Trapped with My Billionaire Ex-Husband -
Chapter 102
BLAIRE
A week had passed, and the doctor finally gave me the signal to discharge me. Though my gunshot wounds haven't healed completely, they're already less painful whenever I move. And every step of the way, Sebastian was there to help me up. However, I'm not sure whether I wanted to be around him or not. I know he's the one who saved me, and I'm grateful for that. But at the same time, I can't help but think that we're in this situation in the first place because of him.
If he didn't stop Catherine from thinking that he still had feelings for her, only to take them back as soon as he realized his true feelings for me, this wouldn't happen. Or will it?
I'm confused right now. I'm deeply thinking about whether I should tell him that my memories are back so we can move on with our lives. But somehow, there's also a part of me that wants to leave everything behind and start over. And if pretending that I still have no memories of the past equates to us living our lives peacefully without the burden of the past, I'm tempted to take it.
I blew a loud sigh as I continued to pack all my things inside the duffle bag.
"Is everything alright?" Sebastian asked when he noticed my mood.
I forced a smile on my face. "Yes, everything's fine."
He flashes me that million-dollar smile that can make every woman melt before walking closer to me and reaching for my hand.
"Blaze is so excited for you to come home. He wanted to come here, but I'm afraid he got too excited," he chuckled.
I immediately got worried. "Why? Did something happen to him? How's he's heart going?" I continuously asked questions in panic. It's too late before I realize that I shouldn't have said that.
Sebastian frowned, eyeing me suspiciously. He remained silent for a minute before speaking again. "He's fine," he said, still staring at me. "Wait, how did you..."
"You mentioned it before." I immediately cut him off, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I did," he replied, clearly trying to recall the conversation.
My heart raced as I tried to avoid his suspicious gaze. I rushed to pack my things, hoping to shift the conversation away from the uncomfortable topic.
"I'm done packing. Shall we go?" I asked, forcing a smile.
He didn't respond immediately; his eyes were still lingering on me with a mix of curiosity and doubt. But then, as if deciding to let it go, a smile spread across his face. He grabbed my bag for me. "Let's go," he said, leading the way out of the room.
We walked through the hospital corridors in silence, my mind a whirl of thoughts. The further we got from the room, the more I felt a mix of relief and anxiety. Sebastian seemed to relax, but I knew his suspicions weren't completely gone.
As we stepped outside into the warm afternoon sun, he turned to me, his expression softening. "I'm glad you agreed to stay in our house in the meantime."
"Is there any reason why I wouldn't agree? According to you, we're married, right?" I asked, checking how he would react to it.
"I'm just worried that you might feel uncomfortable staying in my house. Despite us being married, I'm practically a stranger to you," he said.
He's really a good liar, I thought as I glared at him. Let's see how long he will be able to sing that tune.
"If you say so." I shrugged my shoulders and walked past him. I can feel his prying eyes on my back. He's smart. I'm sure he already had suspicions.
We went to his car and drove to his house silently. He keeps on glancing at the rearview mirror as if trying to read what's going on inside my head.
"Do you want to grab something before we head home?" Sebastian asked, his tone gentle yet probing.
I shook my head, trying to keep my emotions in check. "No, I'm good. I just want to see my son," I replied, turning my gaze to the scenery outside the car window. I couldn't face him, not with the storm of thoughts swirling in my mind.
He seemed to sense my reluctance to continue the conversation. A heavy silence filled the car, the only sound being the hum of the engine and the occasional rustle of the trees outside. I could feel his eyes on me, concerned and questioning, but he respected my need for space.
The ride felt longer than it actually was, with each passing minute adding to the tension between us. When we finally reached the house, the familiar sight of the porch brought a bittersweet comfort. As we stepped out of the car, Sebastian moved to my side, his hand resting lightly on my back as if to offer support.
"Let's go inside," he said softly, his voice barely more than a whisper.
Before we even took a few steps, an idea suddenly sparked in my mind. "Actually..." I began, trailing off to catch Sebastian's attention.
He turned towards me, a frown creasing his brow. "What is it?"
I responded with a sweet smile, trying to mask my true intentions. "I suddenly crave a seafood boil. Would it be a hassle if you went back and grabbed one for our dinner?"
"Now?" he asked, confusion evident in his voice.
"If you don't want to, it's fine. It just popped into my head, and I suddenly craved it. But never mind, let's go inside. I'm sure Blaze is already waiting for us." I pretended to head inside, but it wasn't long before I heard him let out a loud sigh. "Wait," he called after me.
"Yes?" I asked, turning around with an innocent look on my face.
"I'll just ask Clifford to grab it," he suggested, still looking puzzled.
"There's no need for that." I quickly cut him off. "If you don't want to get it, it's fine. I understand," I said, flashing a sweet smile.
"No, it's nothing like that. Clifford can go."
"Sebastian, it's fine. As I said, if you don't want to get it for me, I understand." I could see the hesitation on his face, and I knew my plan was working. I didn't really crave a seafood boil, but I wanted to test how far he would go to fulfill his promise to give me whatever I wanted.
He looked torn for a moment before finally nodding. "Alright, I'll go get it myself.""
I watched him head back to the car, feeling a strange mix of triumph and guilt. He was willing to go to great lengths to make me happy, just as he had promised. But part of me wondered if I was being unfair by testing him like this when he was already trying so hard. Blaze's excited cries reached us even before we entered. "Mommy!"
As soon as we walked through the door, Blaze barreled into my arms, his tiny hands gripping me tightly. "Mommy, I missed you so much!"
I hugged him back, the warmth of his embrace momentarily easing the turmoil inside me. "I missed you too, sweetheart," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
"Mommy, is Daddy with you?" Blaze's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Yes, sweetheart," I replied, taking his hand and leading him into the house. "Daddy's just going to get something for dinner."
As we stepped inside, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling of unease. I had been testing Sebastian's commitment, but in doing so, I was also testing my own feelings for him.
Blaze ran ahead, excitedly showing me the toys he'd been playing with while I was away. I smiled and engaged with him, but my mind kept drifting back to Sebastian. He was out there, running an errand just to please me, and I couldn't help but wonder if I was being too hard on him.
Time seemed to drag as Blaze and I waited for Sebastian's return. My heart ached with the weight of the secrets I carried and the uncertainty of our future.
The restaurant that I'm referring to usually has a long line. An order sometimes took more than an hour before it got served. And since it's the weekend, that time will definitely double. They are very prominent around the area. He probably doesn't know that because he's used to having someone do everything for him.
"Welcome back, Mrs. Foster," Celia greeted me when I bumped into her after I settled Blaze into his room. "Thank you, Celia," I said back.
Celia was obviously surprised that I recognized her. But before she could even ask further questions, I immediately changed the subject.
"Did Sebastian mention where my room will be?" I asked Celia, trying to sound casual.
"Oh..." She seemed taken aback. "We all a*sumed you would share a room with him, so that's what we prepared."
I stayed silent for a minute, contemplating whether I should ask her to prepare another room for me. But my eagerness to push Sebastian until he told the truth was stronger.
"No, it's fine. I'll take Sebastian's room," I said with a determined smile.
Celia responded with a warm smile. "I already arranged your bags inside the closet, Mrs. Foster. I'm really happy that you and Mr. Foster finally sorted everything out," she commented before finally taking her leave.
It had been hours since Sebastian left, and he hadn't come back yet, which I had expected. I could already picture his frustrated face as he stood in the long line at the seafood place, determined to fulfill my sudden craving.
I stepped into the room, and a wave of familiarity washed over me. The scent, the arrangement- everything seemed untouched, as if time had stood still. The room was a mix of comfort and nostalgia, filled with memories both good and bad.
I walked over to the closet and found my bags neatly placed inside. Celia had done an excellent job, as always. I unpacked a few items, taking my time to absorb my surroundings. The bed was made perfectly, and the sheets were crisp and inviting. I couldn't help but wonder if Sebastian had thought about me every night he slept here or if he had ever regretted his actions.
My mind wandered to the conversations I had overheard, the lies, and the half-truths that had been my life for so long. The reality of our situation was complicated, and the weight of the past hung heavily over us. Yet, there was a part of me that wanted to believe in the possibility of a fresh start, even if it was just a fleeting hope.
As I sat on the edge of the bed, my thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. I looked up to see Blaze peeking in, his eyes wide with curiosity.
"Mommy, can I come in?" he asked, his voice tentative.
"Of course, sweetheart," I replied, my heart warming at the sight of him.
Blaze bound into the room and climbed onto the bed next to me. "Are you staying here with Daddy?"
I nodded, stroking his hair. "Yes, for now. How do you feel about that?"
He looked thoughtful for a moment before breaking into a smile. "I like it. I want us to be a family again."
I hugged him tightly, feeling a surge of emotion. "Me too, Blaze. Me too."
Blaze eventually fell asleep while lying down beside me. I called Celia to help me carry her back to his room. Once he's finally settled, I take a quick shower to freshen up. Even after I'm done, Sebastian hasn't come back yet. I glanced at the wall clock, and it's already almost midnight. I couldn't help but chuckle, imagining Sebastian's annoyed face as he waited for his order.
Since it's already late, I decided to go ahead and sleep. Sebastian is a grown man; he can take care of himself. I don't have to wait for him to come home, just like I used to.
