The Mafia’s Good Wife -
Chapter 31
~ Damon - ---THREE DAYS LATER -
The next couple of days went by like a blur for Damon. Once he decided to go all in into this mission, he was gone for good. He spent all of his time entertaining Hugo and Celina with the idea that this alliance was a perfect match made in heaven. Damon did all he could to play his part. He did everything and anything to gain Hugo and Celina's trust. He even stopped taking calls from Beau and Adrian because Celina was starting to ask questions about his secret phone calls late at night. Time was ticking by and before he knew it, the wedding was coming in three days. Damon also didn't want to think about that, so he busied himself with distractions-like playing golf with Hugo in the day, and spending his nights f*****g Celina into oblivion. Tonight was probably no different. After dinner, Damon slipped to the second floor balcony to have a smoke. He was only going to take a five minute breather before going into the bedroom where he knew Celina would be waiting for him. Damon stood alone in the silence of the night. The only sounds he heard were the cool breeze blowing in the air and the sound of his cigarette burning away in his hand. Looking out into the dark garden of the estate, Damon's mind began to wander. It had been weeks since his last phone call with Adrian or Beau. He hadn't heard any updates regarding Violet and he missed it. So before he could stop himself, Damon pulled out his secret phone and turned it on. The moment that he did, his phone started buzzing with a phone call from Adrian.
"Damon, where the hell have you been?!" Adrian's voice was loud and demanding. He didn't even wait for Damon to say hello, he just started talking as soon as the call was picked up.
"I
I got busy. I'm getting married in three days. You know how it is," Damon replied simply.
"Well, I got news for you and I don't think you're gonna like it,"
"What?"
"You're not the only one who's getting married in three days' time,"
"What the hell are you talking about-"
Damon stopped himself from talking. Without Adrian saying a word, Damon understood what he meant. Who else could be getting married and it would upset him? It must be her. Violet's getting married...?
For a split second, Damon felt like he couldn't breathe. He couldn't think and his knees began to shake.
"Is it with him?" Damon's voice was low and his eyes grew dark. "The guy she says she loves?"
Adrian paused for a moment before answering, "Yeah... And the wedding's this Saturday at the local church,"
Fúck.
Damon's fists clenched instinctively. If he could throw this phone down the balcony, he would, but he couldn't do that. He needed to hear more.
"Beau had been trying to reach you for days, but your phone was always off," Adrian continued talking, filling the silence.
"Yeah..." Damon replied finally, letting out a long and heavy sigh. "Celina was starting to suspect something, I had to play it cool,"
"Damon, come on," Adrian pleaded. "I think this has gone too far. You gotta come back, you still have time. Forget about DeSantis and all that. You need to come home and-" "And what?" Damon scoffed coldly. "Stop her from marrying the love of her life?"
The words sounded bitter in his mouth and his chest was aching as he heard himself saying the words out loud.
"Hey, we both know you're the real love of her life," Adrian said matter-of-factly. "And she's yours too,"
Adrian's words made him feel a little better. Damon even almost smiled, but then he stopped himself. Because what's the use of loving someone if you can't be with them?
"Well, she's made it very clear she doesn't wanna be with me, alright? Love doesn't mean shit!" Damon said through gritted teeth. He was clenching his jaw so hard, he felt like breaking his own mouth.
Adrian let out a long sigh and Damon could imagine him pacing back and forth if he was here with him. He was probably thinking hard about what to say and what advice to give.
"Damon, listen... I'm gonna advise you not as your consigliere, but as your brother," he said finally. "You need to fight for something that's worth fighting for, and I don't think all the power in the world will give you what you want. What you want is her. She's who you should be fighting for. You need to be there in Texas and not in Italy about to marry some girl-"
"Damon! My love, where are you?" Suddenly, Celina's high-pitched voice cut through the air. Damon whipped his head back to the direction of her voice, and he knew he couldn't continue this call.
"I'm just having a smoke, I'll be right there!" Damon yelled out a response before whispering back to the phone, "I gotta go, Adrian," "Damon, wait-"
"It's done, Adrian. She's made her choice and I've made up my mind," Damon said firmly. "And just so you know, you're wrong. I'm not doing this for power or for myself. I'm doing this for her. This family has done her family a lot of injustice so maybe this is the best thing I can give to her,"
"Damon..."
Adrian was speechless. This was a new revelation to him. All this time, he thought Damon was doing this suicidal mission to gain more power for the family, but no. He was doing this for her. This was an act of selfless love. He was going to give his life away for her, and she didn't even know it.
"Just take care of everything and everyone in the estate for me. You'll do great, I know you will," Damon continued talking, filling up the silence. "Wait-"
"You can be a little soft sometimes, but with Talia by your side, I know you two can be a great leader for our family. I'm leaving everything up to you two," "Damon! Don't tell me-"
"The end's here for me. It's been a great ride, but I'm finally gonna be able to rest," Damon said with a satisfied smile. "Thanks for everything. And goodbye, Adrian," "Damon-!"
* CLICK *
Damon ended the call before Adrian could say another word. And just like that, he then threw the phone out of the balcony and into the tall trees, not caring where it landed. This is it. This is the end.
Damon turned around and straightened his suit. His hand went to his back and gripped the silver gun he was hiding there, making sure that everything was in its place. The silver gun was small and it had three bullets inside. On the side of the gun was a carving of a small flower, a violet. This one's for you, my sweet girl.
"Honey, where have you been? I went looking all over for you!" Celina's voice was heard again and Damon quickly hid the gun behind his back. Celina then appeared moments later and Damon greeted her with a smile.
"I just had to take a call, but it's done. Where's your dad?"
"In the office, why?"
"I got something I need to tell him,"
"What thing?"
"It's a man thing,"
"Oh... okay..." Celina wasn't fully satisfied with the answer, but she knew better than to press. Slowly, she stepped aside and let Damon walk away.
I just hope you know, everything I do, I do it for you.
"Damon!" Celina called out suddenly, stopping his tracks. "When you're done with daddy, I'll be waiting in our room,"
Damon didn't even turn around. He had a menacing smirk playing on his face as he said, "Sure thing,"
Damon's steps were full of conviction as he continued walking, making his way to Hugo's office. He knew there was probably no chance he could get out of that office alive to see Celina or anyone else ever again after what he was about to do, and he didn't care. I love you forever and always, my Violet...
* CRASH! *
"Mio figlio? What's going on?" Hugo looked up in confusion as Damon suddenly barged through the door. Inside the office, Hugo was sitting by the desk and his two bodyguards were sitting on the side.
"Your time's up, Hugo. This is the end,"
*BANG! *
