BLAIRE

Blaze was over the moon when he saw both of us picking him up from school. His eyes lit up, and he dashed towards us, his earlier disappointment forgotten in an instant. "Mommy! Daddy!" He shouted, his little legs carrying him as fast as they could.

Sebastian knelt down, arms wide open, ready to scoop Blaze into a big bear hug. I watched, my heart swelling with warmth, as our son launched himself into Sebastian's embrace, giggling uncontrollably. "I missed you so much!" Blaze said, his voice muffled as he buried his face into Sebastian's shoulder.

Sebastian stood up, lifting Blaze effortlessly into his arms. "I missed you too, buddy," he replied, his voice thick with emotion.

Blaze's excitement was infectious. He looked back at me, his eyes sparkling. "Mommy, did you and Daddy come to get me together?"

I nodded, a smile spreading across my face. "Yes, sweetie. We both wanted to be here for you."

His grin widened, and he wrapped his arms around Sebastian's neck, then reached out to grab my hand. "This is the best day ever!"

Sebastian and I exchanged a glance over Blaze's head, a silent understanding passing between us. For our son's sake, we could put aside our differences and work together. Seeing Blaze so happy reminded us of what truly mattered.

"Why don't we celebrate?" Sebastian suggested, looking at me with a twinkle in his eye. "How about we go get some ice cream?"

Blaze's eyes widened even more, if that was possible. "Yes! Yes! Ice cream!"

I chuckled, squeezing Blaze's hand. "Alright, ice cream it is. Let's go."

As we walked towards the car, Blaze chattering excitedly about his day at school, I couldn't help but feel hopeful. This moment, this sense of togetherness, was a step in the right direction. We still had a long way to go, but for now, we were making it work for our son, and that was all that mattered.

The drive to the ice cream parlor was filled with Blaze's animated recounting of his school day. He was eager to share every detail, from the story he read in class to the game he played during recess.

Sebastian glanced at me and smiled, silently communicating how precious these moments were. We pulled up to our favorite local spot, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor with colorful awnings and a cheerful atmosphere.

Blaze practically bounced out of the car, grabbing both of our hands and dragging us toward the entrance. The bell above the door jingled as we walked in, the familiar, sweet scent of freshly made waffle cones enveloping us.

"Three scoops of chocolate, please!" Blaze announced it eagerly to the server behind the counter.

I chuckled and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Let's start with one scoop, okay? You can always get more if you finish it."

Blaze pouted playfully but nodded in agreement. The server, a young woman with a warm smile, scooped up the ice cream and handed it to him.

Sebastian and I ordered our favorites and joined Blaze at a small, round table by the window. We watched him dig into his ice cream, his face lighting up with every bite.

Sebastian reached across the table and took my hand, his touch sending a familiar warmth through me. "I'm glad we can do this together."

I squeezed his hand, feeling a sense of unity that had been missing for so long. "Me too."

Blaze looked up from his ice cream, his face smeared with chocolate. "Mommy, Daddy, can we do this every day?"

Sebastian laughed, ruffling Blaze's hair. "That's a good idea, buddy. We should try that."

Blaze beamed, content with that promise. As we finished our ice cream and the afternoon sun cast a golden glow through the window, I felt a renewed sense of hope. We were navigating this complicated path together, one step at a time, for the sake of our son and maybe, just maybe, for ourselves too.

Our day didn't end with one scoop of ice cream. We also went to an amusement park, which Blaze enjoyed the most. It's almost dark when we finally decide to call it a day.

Blaze was already sleeping in the backseat when we parked outside my house. Sebastian offered to carry Blaze and tucked him to bed.

I couldn't help but feel warmth in my heart as I watched the two together. Sebastian volunteered to change Blaze's clothes. Once he's done, he places a gentle kiss on his forehead. "Good night, buddy," he whispered.

We went out of the room after he tucked him in. We were immediately engulfed by awkward silence once we were finally left alone.

It took us a few minutes before Sebastian cut through the silence. "I had a wonderful day, Blaire. Thank you."

"Ditto." I struggled to find the right words. I wanted to continue the conversation, but I didn't know where to start.

He cleared his throat. "I think I should go. Good night, Blaire," he said.

He turned and started walking toward the door. As I watched his back, a surge of courage overtook me.

"Would you like to spend the night here?" I blurted out, surprising even myself with the question.

He turned around and looked at me, his expression a mix of shock and curiosity. It was as if he had seen a ghost.

"Blaire, are you sure?" He asked, his voice filled with uncertainty and hope.

I nodded, taking a step closer. "Yes, I'm sure. Blaze would love to have you here in the morning. And... I think it would be nice for us too."

Sebastian hesitated for a moment, then slowly walked back towards me. "If this is about what happened in my office, you don't have to do this. If you're not comfortable, I can leave."

"No, I want you to stay," I said, my voice steady. "I have a spare room that you can use. That is, if you want to. If not, it's fine. I understand you're busy. You probably have a lot of things to do at home."

He smiled-a genuine, warm smile that reached his eyes. "'ll stay."

I'm not sure whether it's a good idea, but having him around gives comfort to my soul. We may not be ready to take the next step in our relationship, but at least we're getting there.

I suddenly felt hot under his intense gaze. I'm starting to think that I probably made a mistake by asking him to stay the night. Not because I don't trust him, but because I don't trust myself whenever I'm around him. "Come, I'll walk you to your room," I said, leading the way so I could put some distance between us.

As we walked down the hallway, I could feel his towering presence behind me. My heart was racing, and I couldn't deny the tension building between us. Each step felt heavy with unspoken words and unexpressed emotions. When we reached the guest room, I turned to face him, my pulse quickening. "Here you go," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper.

He stepped closer, his eyes locked on mine. "Blaire, are you sure this is what you want?"

I swallowed hard, feeling the electricity in the air. "Yes," I managed to say, though my voice trembled.

He nodded, but his eyes never left mine. "Goodnight, Blaire," he said, his voice deep and husky. "Goodnight, Sebastian," I replied, stepping back to leave.

But before I could turn away, he gently took my hand. "Wait," he said, his grip firm but tender. "Thank you for letting me stay."

His words touched something deep inside me, and I felt a surge of emotions. "You're welcome," I whispered, my eyes glistening with unshed tears.

He leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my forehead, lingering for a moment. "Sleep well," he murmured, releasing my hand.

I nodded, unable to speak, and watched as he closed the door behind him. Standing there in the dimly lit hallway, I felt a mixture of relief and longing. Having him so close yet so far was a bittersweet torment.

I returned to my room, my mind racing with thoughts of what could be. The mere thought of being in such close proximity to him made my heart flutter. I shook my head, trying to dispel the unnecessary thoughts lingering in my mind. Deciding I needed to clear my head, I opted for a quick shower. The water streamed down, easing the tension building up inside my body. I hoped that the cold temperature would be enough to put out the fire that had started burning within me.

As I stood under the water, I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the sensation of the droplets hitting my skin. But no matter how hard I tried, my thoughts kept drifting back to Sebastian. His touch, his words, the way he looked at me-it all swirled in my mind, refusing to be ignored.

I let out a deep sigh, feeling the frustration and longing intertwine. Was I making the right choice by asking him to stay? Was I ready to face the emotions I had been burying for so long? I didn't have the answers, but I knew that avoiding the issue wasn't an option anymore.

After my shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and stood before the mirror. My reflection showed someone caught between desire and restraint, someone who wanted to move forward but was held back by fear and uncertainty.

I slipped into my pajamas and crawled into bed, pulling the covers up to my chin. The silence of the house felt louder than ever, amplifying my thoughts. I wondered if Sebastian was having the same restless night and if he was thinking about me as much as I was thinking about him.

Sleep eluded me as my mind continued to wander. I thought about Blaze and the life we had built separately but together. I thought about the moments Sebastian and I had shared and the possibility of rekindling something that once burned so brightly. My body was tired, but my mind was in turmoil, preventing me from resting. After a few hours of lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, I blew a loud sigh and decided to grab some tea in the kitchen. I hoped it would be enough to calm my nerves and allow me to sleep. I slipped out of bed, wrapping a robe around me as I made my way down the hallway. The house was eerily quiet, the only sound being the soft padding of my footsteps on the wooden floor. As I approached the kitchen, I noticed a soft glow of light spilling out from under the door.

Pushing the door open, I froze in place. There, standing by the stove, was Sebastian. He was shirtless, his muscular back and broad shoulders illuminated by the dim kitchen light. The sight of him took my breath away, and for a moment, I couldn't move or speak. Sebastian turned around with a surprised look on his face. "Blaire," he said, his voice deep and smooth. "What are you doing up?"

"I couldn't sleep," I replied, my eyes involuntarily trailing over his toned torso. "I thought some tea might help.

He smiled, a faint twinkle in his eyes. "Great minds think alike. I was just making some for myself. Care to join me?"

I nodded, feeling my heart rate quicken. I moved closer, trying to keep my eyes focused on anything but him. The kitchen seemed smaller with him in it, his presence filling the room.

Sebastian handed me a mug, our fingers brushing lightly. The contact sent a jolt through my body, and I quickly pulled away, taking a seat at the kitchen island.

He poured himself a cup and joined me, standing beside each other as we both leaned against the island counter. We stay there in silence for a few moments, the air thick with unspoken words and lingering tension.

"I'm sorry if I startled you," he said, breaking the silence. "I didn't expect anyone to be up."

"It's okay," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "I guess we both have a lot on our minds."

He nodded, taking a sip of his tea. "Yeah, I suppose we do."

I watched him-the way his eyes softened as he looked at me, the way his lips curled into a gentle smile. Despite the turmoil in my mind, there was something incredibly comforting about his presence. It was as if, even in the silence, we understood each other. His gaze traveled to my lips, and instantly, a fire awakened within me. I gulped, and my throat suddenly dried. The sight of him licking his lips sent a shiver down my spine, and I found myself unable to look away. The room seemed to grow smaller, and the air thickened with anticipation.

Sebastian leaned in slightly, his eyes never leaving mine. The intensity of his gaze made my heart race, and I could feel my resolve weakening. Every inch of my being was drawn to him; the pull was almost magnetic.

"Tell me you feel it too," he began, his voice low and husky as he slowly took in the small distance between us.

His words sent a jolt through me, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. "Sebastian..." I started, but the words died on my lips as he moved closer, the space between us shrinking.

"Every time I'm near you, it's like nothing else matters," he continued, his voice a mere whisper now. "I tried to keep my distance, but it's impossible. I need you, Blaire. Tell me you need me too."
