Fated to a Fae Chapter 14

After Rhett and Selenia fell asleep, I decided to get to work. We need to figure out who the hell did this to Rhett. I mind-linked Max to meet me in his office. When I get there, I knock and walk in. Max is sitting behind his desk while Kaden is standing with Silas. I nod at Max.

"You here about Rhett?" Max asks me.

"Yeah. I want to know who cursed him and what we are going to do about Nicole. It was obviously her who did this. As Silas said, she would have to give up her blood to put a fake mark on herself." I say.

"I sent Devin and Kai to find Nicole. She must know Rhett isn't cursed anymore, so I'm worried she ran." Max says.

"Where would she even go? Should we question her parents?" Kaden asks.

"Already on it. I sent our dads out to do it once we left Rhett's hospital room. Figured they could handle it." Max says.

"Well, hold on. Maybe we should save all the questioning." Silas says. We all turn to him.

"Why? Better get this out of the way now. Why wait?" Kaden says.

"It is to my understanding that Blake and Rhett's new mate has the ability to sense emotions and feelings, even when people are lying. We should wait for her to be present when we start questioning the pack members if you want the truth." Silas says.

"Or Max can use his Alpha command." Kaden says.

"Doesn't hurt to just have Selenia present. They may tell the truth to Alpha Maxton, but Selenia will be able to feel their emotions. Emotions say a lot about the truth. If they say they don't know where Nicole is, that could be true, but Selenia will be able to tell if it's because they had no idea Nicole was doing this or if they knew Nicole left and she just didn't tell them where she went." Silas says.

Max sighs and looks at me. "It's up to you."

"No, it's not. It's up to Selenia. She's her own person. She can decide for herself. Although, I doubt she'll say no, seeing as Rhett is also her mate now." I say.

“f**k, man. How are you doing with that? That's gotta be tough." Kaden says.

"You know, I'm actually okay. I spent my whole life expecting to share a mate with Rhett. My wolf was originally pissed and possessive of her when it came to Rhett, but I guess this curse thing must've been really strong to effect my wolf too. When Rhett and Selenia became mates, my wolf was calm, like it was the most normal thing in the world. It made me feel better about it. I mean, I am a little jealous that she's sleeping next to him right now instead of me, but this is how it's supposed to be." I tell them.

"Good. I'm glad you're okay. Also glad to find out Nicole isn't actually our new sister-in-law." Max says. Kaden scoffs.

"Tell me about it. I was ready to disown Rhett as both a brother and a nephew just so I wouldn't have to see her." Kaden says. We all laugh.

"Well, I'm going to head back to my cabin. You boys let me know if you need anything. I'm going to hang around the pack for awhile until this curse nonsense has been resolved. Just call out my name. I'll hear you." Silas says as he makes a portal to his cabin. We all say goodbye and he steps through. Just as the portal closes, the door to the office opens. Devin and Kai walk in, looking unimpressed.

"The b***h ran. Awhile ago, too. Rhett's room and her room barely smell of her anymore and there's no trail." Devin states as soon as Kai closes the door.

"I'll mind-link dad to bring Nicole's parents in for questioning and just hold them for now so they don't run too." Max says as his eyes gloss over.

"We should've done this earlier. Nicole shouldn't have been able to escape this easily. Did she even visit Rhett while he was asleep?" Devin asks.

"No, she didn't. Arthur was with him most of the time he was out in case he woke up in a rage. We was only gone the day he woke up because Max was there and Max can hold him down easier than Arthur can. Arthur said she didn't come by once. Even the nurses say she didn't come near the clinic. Makes me think she probably ran the first day." Kaden says.

"Well, if she knew the curse would wear off if he was asleep for so long, maybe she decided it was best to get out before we figured it out." I say.

"Yeah, but we should've noticed it was weird she didn't come around while he was out." Devin says.

"I figured it was because she knew we all hated her guts." I say.

"You're new to the whole mate thing. Real mates would not be able to stay away if the other one is hurt or in a deep coma-like sleep. If Selenia was in a coma and Reef was with her around the clock and he didn't like you, would you stay away?" Max asks.

"f**k no." I say angrily.

"Exactly. Because of the mate bond. Clearly, Nicole didn't feel that pull. That need to be with your mate until they are better. Just look at how Atlas was with Reef. Never left him once except for when Reef was in surgery. Now Atlas is following Reef around as if he's a china doll, ready to shatter at any moment. The mate bond makes you crazy like that." Max says. I nod. He's right. Atlas has not left Reef's side for even a moment. We can tell it's starting to annoy Reef.

"Alright. So we have Nicole's parents. Anyone else who might know where she went?" Devin asks.

"I've never noticed her having friends. Like, at all. I don't think she had anyone other than her parents and Rhett." Kaden says.

"That's not true. She's in the warrior building all the time." Kai says. Max made Kai the head warrior after he took over as Alpha. He overlooks all of our warriors, including top warriors like

Rhett and I.

"Do you know who she goes to see when she's there?" Max asks.

"I try not to pay her any attention. She flirts with all the warriors. But I have seen her leave one apartment a couple of times while I do inspections." Kai says.

"Whose apartment?" Kaden asks.

"Oscar Johnson and Aiden Miller. Have no clue who she went to see, but it's one of them." Kai tells us.

"Alright. Let's go pay them a visit." Max says. We all agree and head out the door.

Before we went to the warrior building, we stopped at the clinic to get Selenia. She was awake when we got there and said she was worried when I wasn't sitting where I had been when she fell asleep. We explained to her what we were doing and she immediately agreed. Rhett protested her leaving, but she promised to come back.

As we approach the warrior building, warriors stand up all around us and bow their heads to Max, Kaden and Devin. They seem used to it now. Before, I could tell it made them feel awkward, but now? They hold their heads high, knowing the power they hold with their people.

Kai enters the building first, clearing the area for Max. Not that he needs to. People move out of the Alpha's way on their own.

We go up the stairs to the third floor. Kai shows us to Oscar and Aiden's apartment. Kai knocks and shouts through the door.

"Aiden! Oscar! Open up! Alpha Maxton is here!" Kai shouts. We hear footsteps approaching the door before a lock clicks and the door swings open. Oscar looks at us with wide eyes, looking a bit shocked to see everyone here. His eyes land on Max and he immediately bows his head.

"Alpha Maxton! What a surprise! Please, come in." Oscar moves to the side to let us in. "Beta Kaden, Gamma Devin. Kai, Blake. Miss Selenia."

"Thanks for letting us in, Oscar. We don't mean to intrude." Max says, looking around the apartment. I move Selenia in front of me so she can get a feel for Oscar's emotions. No one but our inner circle knows about her powers yet.

"I was not expecting company. Please excuse the mess. Aiden isn't the tidiest roommate." Oscar

says.

"It's not a problem, Oscar. Aiden is still getting used to having a roommate. You are still new."

Kai states.

"How long have you been a warrior, Oscar?" Max asks him.

"I finished my training six months ago when I turned 18." Oscar answers.

"Do you have a mate?" Kaden asks.

"No sir, I do not." Oscar says. I see Max looking at Selenia to see if she feels anything off. She

nods her head, indicating he's telling the truth.

"Have you had any she-wolves over here before?" Kaden asks. Oscar gulps.

"Um, yes. Is-is that...not allowed?" Oscar stutters.

"Who have you had over?" Kaden asks.

"Natalie. My girlfriend. I swear, I didn't know that wasn't allowed." Oscar starts to panic. Selenia

flinches.

"Oscar, calm down. Your girlfriend is allowed to visit anytime she wants. We wanted to know if Nicole had come by at any point." Max says. Oscar sighs.

"Oh, thank goddess. I thought I was in trouble. But Nicole does come over. Her and Aiden hook

up all the time." Oscar tells us. Max looks at Selenia and she nods.

"Where is Aiden?" Devin asks. Oscar points to a closed door.

"In there. Probably sleeping. That's all he does when he's not making a mess or training."

Max walks over to the door and throws it open without knocking. The door hits the wall with a

loud thud. The lump under the covers moves around.

"What the fk, Oscar? Don't you f***g knock?" A voice comes from the sheets.

"I'm not Oscar and no, I don't knock." Max says.

"Whoever you are, f**k off. I'm trying to sleep." Aiden says, not even bothering to look at who

had just entered his room.

Max motions to Kaden. Kaden moves to the side of the bed and pulls the blanket down off of

Aiden.

"Hey! Who the f**k do you think you are?!" Aiden yells before going as white as a ghost. "B-beta Kaden! I'm so sorry, I didn't know..." Aiden looks around the room and his eyes go wide when they land on Max. He stumbles out of bed, standing in only his boxers as he bows his head. "Alpha Maxton! Please, forgive me. That was incredibly rude of me. It will not happen again."

"Put some clothes on and get out here." Max says, turning back to where the rest of us are still standing. Aiden quickly grabs his pants off the floor and pulls them on before rushing out of his room. He has a shirt in his hand and slips it on as he stands next to Oscar.

"We're going to cut right to the chase. Oscar here told us you and Nicole have been hooking up.

How long has that been going on?" Max asks.

"Uh, about six months. I don't know the exact amount of time." Aiden says. Max looks to

Selenia and she nods.

"Did you know she was with Rhett?" Kaden asks.

"She told me they were fooling around, but weren't serious." Aiden says. Selenia goes stiff and I

know it's because she doesn't want to think of Rhett and Nicole together.

"When was the last time you saw Nicole?" Kaden asks.

"She's been really flaky the past two weeks, never wanting to come around anymore. But she

came by about a week ago to tell me she's be leaving the pack for while." Aiden tells him.

Selenia nods at Max.

"Did she say where she was going?" Devin asks.

"I asked her where she was going and all she said was she'd tell me when I needed to know.

Then we had s*x and she left. Haven't seen her since." Aiden says. Selenia nods at Max again

and he sighs.

"Alright. Thanks guys. Sorry to barge in on you like this." Max says.

"It's not a problem, Alpha." Oscar says.

"If I may ask, why are you looking for Nicole?" Aiden asks.

"She's done something to another pack member and we're trying to figure out why." Kaden

says.

"Oh, okay." Aiden nods. He looks oddly calm about it. I look down at Selenia and she has her

eyes narrowed at him.

"Do you know what Nicole did?" Selenia asks him suddenly.

Uh, no. I don't." Aiden laughs nervously.

"You're lying." Selenia says. Max turns his head back to Aiden, his body language changed to

anger.

"No, I'm not. Nicole didn't tell me anything that she did to Rhett." Aiden says. Selenia laughs.

"Well, there you go. You don't even need my gift to see that lie. We didn't tell you Nicole did

anything to Rhett. We said she did something to a pack member. You just outed yourself there." Selenia says. Aiden goes pale.

"Shit." He mutters as he backs away. Max looks like he's fuming.

"Kai, please take Aiden to the cells. He can be held there until we are ready to question him

further." Max says.

"Yes, Alpha." Kai responds and takes Aidein by the arm. A few guards appear at the door to help Kai with Aiden. Max turns back to Oscar.

"Did you know anything about Nicole putting a curse on Rhett?" Max asks.

"No, Alpha. I swear I don't know anything." Oscars shakes his head frantically. Max looks at

Selenia.

"He's telling the truth. He's genuinely confused about all of this." Selenia says. Max nods. "I'm sorry for all of this Oscar. Take a few days off from training. And do not mention this

interaction to anyone. Nothing about Aiden, Nicole, the curse, or Selenia's gift." Max says in his Alpha command.

"Yes, Alpha." Oscar bows his head in submission. Max nods and turns to leave the apartment. We all follow. Once in the lobby of the warrior building, Max turns to us. "Aiden may not know where she went, but he knows Nicole did something to Rhett. This is our top priority." Max says and we all agree. We leave the warrior building and I tell my brothers I will see them later. I already know Selenia is itching to get back to Rhett. And Rhett needs to be filled in on what we just learned. This should be interesting.
