The Mafia’s Good Wife -
Chapter 51
~ Violet ~
Ever since finding out the baby's gender, things became something of a hectic blur in the Van Zandt estate. Damon was obviously over the moon and overdoing it. Because in the next few days, early in the morning when Violet just woke up, she came down to find boxes and boxes being brought into the living room. They were all things for the baby, from a crib to strollers to toys and everything and anything a baby boy could ever need.
"Move everything up to the second floor guestroom. To Violet's old room," Damon said to Elena and she nodded her head. In her hand was a clipboard. She was monitoring all the deliveries that came in.
Violet walked down the stairs as several guards were walking up. In their hands were boxes and boxes of stuff. One of the guards was even carrying an electric small car fit for toddlers to use. "Damon, what's all this?" Violet asked as she stepped down.
Damon turned around and beamed when he saw her. He just shrugged like it was nothing, and he strode over to her.
"I know I've been so busy dealing with the business and everything, but I don't want you to think I'm forgetting my number one priority," he said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Well, this is definitely too much stuff," Violet giggled as she saw another guard carrying a five-foot tall teddy bear up the stairs. "And our baby's not even born yet!"
"There's no such thing as too much for our baby," Damon smirked.
"You're gonna spoil him rotten," Violet said as she put her hands on his chest.
"Hey, I just want him to have all the best things in life," Damon said as he linked his arms around her waist. "Things I never got to have growing up,"
Violet caught a glimpse of Damon's eyes and they were glistening. It caught her off guard for a moment. She never truly realized how excited Damon was until right now. Having a baby boy and being able to give him the life that he never had meant the world for him.
"My, my, my, what's happening out here?" Talia's voice echoed in the room and Violet turned around. Talia was stepping into the living room and she was laughing at all the boxes stacked up. "It's like Christmas came early,"
"So, we found out the baby's gender and I kinda got too excited," Damon replied with a chuckle.
"Oh!" Talia gaped in excitement. "What is it?"
Violet and Damon exchanged a look before turning back to Talia.
"It's a boy," he said proudly.
"My goodness, congratulations! I'm so happy for you two!" Talia squealed and went over to hug Damon and Violet.
"Thank you," Violet said as she hugged her back.
"I can't wait to find out my baby's gender. Our kids are gonna be best friends," Talia smiled, holding onto her stomach.
"For sure," Violet nodded in agreement.
"Hey, Damon, this one's not gonna fit in the room, where do you want this?" Beau popped in suddenly and there were two guys carrying a huge playland set from the front door.
"That can go in the garage for now," Damon said and he walked away, leading the guys to the garage entrance.
Meanwhile, Violet and Talia exchanged looks and a laugh.
"I see Damon's handling everything very well," she commented.
"Yeah, he's not over the top at all," Violet replied.
"And how are you feeling? Having a baby boy and all?"
Violet paused for a beat. Damon wasn't in the room anymore, so she could talk freely.
"Honestly, Tal... I'm a bit worried," she admitted.
"Why?"
"Because... I don't know how to raise a baby boy,"
"And you know how to raise a baby girl?"
"Maybe," she shrugged. "Girls are less likely to get into trouble, right?"
"Your baby's not even born yet and you're already worried they're gonna get in trouble?" Talia laughed.
Violet just glanced down, unable to laugh. Maybe this was silly, but one of her biggest fears was having to raise a boy who'd somehow get involved with Damon's family business. If it was a girl, there would be no such concerns.
Talia noticed the worry in Violet's eyes and cocked her head to the side. She then pulled Violet to the couch and the two girls sat down.
"Vi, I know this is a scary time for us both. Some days I wake up really scared because I have to do this on my own. But other days, I wake up feeling very grateful because of what we get to have," Talia said meaningfully. "I mean, look at all this. Your baby's gonna have so much love from his mommy and daddy,"
Violet stifled a laugh. She glanced around the room again, nodding her head in agreement.
"Thanks, Talia," she replied, pausing for a beat before adding, "Hey, how about you? How are you feeling lately?"
"I feel a lot better," Talia said reassuringly. She didn't say it just to say it. Violet could see it in her eyes. Talia was doing much better now.
"That's good,"
"You know, I have a feeling I'll have a baby boy too,"
"What? How do you know that?"
"It's just a feeling. A gut feeling. But I'm rarely wrong about my gut,"
Violet narrowed her eyes skeptically, but Talia just kept going.
"Your baby too. I actually kinda sensed it that it's gonna be a boy, but I never said anything because I thought you two wanted to wait," "Well, we did... but then we didn't,"
"I can already see it," Talia said as she closed her eyes and put her hand on Violet's stomach. "Your baby's gonna be just like Damon,"
Violet's lips curved into a smile. The thought of having a mini Damon with those piercing blue eyes and jet black hair running around the house was the cutest thing ever. But then again... if her son was to grow up to be like Damon...
That's still a good thing. Right...?
- Damon -
"Over there, right on the corner," Damon instructed the men who were carrying a racecar bed into the room to put it down in the corner. The men put the bed down carefully and let out a sigh of relief. "That's it. Great work, boys,"
Damon clapped his hands in excitement and looked around the room. In a matter of days, this guest room had been turned into a nursery slash future bedroom for their baby boy. Damon got the walls repainted and had a crib installed. He knew the baby wouldn't stay in the crib forever, so he also got a bed already prepared. He was already thinking so far ahead, and he couldn't stop.
Passing by the closet, Damon nodded approvingly that it was already filled with clothes for newborns and toddlers. Walking over to the shelves, he noted how there were so many books and toys stacked up there. Babies couldn't read books, obviously, but Damon prepared them anyway. They were all of his favorite books that he never got to own when he was young. He used to read them in the school library, and he remembered wanting to own them so badly, but they didn't have any money. Damon's hand reached for the shelves and he took a baseball and a glove and a smile curved up his lips.
There was a time in his life when Damon wanted to be a baseball player. All he wanted to do when he was a kid was play baseball. All his friends at school had their dads to play catch ball with, but he didn't have that. He practiced very hard to be good, but the other kids were mean to him. They never let him play with them. On top of that, they also made fun of him for his ragged clothes and tattered shoes. The things that he wore to school were things that people donated to the church. He used to wear this old pair of Nike shoes and it turned out that someone in his class donated those shoes. He got bullied even more for that, for never having anything new in his life. So really, all of the things that he got for the baby were to make up for what he lacked when he was a kid. My son's never gonna have to go through what I went through...
With that thought in mind, Damon walked to the window and threw his gaze to the open sky. It was the end of winter, so the sky was still somewhat gloomy, but Damon's heart was filled with hope.
His life's gonna be different. It's gonna be better.
Damon imagined how the winter will end and spring will come. The trees will turn green, the flowers will bloom, and his baby boy will come into this world to a loving family. His father will love him immensely and he will have the best mother in the world. Of course, Violet would be an amazing mother. Damon could already tell. She had this wonderful, nurturing and kind energy. He didn't know he got so lucky, loving such a girl and having her love him back in return. They're going to build such a beautiful family together.
That right there... Is the best thing anyone can ask for...
"Hey,"
Suddenly, Damon heard a voice and he looked up to see Violet standing at the doorway.
Speak of the devil. Or... the angel.
"Hey," he replied. "I'm just finishing up here,"
Violet stepped inside and her jaw fell to the floor. This was the first time she saw the nursery fully painted and furnished.
"Wow, it looks... so different here," she beamed. Her hands went to touch all the furniture and it made her smile.
"After our bedroom, I think this room's my second favorite room in the house," Damon said as he strode towards her.
"Really? Not the s*x-dungeon play room?" she giggled.
"I'm being serious," he rolled his eyes. "This was your room. You don't know how excited I was every time I came in here,"
"Really?"
"Hell yeah," he chuckled, standing at an arm's length away. "Ever since you came into my office, you've got me wrapped around your little finger. I knew it then and there that I'd do anything and everything for you,"
So much so that several million dollars feel like a bargain.
Violet looked up at him and Damon's breath was caught in his throat. Her beautiful purple eyes were glimmering and the whole world stopped for a moment.
She's the best thing in the world and I can't stand another minute not being with her.
Damon's heart was overflowing with emotion. Standing tall right in front of her, his right hand reached for her hand and his left hand went to his back pocket.
"Sweet girl, meeting you was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, and losing you was the worst thing that ever happened and I never want to experience that again,"
Slowly, he started to bend down on one knee and Violet's entire body froze.
"You changed my life for the better and I wanna do the same for you,"
Damon pulled out a ring from his back pocket and held it in his thumb and index finger. The large diamond shone brightly and Violet couldn't take her eyes off it. This was the ring that she was supposed to wear on her wedding day, but they never got there. Damon kept it all this time because he knew he was going to need it again. "Damon..." she gasped. Her hands went to cover her mouth and her eyes went wide like saucers.
"I've been holding onto this ever since the wedding. I can't throw it away because I know we're not over. We never were and never will be,"
Violet's hand was shaking as Damon brought the ring closer to her. Damon's voice was shaking too as he said, "So, as we're stepping into this new journey together... Violet Rose Carvey, will you do me the honor of being my wife, again?"
Damon stifled a laugh as he put the ring on her finger. He was so nervous, everything inside him felt like exploding, but he held it together as best as he could. With his heart racing a million miles an hour, he looked up at her again and his deep blue eyes waited on her every move.
"Forever this time?"
