CHAPTER 045

The next morning when I got up Noah and I did spend a couple of hours in the gym before we

headed to the dining room for breakfast.

Anna was waiting for me and put the day planner next to me.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, especially since you're not leaving the castle at the moment but there's a lot of stuff happening around the territory that usually requires a royal to attend. We've got some parties, meetings and weddings." Anna said.

"We've also got a credible threat coming and she's not going to be put in any situation that is deemed dangerous." Noah said.

"I'm not suggesting that she be put in a dangerous situation. But if you could at least call

these people and extend your best wishes for the weddings and talk to the people holding

these meetings, maybe attend the meetings over the phone, or something like that. That will go a long way." Anna said.

"Alright. I can do that. Maisie and I have training this morning but otherwise I can do it after

lunch." I said.

"Absolutely. I'll send out messages to these people and let them know that's what's going to happen." She said, leaving the room.

"I also heard that there's a bit of conflict erupting in the territory." Maisie said.

"What sort of conflict? Why isn't anyone telling me any of this?" I asked.

"Probably because they don't want to upset you. They might be afraid of how you handle it after the way you handled Felix." Maisie said.

"Oh yeah. Maybe." I said.

"From what I hear, you handled the Felix situation with class." Noah said. But I just smiled at him.

That was the first time I had taken a life and I hated it. It was the worst feeling I ever had.

I know that it's bound to happen again, but the first time is definitely the worst.

I heard someone ring the doorbell but we stayed in the dining room eating breakfast when Anna came back.

"Who was at the door?" I asked.

"It's Avery. She's still standing out there. I don't know if you want to talk to her." Anna said. 1/4

"Tell her that I'm busy." I said, going back to eating my breakfast.

I could tell that Anna was hesitant about doing that and Maisie and Noah were looking at

each other strangely.

"What?" I snapped at them.

"She was your best friend. For a long time." Noah said.

"And then she lied to me. She kept secrets from me. Secrets that she knew would hurt and would hurt our relationship. She knew that being honest with me to begin with would keep her ass out of trouble....I'm not saying that I will never speak to her again. I'm just not ready yet." I

said.

"Alright." He said.

So Anna left the room again and we finished eating breakfast.

Maisie and I spent a couple of hours training in the ballroom that morning before I had to go

to the office and make a hell of a lot of phone calls.

I hated talking on the phone but it was what I had to do.

I was sitting in on meetings and crap like that. It was really tedious sort of work but it had to

be done. They needed a royal's permission before they made any final decisions.

After dinner I went to my room to have a shower and get dressed in my pajamas and I sat at

the desk catching up on school work that needed to be done.

I'd started to fall behind because I'd been busy with a lot of different things lately. So I needed to make sure I hurried up and caught up with all this crap. I wasn't going to repeat the year. I was going to graduate as soon as possible. While I was sitting at the desk my phone started vibrating.

AVERY - Hey, are you free to talk?

ME- Not really. Catching up on school work.

AVERY - I know that you're really busy right now. But I want to see you. I really miss you.

ME - Do you understand how much it hurt when you betrayed me?

AVERY - Of course I do. I didn't mean to. I just didn't know how to tell you about Chloe and

Levi.

ME - No one gave me the courtesy of telling me. You all snuck around behind my back. Including Chloe and her parents. They didn't even tell her that it would be best that they come

to me and tell me before I found out any other way. That really f*****g hurt.

AVERY - I know. But I heard that they might be leaving the pack.

ME - Why would they be leaving the pack? They're my mother's best friends.

AVERY - Apparently your mother told them to. That's what I heard.

I didn't respond to that message, but instead I picked up the phone to call my mother. "Hello." She answered.

"Hi. I'm surprised you found the time to answer my call."

"I know. I'm really sorry sweetie. Things have been hectic around here."

"Yeah. Holidaying in California can be a real tiresome trip." I said.

"You know where we are?"

"Yeah. But we'll talk about that later. I heard that you kicked Lexie and Jacob out of the pack.” "No. I didn't kick them out. I told them that I will deal with them when I get back." She said.

"Isn't that the same thing? They think they're being kicked out."

"Do you want me to kick them out? I know what happened. I know what they did." She said.

"Of course you do. You know everything that happens around here. But I don't know. Chloe and I have known each other since we were babies and she can't help who her mate is. I know that we're not talking at the moment but that doesn't mean that we won't in the future. I don't know what I want to do about the situation." I explained.

"Alright. Well, I won't do anything until you know what you want to do. I understand that Lucas has been hanging around a bit."

"Yeah. And I'm sure you know why. The same way that you knew why you had to send Noah here." I said. I could practically hear her smiling over the phone.

"Well, yeah. I am wondering if there's a third one out there though."

"Oh goddess. Don't say that. It's tough enough with two." I scoffed so she started laughing.

"Sorry. But right now you've got two that you need to handle. I think Noah is alright but you need to work things out with Lucas. Either reject him or accept him.” Mom said. "When are you guys coming back? Why did you leave when you know that I need you?" I

asked, walking over to the window to sit down on the bench underneath it.

"Because it's in the rule book."

"What?" I asked, confused.

"There's a royal rulebook. There were a lot of conditions that came with me becoming Queen. And following the ancient rulebook was one of them. But I'm thinking that I might find the right ways to change it. I think leaving you at home at 16 to deal with this stuff was suitable in the 1600's but not now." Mom said.

"Is that what this is? A test?" I asked.

"It's more like a glimpse. So you can see what it's going to be like when you take over." She said.

"Well, hurry up and get back because I am not ready to take over yet. I want my life back." I said.

"It won't be for too much longer. You're doing a great job and we are keeping an eye on things." She said.

"Alright. I love you. And tell dads that I love them too." I said.

"I will. I love you and we'll see you soon." Mom said.

When I got off the phone I looked out the window at the towns that were lit up in the village as

far back as I could see from where I was.

I also saw dark shadows flying around high in the sky as the dragons were making sure that there wasn't any trouble heading this way or any trouble in the villages. They did that every night but they stayed up so high that no one ever noticed them.

They were the best protection that we could have.

Noah then came into the room but he left the door open.

"I just got a mind link from one of the warriors. Alpha Xavier was spotted not far from here." He announced.
