The Ryland Boys -
Chapter 41
Tonight was Jax’s last fight.
I say last because after he marries Lindsay, he’ll be resigning.
The b***h is making him leave because she’s jealous of the fact all the girls are constantly drooling and dreaming of him.
“Come on, lets go!” Benson called up the stairs.
I walked Lucas to the truck and buckled him in while Mason pulled Amanda in the back with him.
Carter came running out brushing his sleeve and then sitting on the other side of Lucas.
Alison came hurrying out and Benson followed.
Benson took the freeway and Alison was on the phone with a coworker about some sellers dropping out of a deal.
I looked back at Amanda who was playing thumb war with Mason and laughing when he messed up. “Dammit.” He muttered.
Staring down at Lucas, I watched him adjust the dinosaurs claws upward.
That was the last calm moment for the next forty eight hours.
Everything went black and I opened my eyes listening to Amanda’s cry.
I looked around to see Lucas staring at us all holding on and freaking out.
The car was upside down and I unbuckled my seat and took Lucas out, “Sit right here.” I said pointing to the floor away from the traffic flying by.
He nodded and I looked to Amanda who was crying at the metal piece in her leg.
f**k.
I unbuckled her and stared at Mason who was laying on the roof by my feet, he’s unconscious.
“Amanda wake Mason up.” I said crawling to Carter and smacking his face a few times until he opened them and screamed loud.
I held his face staring at his eyes “You’re okay, you’re okay but we have to get off the freeway.” I said to him.
He freaked out some more and Alison came up behind me, her hands gashed and cut up “Carter, hunny come on.” She said unbuckling his belt.
“Where’s Benson?” I asked looking around for him.
She stared around and then got out the truck “Ben!” She shouted.
“f**k!” She cried out.
Pulling Carter out, I looked to Amanda who was helping Mason.
“Come with me Lucas.” I said gesturing for him to follow me.
He nodded and took my hand.
There was four lanes of traffic flying. We sat in the far left and I walked Lucas and Carter to the middle divider beside Amanda and Mason.
Alison looked to me and I left the boys with Amanda dropping to look down at Benson, “Go with Lucas he’s terrified. I’ll make sure Bensons okay.” I said to her watching her nod and hurry to the middle divider.
Benson laid on the street a few feet ahead of the accident and his left side and face where shredded.
He was bleeding and unconscious but still breathing.
Ahead of us was a white car that had the back smashed up and it was on its side.
I lifted Bensons arm and pulled up, Alison came to me and I shook my head “Stay there!” I shouted furiously at her.
My mind wracking the thought that if a car hit us now, Alison would be safe and alive still.
That’s all that matters.
Lucas has his mommy.
I pulled Benson and laid him up against the divider beside Alison. “No ones come out of the car yet.” I said to amanda who was holding her bleeding leg.
Mason was still out and Carter has PTSD or something.
Alison took my wrist “The ambulance will help.” She said shaking her head.
I eyed the cars flying by “They’ll die before then.” I took my wrist “I’ll be okay.” I said running to the white car.
“Help!” The scream was loud and scared, I pulled myself up and stood at the top pulling the door open.
A woman stared at me with her body squished into the steering wheel, “Get my kids, get my kids!” She shouted frantically.
I moved to the back seat door and opened it staring at the three kids.
One was a kid around Lucas’s age, the other probably nine and the last a small preteen girl.
I dropped down carefully and unbuckled the preteen giving her face a light smack, she opened her eyes and freaked out before crying “Hey sweetie it’s okay, I need you to be strong and help me get your siblings okay?” I asked.
She nodded and I unbuckled her giving her a boost.
She sat on the top and I handed her the youngest first.
The girl sat him beside her, “Okay your brothers going to be a bit heavy, I need you to put all your strength in.” I said.
Lifting the brother who was passed out, I watched her try to pull him up “I can’t! He’s too heavy!” She cried.
“Come on Natalia! Pull baby.” The mom said while fighting her tears.
The girl pulled her brother and I pushed, “I got him.” She said.
Pulling myself up, I jumped down “Push him to me I’ll catch him.” I told her.
She pushed her brother and I caught him running and putting him to the middle divider.
Taking her hand I helped her down “Go to your brother and stay there! Don’t move.” I said watching her nod and take the small brothers hand running to the divider.
Going around the car, I slammed my heel into the front windshield and the glass broke. I crawled in and stared at the mom “What’s your name?” I asked her.
She was frantic “My kids.” She asked worried. “They’re all safe and good. Now help me get you out so that they have their mother.” I said to her watching her push hard against the steering wheel.
I pulled her to the side, shifting her body toward me and she cried out as a cracking sound came “f**k!” She yelled.
“Breaking a few ribs is worth being there for their graduation and wedding day and seeing your first grandchild, come on.” I said watching her nod and cry as more ribs broke.
She was free and I pulled her from the glass windshield walking her to the divider, a semi truck flew past us missing us by a second while it rode the truck and the white car down the freeway.
In a minute, the two cars exploded and the semi tipped before exploding with the cars. The heat flushing over us and I blocked my face staring at the mom who was watching the vehicles burn.
I felt my heart quicken and listened to the screams for me, Alison’s was the loudest and it sounded like she’d been shot.
Walking the mom to view with her kids, they cried and ran to us. I stared at Alison who leaned back into the divider crying and then breathing a heavy breath placing a hand to her chest.
Four cop cars came down the freeway with three ambulance trucks and they parked in a line blocking three lanes and placing cones.
Laying the mom down, I watched her kids cry and hug her. An officer came to me “You with them?” He asked.
I shook my head “No I’m with them.” I said pointing to Alison and Carter.
He nodded and looked to my shirt “You’re bleeding.” He said.
I ran my hand over my stomach, “No it’s not mine.” I said before going to Alison.
Benson was conscious and mumbling.
The ambulance truck drove off with him, Lucas and Alison.
The other one took the mom and her kids and the last one took Amanda, Mason and Carter with me.
I smiled at Amanda who was bleeding a lot and looking pale, “Babe, do I at least look hot while I’m dying?” She asked me laughing and then grunting in pain.
Scoffing I held her hand “You’re not dying idiot.” I said laughing through tears.
She nodded “Call my parents please.” She said before trying to go to sleep.
I would love to but my purse was just demolished and then incinerated.
When we arrived at the hospital, I dialed Amanda’s moms number and let her know before I called Lindsay.
“What do you want?” She asked annoyed.
I don’t have time for her s**t, “We had a bad car wreck and both Mason and Benson are in the hospital. Can I talk with Jax?” I asked.
She scoffed “Lindsay put Jax on the f*****g phone or I swear on Lucas’s head I’ll beat that child out of you the way James did to me.” I said in a rage fit of anger.
It got quiet before she said “It’s for you.” She said.
“Hello?” Jax asked.
His fight started twenty minutes ago, “Jax listen, I don’t want you to panic but there was an accident. Your dad and mason are both at the hospital with us and I think Carters really f****d up mentally.” I said listening to the silence.
“What hospital?” He asked as I listened to him running, the sound of him getting in his Hummer came “The West Hills one.” I said listening to him say okay, “Pace your heart beat Jax, please.” I said listening to him pause and breathe “I’ll see you Norah.” He said turning the truck on.
It hung up and I eyed the kids sitting in the waiting room.
Going to them, I gave them a small smile “Hey.” I said softly.
They looked to me worried, “You kids have a dad, another mom? Someone I could call for you?” I asked.
The preteen nodded, “Our dads at work.” She said quietly.
I took their hands and walked them to the phone and as she dialed her dad, she began crying explaining to him what happen.
She hung up and stared at me “Thank you.”
Smiling I watched her give me a hug and knew, this was worth it. If I had died, it still would’ve been worth it.
I ran my hand over her hair “Come sit with us until your dad comes.” I said watching them nod and follow.
They sat with Lucas and Alison who was watching Carter carefully.
He fainted a while ago and he’s been asleep.
Amanda’s mom came running in with her dad following behind “Where is she? Is she okay?” She asked looking to me and then Alison.
I gestured to the double doors, “They’re not letting anyone in yet but she’ll be okay. Just a very large gash in her leg. She probably will be on crutches and bed rest for a while.” I said watching them breathe.
“Sit, I’ll get you guys some water.” I said quietly to make sure I didn’t wake Carter.
Alison stared at Amanda’s mom and introduced herself.
I grabbed ten bottles of water and walked to them handing them to everyone.
A man walked over and Natalia stood rushing to him and hugging him. “Natalia, where’s your mom?” He asked looking to the other two of his kids staring at Alison and Carter.
“She’ll be okay. I had to break a few of her ribs to get her out of the seat but she’ll be good.” I said to him holding my hand out.
He shook it confused, “I’m Norah, have a seat, I’ll get you a water. They’ll call for you soon.” I said watching him sit with his kids.
I grabbed him a water and handed it to him.
Alison introduced herself and Lucas was playing with the other young boy around his age.
“Mom?” Jax hurried over and I watched Alison jump from her seat and hug Jax tightly.
She pulled back and stared at him “They’ll be okay. Your dads in a lot of pain, Masons got a broken shoulder but he’ll be okay.” She said before looking to Carter.
Her eyes hung over him “Carters been waking up freaking out and passing out again.” She sighed.
Jax looked her over “You’re okay? Lucas? Norah?” He asked looking over Lucas and then staring at me.
I gave him a small smile, “Wonder woman.” I said watching him walk over and pull me into a hug.
Hugging him back, he looked around “Where’s Amanda?” He asked looking to the seats. “She’s getting stitched up. She got a gash in her leg but she’ll be okay too.” I said watching him nod.
“Jax Ryland.” Natalia’s dad said standing and shaking his hand.
Jax stared at him “Moris Framer.” He said surprised. “It’s an honor to meet you.” Jax said.
Who?
Who’s Moris Framer?
Alison eyed Moris “Oh god I didn’t even notice you with hair and the facial hair.” She said apologetically.
He looked from Jax and Alison to his kids, “Yeah, I’ve turned to a family man now.” He said smiling softly at his sons.
I was confused.
Alison looked to me “This is last years World Champion fighter.” She said smiling from me to Moris.
Oh, oh s**t.
Wait, no wonder he looks famous, Jax had a poster of him in his room.
“Do you still fight?” Alison asked him.
He shook his head and sat as Jax sat beside me near Carter.
“Gave that up, I do help great fighters train to be world champions though. If you’re interested. I owe her more than I could give.” He said gesturing to me.
Jax shook his head and I nodded “He’d love to.” I said watching him look to me and watch my face before smiling softly and looking to Moris.
Alison smirked “How exciting?” She said.
A doctor walked out “Ryland family?” He asked.
Alison and Jax stood and I gestured to Carter and Lucas “I got them.” I said watching them nod and go with the doctor through the double doors.
Moris was staring at his kids so lovingly, “I’m starting to think you’re just bad luck.” Lindsay said sitting beside carter.
Oh god, “Could you just shut up and sit there for-” she cut me off “Moris! Oh how cool, what are you doing here?” She asked.
He stared at Lindsay with a bit of annoyance and her joyful smile.
“My wife got in a car wreck.” He said bluntly.
I watched her nod “My fiancés family did too. You met my fiancé Jax Ryland?” She asked.
He stared at me and I gave Lindsay an annoyed look “He’s trying to enjoy time with his kids and worrying about his wife Lindsay, could you not be so Lindsay?” I asked her softly.
She eyed me “Jax waiting in one of the empty rooms for a quickie with you?” She asked crossing her arms over her chest.
I eyed her in disbelief turning to Moris I gave him an apologetic look “I’m so sorry.” I said watching him shake his head ignoring Lindsay.
“Lindsay.” Amanda’s mom said.
She eyed her “Ew.” Lindsay said.
I c****d an eyebrow and looked to her leaning down and gripping both sides of her chair as I kept my face an inch from hers staring between her stupid eyes, “Shut up or I’ll pull that bull piecing straight from your nose and watch you bleed all over your new top.” I said quietly.
She scowled and shoved me hard.
“You can’t f*****g touch me, I’m pregnant!” She said catching attention of others.
I watched the security guard eye her.
She shoved me again and I looked to him watching him walk over “Is this lady bothering you?” He asked me.
I nodded “She threatened me and my family.” I said gesturing to Amanda’s parents and then Natalia who nodded in agreement.
The guard grabbed Lindsay’s arm walking her out the hospital.
Sitting down next to Carter, I looked at Nance, Amanda’s mom. “She’s worse than amanda describes her.” She said.
I scoffed “You have no idea.” I said sighing.
Moris watched me carefully “Where do I know you from?” He asked crossing his arms over his chest.
I eyed him and then shrugged “I did a few pictures for one of the fights. They hung it in the hall of fame.” I said but it was more like a question.
He eyed me and shook his head, “No it’s something else.” He said thoughtfully.
Okay.
“You’re the girl who was auctioned for five hundred thousand dollars.” He said staring at me nodding.
Oh god.
I laughed “Oh, you came?” I asked him.
He shook his head, “My brother did, he had a video of the auction completely surprised. That’s the highest paid for one of those.” He said smiling.
I smiled blushing, “Not as five hundred thousand outside the dress and makeup.” I said laughing.
Nance scoffed “Worth a million if you ask me.” She said shaking her head.
I gave her a wink.
“This girls saved more lives than that man right there.” She said pointing to the doctor walking past us.
Moris stared at the doctor then me.
“You like saving lives?” He asked me giving me a curious stare.
I leaned back in the chair “I just know that sometimes it’s better not to wait for help, it’s better to be the help.” I said crossing my arms over my chest.
Lucas leaned forward and stared at Moris, “I drowned and she saved me.” He said nodding and giving me a thumbs up.
I gave him one back, “I’m the nanny.” I said to him.
Carter made me jump as he jolted up and shouted “Dad!” while shaking.
Moving in front of him, I held his face in my hands looking to his eyes, “Hey Carter, were okay. Everyone’s okay.” I said watching him look down at me. “Norah hold on!” He shouted at me shaking.
I nodded “Go to sleep Carter.” I said moving his head to my lap and running hand over his arm.
Alison came out and smiled at me softly “Ben’s okay, he’s awake and conscious but they told him to rest. Jax is with Mason right now.” She said staring at Carter.
She knelt down and stared at Carter’s sleeping face running her hand over the side smiling “They said his shock will wear off by tomorrow evening.” She said softly.
The doctor walked out “Framer family?” He asked.
Moris stood and took his kids, “two at a time.” The doctor said.
He stared at his kids and I looked at him “I’ll watch them, I promise.” I said watching him ponder before nodding and taking the older brother.
Natalia sat with her younger brother and Lucas.
Alison asked if I could switch seats and I nodded lifted Carters head gently and she sat holding him and staring at him smiling.
Nance smiled softly at me as I took a seat beside her, “Did you save them all?” She asked smirking at me.
I laughed “Uh your daughter saved Mason.” I said but she scoffed “But you saved her huh?” She smirked.
Alison laughed “She saved them all.” She said shaking her head watching me.
“Lindsay got escorted out.” I said to Alison.
She made a disgusted face “Good.” She said sighing.
Nance took my hand squeezing it, “I know Amanda’s going to want to see you so we’ll be quick.” She said as the doctor called for them.
They stood and followed as Jax came out, he looked to me “Masons asking for you.” He said as he sat beside me.
I looked to the kids, “I’ll wait.” I said watching him nod.
Moris came out ten minutes later and sat while Natalia took her baby brother following a nurse through the doors.
He sighed and ran his hand over his face.
“She wants to see you before you leave.” He said to me.
I nodded “I’ll go after your kids if that’s okay.” I said watching him nod “Absolutely.” He replied.
Alison looked me over “You scared the s**t out of me.” She said scowling at me.
I’m sure I did, I scared the s**t out of myself.
Jax was looking at me curiously, “You did it again.” He said low. “What?” I asked.
He leaned forward and stared at Moris and his kid, “You saved them. You went into the car and saved them didn’t you?” He asked me glaring a bit.
I’m going to get s**t for this. I nodded “If I didn’t, they’d all be gone. I don’t regret it.” I said watching him sigh.
“Norah, I told you, if you get in an accident, you run. Get the f**k out of there.” He said low.
I nodded “Fine, if it ever happens, I’ll leave.” I said watching him eye me. “See, I know you’re lying.” He said watching me carefully.
Alison smirked “She’s a hero Jax, she’ll always put others before herself.” She said watching her son who was staring at me worried.
“I don’t want her to be a hero, I want her to be alive.” He said furrowing his eyebrows.
I smiled, “I am, and I’ll make to a hundred Jax, don’t worry. I still have to be a kickass single mother of three.” I said c*****g an eyebrow at him.
He broke into a small laugh and nodded, “Hopefully not single.” He said low and sat back.
“I’m going to check on Mason, let him see that I didn’t burn up in flames or get Han Solod again.” I said laughing as Lucas grinned at me.
Moris looked to me confused, Alison laughed “The first time they got in an accident, Norah-“
I headed through the double doors and down to room thirteen.
Pushing the door open, I walked in and stared at Mason who was watching tv, “You look great. Heard you saved a family, Carter, Lucas and my dad.” He said smirking.
I shrugged “No big deal.” I said laughing.
He sighed “It’s good to see you’re okay. How’s Amanda?” He asked worried.
I smiled “She’ll be good, she’s just going to have a bit of hard time walking with her crutches for a while.” I said handing him the bag of chips on the counter.
His smile grew “You see my dad yet?” He asked.
I shook my head, “Alison said he’s really torn up.” I said frowning.
Mason sighed “I realized Jax’s last fight was f****d over. Now he can’t even end it with a bang.” He said looking at the tv.
“I think he’ll be okay. Moris offered him an internship to help get him to be a champion. I told him to take it and he did. Hopefully Lindsay will get over it.” I said watching him nod.
He moved his eyes to me, “He asked me if he should just break it off with Lindsay and ask you to marry him.” He said drinking his water.
“What?” I asked.
He nodded “I said ‘duh what the f**k do you think?’ and he got all antsy and left.” He said staring at me.
Oh great.
“I’m going to check on your dad, you doing good?” I asked him.
Mason looked to the bag of snacks “Just hand me that and I will be.” He smirked and I grabbed the bag placing it next to him.
Kissing his cheek, I headed out the door shutting it behind me as his two buddies came and said hi before going in to see Mason.
Going to the hall, I borrowed some money from Jax and then went to the gift shop grabbing a book I’ve seen Benson read a hundred times and a cuddly giraffe for Amanda.
I walked over to Bensons room and opened the door carefully, walking inside and shutting it behind me.
He was laying in bed with bandages and gauze wrapped up over him. Medicine all over his left side and his l*p torn up.
He was asleep, I felt sad that he was alone though, he seemed like he loved the solitude but I think it’s just because he doesn’t have anyone who cares to socialize or be around him.
Sitting in the chair beside his bed, I opened the book up and softly read the book out loud.
He woke up at chapter four and gave me a soft smile and sighed. “Want me to stop?” I asked softly.
He furrowed his eyebrows shaking his head, I smiled and opened the book back up continuing to read the book.
Somewhere between chapter ten and twelve I fell asleep.
“Amanda wants to see her.” Alison’s voice was soft.
Her foot steps came, I lifted my head up off the bed staring at Benson who was awake and staring down at me smiling.
I sat up and smiled back at him placing Be book down on the table “She’s okay?” I asked Alison who nodded.
Standing, I looked down at Benson, “You should probably rest. Goodnight.” I said watching him nod.
Going out the door with the giraffe, I shut the door behind me and went to Amanda’s room.
She was asleep though now, “Awe come on.” I said softly sighing.
The nurse apologized, “She was in pain so we just put her to sleep for a bit.” She said.
Rude.
I nodded “Thank you.” I said placing the giraffe beside her and kissing her forehead. “See you when you wake up.” I said before turning and going out to the woman’s room.
I knocked and then opened it watching her lay with a puppy stuffed animal to her face. “Does it smell like your babies?” I asked her softly.
She smiled at me and I shut the door behind me walking over and sitting beside her “Yeah, their dad took them home to sleep. Thank you so much.” She said choking back tears.
“You don’t have to thank me. I am more than happy to have helped.” I said watching her take my hand and hold it.
I sat with her for about an hour getting to know her, her name was Taylor.
When I did finish, I headed out the room to let her sleep. I even left my name and number for her in case she ever wanted to talk or needed a babysitter.
Going to the hall, I sat in one of the chairs.
Everyone was gone and I eyed the empty chair sitting and sighing.
Too much.
I’m exhausted.
