled her bathrobe tighter around her body.
"Oh, h-hey," she stammered. "What are you doing here?"
"Nothing," he shrugged and got up, planting a quick kiss on her cheek. "I just wanna wish my future-wife good night,"
Violet shrunk back in response. Normally, she wasn't this stiff around Luke, but all this thinking about s*x got her all worked up and self-conscious.
"Well, um... good night to you too," Violet managed a response, shoving her nervousness away.
Luke let out a smile as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. His hand lingered on her face and he tilted her chin up so she was facing him. Violet swallowed hard as Luke slowly closed his eyes and leaned for her lips.
Luke's kiss was slow and gentle. Violet closed her eyes instinctively and let Luke take the lead. He put one hand to the back of her head and another to the small of her back, deepening the kiss.
Setting her anxieties aside, Violet then kissed him back. Luke let out a low groan when he felt her tongue on his lips. His body turned tense and his kiss grew more demanding. Luke moved their bodies back until Violet felt the bed and he lay her down. Without breaking off the kiss, Luke positioned himself on top of her, pressing their bodies together.
Violet felt the heat of his body and his warm breaths fanning her cheeks. Suddenly, her head was filled with flashes of when this last happened. It was two months ago with Damon. Every time she closed her eyes, all she could see was Damon's face and the way he looked as he made love to her.
"You're mine, sweet girl. All mine,"
"Luke, wait..." Violet found herself pushing Luke back suddenly.
"What's wrong?" Luke was taken aback and panting breathlessly for air.
"I... I'm sorry..."
Violet couldn't say much except that. Her eyes went to the floor and her hands went to cover her exposed chest, tightening the bathrobe around her waist. Meanwhile, Luke was silent for a moment, watching her reaction. He saw that she was shaking and her eyes were filled with fear. She just wasn't ready.
"Hey, don't be sorry, it's okay," he said understandingly, reaching out to hug her.
Violet stayed frozen as Luke pulled her into his embrace. She didn't know why she was feeling guilty and wrong. This should be fine, this shouldn't be a big deal, she thought. But it was. No matter how hard she tried to fight it, she still couldn't get Damon out of her head.
"I know it's gonna take some time, but I promise, it's gonna be okay..." Luke continued whispering gently into her ears as his hand stroked her hair.
Violet's eyes glazed over and she couldn't stop the tears from falling. She buried her face deeper into Luke's arms and whispered the same words again and again, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
"Ssh, it's okay. There's no need to rush. I'll wait for you, as long as it takes,"
Luke's words were everything she needed to hear. Violet clung harder onto him as she let the tears dry out. Luke only smiled patiently as he stroked her hair, hugging her throughout the night.
Someday I'll forget you, Damon. Someday everything's going to be okay...
Violet felt her vision turning black as she slowly drifted into sleep. Luke was still holding her body, letting her fall asleep on his chest. Violet felt safe and warm in his arms, and she used that warmth to rid her thoughts of Damon and his dark piercing eyes. Someday...
