The Prince’s Abused Mate – Chapter 29

” Happy Birthday, Amara,” Prince Theodore says in his deep voice, today is indeed a day of surprises, the Prince wished me a happy birthday! I smile at him.

” Thank you, Prince Theodore,” I try to look around outside and check my phone in case Prince Ahyan has texted but there is no notification.

” Are you looking for my brother?” The Prince asks and I almost choke on my saliva, I shake my head profusely.

He chuckles, it’s short and deep, I’ve never heard him laugh before.

” Are you sure?” He narrows his gaze and I bite my lips, ” Well, he went to a meeting with Father,” He informs me. I sigh, disappointed.

Soon, a few people start to come into class and the lecturer.

” Good morning, everyone, please take your seats,” The lecturer, Dr. Buss claps his hands. he’s a fat middle aged man and wears tight clothing

” I was at the gym but I think I broke something down there,” He sighs, frowning. The class chuckles.

I glance over my shoulder and catch the prince looking at me with a look I can’t decipher, he looks away to the board but still frowning. The class was cut short because Dr. Buss was unwell, he did break something down there.

I pick my bag to go outside but the Prince Theo comes to me,

” Do you want to have breakfast with me, Amara?” He asks, looking at me void of emotions, I try to find words to reject politely but my stomach growls, and I close my eyes momentarily, damn, that was embarrassing.

” Let’s go,” He begins walking, not waiting for my response. I follow suit, he guides me to an area with no students and opens a glass door for me, I nod and enter, this lounge is breathtaking with white sofas, a fireplace near what looks like a dining room, and has a good view of the garden.

The room is elegant with a high ceiling, and wooden shiny floors, and smells good. I didn’t even know it existed.

” You may sit,” He says, I nod and take the sofa in front of him, he puts his bag aside and rests his head on the sofa while I’m tapping my hands against my legs, something I do when I’m nervous. Why did he ask me? My mind is fussing with questions, the young Prince is imposing already, now I get to have breakfast with him? My werewolf instincts are driving me crazy, and I feel Rhudo’s presence for the first time in a while.

‘ Rhudo! where did you go,’ I ask, angry but relieved that she is back.

‘ I just needed to think,’ She says, quietly. I huff and begin my ranting about how things were without her, she is rolling her eyes as if what I’m saying is nonsense.

‘ Relax, I’m back now,’ She simply says.

” Arguing with your wolf,” The Prince suddenly says, I squint my eyes. how does he know? His eyes are still closed though.

A man in a chef’s uniform appears, he bows to us politely and asks what we are having.

” The usual for me, what about you, Amara?” He asks, now opening his eyes.

” Anything edible is fine,’ I reply, the man walks away. And the Prince faces me,

” Are you and my brother mates?” He suddenly asks, taking me by surprise. I gulp and squint my eyes

” No, we are just friends,” I respond

” But you want him to be your mate,” He smirks. I feel my cheeks flush and I don’t meet his gaze.

” I doubt that’s possible anyway, he turned eighteen a few months ago, he should have sensed me by now,”

from what I know, Dragons find their soulmates at eighteen years old. So if I was his, he would have told me. Prince Theo’s face falls

” I doubt he’d tell anyone if he did,” He murmurs under his breath but I got it.

” Why is that?”

” Ahyan is complicated, he doesn’t open up to anyone, especially matters of the heart since the incident,” He says.

” What incident?” I ask, for the first time, he looks agitated, unable to formulate words. What happened?

” Dragons are difficult and different creatures especially since they control a dangerous element, Amara, fire is… complicated and can spread, the tamer needs a level and calm mind,” That’s all he says.

Before I can ask again, two waiters come, carrying trays of food and putting them down on the glass table between Prince Theodore and me. The food looks delicious and is a lot, there is toast bread, eggs, slices of bacon and beans. They have brought all kinds of fruits and vegetables too. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I started eating. The food is delicious, far better than what I’ve tasted.

” Why did you go to Minnesota, did he share with you why he was there? And don’t lie,” he almost growl, the hybrid Prince is looking at me with a solemn expression and I flinch.

” He didn’t share his reasons for going there,” I swallow

” Are you lying?”

” No, but even if he did, I wouldn’t… Tell you,” I bite my lips. He looks at me for a few seconds and he nods, getting a piece of bacon and eating it. We are silent but what he said is replaying in my head so I ask.

” You mentioned an incident, Prince Theo what happened?” He doesn’t answer and suddenly, my wolf is on four walls, alert and my heart is pacing, I get up, and bow to the young Prince.

” I should leave now, thank you for breakfast,”

without waiting for his response, I rush out of the room as my wolf says one word,

‘ Mate,’

I follow the familiar intoxicating scent with a pounding heart. I don’t know this part of the school but I continue in the direction of the scent, I’m in between corridors and I don’t know which route to take as it seems he went through all of them. I just stand there, confused.

‘ Turn.’ I hear Rhudo order and I oblige. My breath caught in my chest as I see the man I’ve been wanting to see.

His back is pressed against the wall, arms crossed against his chest. He’s peering at me intensely, looking like a bad boy with a blunt between his fingers. His piercing gaze is keeping me captive where I stand, inhale and a shiver runs down my spine.

” Mate,” We breathe at once.

Ahyan pushes himself off the wall and approaches me, he is not smiling while I’m dying inside with happiness but It hits me, Ahyan is eighteen and must have known we were mates, why didn’t he say something sooner?

The tingles erupt on my skin as he places his hands on my neck while my heart is racing like crazy right now.

” Why didn’t you say anything?” I ask quietly, putting my hands on his waist and look into his eyes. He shakes his head and backs away.

” I couldn’t,” His voice is croaked and he seems confused. A loud growl ripes from his chest and he runs his hand through his hair. ” I can’t,” He keeps chanting the words. He looks like he’s having a hard time to breath, growls are resonating from his chest, and his irises are darker.

I walk closer to him, rubbing his back by instincts, finally, he seems to calm down and face me.

” It’s fine, you wanted to be- sure, um that’s why you didn’t tell me, right?” I try to calm my frantic heart. My gut is telling me something else, I feel strange but I avoid it. I wrap my arms around him and for some reason, tears flow down my cheeks, Ahyan is mine but why doesn’t it feel like that right now? He grabs my arms and steps away from me, I gulp.

” Say something, please,”

” I can’t be anybody’s mate right now,” His words hit me like a truck and I choke, what does he mean by that?

” but I’m not anyone, I’m Amara,” I whimper.

” Amara, I don’t believe in the mate bond, It’s shitty, and forced, I’m not one to be forced into anything,” Ahyan is breathing hard. My wolf howls sadly and pain pierces through my chest. He doesn’t make sense at all. Then why was he so good to me? Goddess, I’m confused, and tears continuously flow down my cheeks.

Ahyan cups my face and k****s me deeply, I can taste salt in our k**s but I can’t tell whose tears they are. I’m crying buckets at the thought of my mate not wanting me and he has shed a tear or two.

” I don’t want a mate, I can’t have one, I’m reckless, I’m selfish, and just can’t commit to anyone. You deserve so much better than me, Amara,” We are so close to one another and he wipes my tears with his thumb, begging me not to cry for him.

” I don’t deserve you, I’m a f*****g mess and please don’t cry for me,”

” Then- then why did you get close to me?” I ask, stammering. All this doesn’t make sense to me!

” Happy birthday seventeenth birthday, my Amara. You deserve the world,” He k****s my forehead, ignoring my question as he is good at that. He turns to walk away from me but I follow him, hitting his back with all my strength.

” Why?!” I shout, ” Why did you f.cking get close to me, Ahyan. You made me love you!” He freezes at the words and my hand flies to my mouth, am I in love with him? Yes. I don’t know when or how but I love him. I fall madly in love with him.

He turns around to face me finally, his eyes are full of emotions I’ve never seen on him. He sighs and it feels so warm. ” I’m not a good guy, Amara, just because I gave you some attention doesn’t make me a nice gentleman,” He says in his deep monotone voice.

” I don’t care about that but you were good to me, and I want to know why,” I demand.

” My Dragon likes you… so much but we hurt people, Amara, even those we think we care for,”

Is this what Prince Theodore was talking about? Has Ahyan hurt someone close to him before?

” You won’t hurt me,” I say in a quiet voice.

” I will, I don’t have control of myself when I’m angry, I’ve hurt a person I deeply cared once, I burned her to a crisp because of an argument,” He confesses and my body convulses yet I’m not scared of him. Out of what he says, the only thing that rings in my head is ‘ someone I deeply cared for’ Ahyan has been attached to someone before. I didn’t know that. I’m crying and shaking my head.

” Let’s go, I’ll take you home, you need some rest,” He says softly, grabbing my hand. Ahyan guides me out of the area we were in and are now walking through the hallways.

We come into view with some students, they bow to their Prince while others still wish me a happy birthday, I notice, that he doesn’t let go of my hand.

As soon as we reach the third-floor hallway, his friends along with mine are standing and are having a staredown like they are about to wrestle, they notice our approach and stand at ease.

” Was she crying?” Sophie asks, rushing to my side. I hug her for a long time and a few more tears roll down.

” What did you do to her?” Growls Happy, glaring at Ahyan but the Prince doesn’t seem phased by him. He only squeezes my hand tighter before letting go.

” What is going on?” I hear Cole asks.

” We’ll talk later,” Ahyan answers, dismissively. The awkwardness seems to disperse among us.

Cole is the first to wish me a happy birthday followed by Lyon and Jay. I thank them politely.

” Why are you here?” I ask Happy and Soph.

” We were looking for you, and heard you talk with the Prince so we waited here… Together,” Replies Lyon, pressing his phone.

Ahyan is stealing glances at me while talking to his friends, I try to listen to their private discussion. They are talking about girls and when Debra’s name is mentioned, a growl escapes my lips involuntarily. I see the beginning of a smirk on my mate’s lips and I roll my eyes. Is he pleased that I’m jealous?

I’m still confused about what happened though, I don’t know what we are, he hasn’t formally rejected me, only said he doesn’t want a mate.

Happy, Sophie and I are standing not far from them, we are all quiet.

” So, what are you doing for your birthday, Amara,” Jay asks, happily. I sigh and glance over at Sophie.

” We are having a small celebration later,”

” Celebration, why wasn’t I invited,” Ahyan frowns, squinting his eyes at me.

” Amara is our girl, we don’t need an invite to her party,” Jay winks at me.

” Let’s go, guys, we have things to do, it’s gonna be lit!” Sophie says excitedly turning to us, Cole grabs her hand, they are talking and she’s blushing.

” Okay babes, text me when you’re done,” He k****s her cheek, she rolls her eyes as she says something.

Ahyan suddenly grabs my arm and I feel tingles and goosebumps on my skin.

He k****s my forehead softly ” Can we talk later, please?”

I bite my lips and he traces his thumb over them, all this feels s****l.

” Okay,”

We start to walk but a disgusting voice stops us, and we turn to Debra and her two bimbos.

” Congratulations for winning the bet,Prince Ahyan,”
