SEBASTIAN

The whole day has been exhausting. Despite the tiring day, I'm glad that Blaire finally regained consciousness. I'm worried that what happened would cause her more trauma than she already has. But I'm relieved that everything is over now. I can finally fix our family without getting worried about their safety.

Catherine was dead, and Grant was already in jail. I have no idea how the two got to know each other, but it doesn't matter, especially since I don't care. What's important now is that I can finally rebuild my family and start a new life with them. Even though I'm always beside Blaire, I still have a lot of things to do with my business.

I was in that situation when I heard a soft knock coming from the door. Thinking it was one of the nurses, I quickly stood up and opened the door. Only to be disappointed to see Maximus grinning right outside the door. "Hey, how is it going?" he greeted.

"Isn't it too late for a visit?" I asked, clearly irritated.

"I have life too, you know? This is my only free time," Maximus said as he pushed the door open and walked inside. "Well, aren't you interested in what I found?"

"If it's about your women's escapades, I'm not interested," I dismissed.

"Aw, you're a changed person now, aren't you? I remember back in the day we used-fck! That hurts, man!" A moment of silence hangs in the air. "What?" Maximus asked once again. "Oh, come on. She's sleeping. She won't hear us," he added. My stomach twisted with unease as I listened to Maximus. "Whatever it is you want to say, say it now. I don't want you to disturb Blaire. She's resting."

Maximus smirked slightly. "Well, I had the liberty of peeking through Blaire's medical file," he started. "You did what? Why would you do that?" I asked, my confusion quickly turning to anger.

Maximus raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me, why wouldn't I? It's my hospital, jerk!"

I rolled my eyes, feeling my patience wear thin. "Do you check the records of every patient here in your hospital?" I asked sarcastically.

"Tsk! Do you want to hear it or not?" he shot back, irritated.

I let out a loud sigh. "Fine."

"Everything is fine. It seems her head injury has completely healed based on her CT scan," Maximus revealed.

My heart pounded in my chest. This was supposed to be good news, but a wave of nervousness washed over me. I couldn't explain it, but a part of me dreaded the thought of Blaire regaining her memories. "You don't look so happy," Maximus commented, eyeing me closely.

"What do you mean? Of course, I am. That's good news," I stammered, trying to mask my anxiety.

Maximus didn't seem convinced. "Yeah, it is. I'm expecting that she'll fully recover and regain her memory anytime soon."

I forced a smile, but my mind raced with conflicting emotions. "Thank you for letting me know," I managed to say, my voice sounding hollow even to my own ears.

Maximus watched me for a moment longer, his gaze piercing. "You haven't told her the truth, have you?" he asked, his tone softening slightly.

I smiled bitterly. "What for? As you said, she'll get her memories back soon. I'll just enjoy these remaining moments with her before she realizes how much she despises me."

Maximus shook his head slightly, a mix of pity and frustration in his eyes. "You can't keep running from the truth, Sebastian. When her memories come back, it'll be even harder for her if she feels deceived."

I looked away, unable to meet his gaze. "I know. But I can't bear to see the look in her eyes when she remembers everything. The pain, the betrayal... It's selfish, I know, but I just want to hold onto this a little longer." Maximus sighed. "You're right; it is selfish. But I completely understand. Just remember, if you keep this longer than it should, you might eventually lose your only chance to make everything right."

I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. "I'm aware of that."

With that, Maximus left, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I returned to Blaire's room, standing in the doorway and watching her sleep. Her face was peaceful, a stark contrast to the turmoil within me.

As I sat down beside her bed, Blaire stirred, her eyes fluttering open. "Sebastian?" she murmured, her voice still groggy from sleep.

"Hey," I whispered, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "How are you feeling?"

"Better," she said softly, her eyes searching mine. "Did something happen? You look worried."

I hesitated, then decided to be honest. "Maximus said your head injury has completely healed. He expects you to regain your memories soon."

Blaire's expression shifted. She quickly looked away, avoiding my eyes. "Well, that's good news," she said, forcing a smile on her face.

I know her smile. And I know the one she's showing me right now is fake. Did she start to recover her memories?

I studied her for a moment, my heart pounding with uncertainty. "Blaire, are you okay?" I asked gently, reaching out to take her hand.

She pulled away, her forced smile fading. "I'm fine, Sebastian. Just... a lot to process, you know?" She turned her face toward the window, her eyes distant.

The silence between us was thick with unspoken words. "If there's anything you're not telling me, you can."

"How about you, Sebastian? Is there something that you need to tell me?"

I was caught off guard by her question. I wasn't expecting that from her. Did she hear what Maximus and I were talking about?

"I'm not sure what you're talking about, love," I replied, followed by a nervous laugh.

"You said you were my husband. We were married, right?" she asked.

I looked into her eyes, searching for something that I couldn't explain. It was as if she was giving me a chance to come clean. I gulped and immediately shook off that thought from my head. I was probably getting paranoid because of what Maximus said. There's no reason for her to act like she doesn't know about her past if her memories truly came back.

"Yeah, we are. And I can't wait for us to be a family again," I said.

I'm already determined to savor this moment until it lasts. I'm sure I'm going to find the courage to tell her the truth along the way, but until then, I'm going to take care of her like a loving and devoted husband.
