Chapter 123

Koko’s POV

I had never really seen my mate this furious, so taken with wrath that he looked like he was boiling from the insides of his body and was ready to explode.

That kind of anger was rare to find in him and I never thought that that anger would be directed at his best friend and his beta.

“Chester, do you know how much you have made everybody worry all this time? some of us had to sleep in the cold on some days just so that we could keep going on the journey and not distract ourselves by lodging immediately…”

Chester’s head fell as he was not able to say a single word in response to everything that he was being battered with, he looked like he needed a hole to crawl into and never come out of.

“Don’t you have anything to say for yourself?” My mate fumed as he slammed his clenched fist on the table in front of him almost with enough force to send all its contents knocking down on the floor.

“Chester, I believe I asked you a question. Am I not going to get an answer?”

If it had been a regular wolf under the gaze of my mate, they would have folded up like paperclips. Chester was able to remain on his feet. It was not too hard to see that he was trembling.

“I’m sorry once again… I have no excuses to give.”

These answers seemed to make my mate even more furious.

“And you expect me to forgive you with that pathetic apology?”

Chester looked away, “no I don’t…”

This could not go on anymore. I parted my lips, hoping to say something that would offer an olive branch in this situation, but before I could even speak, my mate grabbed my hand.

“Koko, we’re leaving!”

Before I could say a word, I found my feet rushing behind him to keep up with his pace, anyone could see the pain that was shooting out of his ears, at this point as he marched towards the door, I looked back at Chester and Julianna with a helpless look on my face.

As we were returning back to the palace and I could sense that his anger was simmering down I decided to talk to him, the car had already been enveloped by silence for far too long anyway.

“Niyo-“

“Koko, no…”

I placed my hand on his lap.

“it’s about Chester…”

“Of course I know it’s about Chester which is exactly why I don’t want to hear, he’s as good as dead to me and he should have stayed that way instead of me finding him like this…”

I could see that what really burnt in his eyes was not to the flame of fury but rather the pain of Chester’s deception.

Chester was ready to scare him again by making him believe that he had lost another person that was so close to his heart just so that he could live a comfortable life that was probably what he was entertaining in his thoughts even though it was far more complicated than that.

“I will allow you to come down a little more Niyol, but I’m afraid that we are still going to have this conversation no matter how unpleasant it might seem now…”

He didn’t say anything in response to this I just looked out the windscreen with a heavy sigh escaping his lips, however the moment we got back to the Palace, he immediately summoned his gamma Ethan telling me that he was too busy, that he needed Ethan to fill him up on everything that had happened in the palace in his absence as if he had been gone for seven years and not just a couple of hours.

Before he could run away from the conversation by using his duties as an excuse I leaned over to him and whispered in his ears.

“We are still having this conversation…”

Then I went over to see Laci, my mate was still building up the relationship with his mother and so I did not want her to get involved in such a complicated issue like this which would just end up ruining the bond that they were trying to patch up.

I will hope that if both I and his sister spoke to him then we will be able to get through to him definitely. When I asked for Laci’s help and explained the situation to her, she seemed to understand immediately.

“He should have just come clean with the whole thing, after all he did all of us a favor by getting rid of those two snakes Scarlett and Henry… I’ll help you get to my brother don’t worry,”

Just then Julianna came to Laci’s chambers and she pleaded so passionately that I felt my resolve harden into steel.

“Don’t worry, we’ll deal with this…”I assured her before she left.

After he was done with his meeting with Ethan, Laci sent a maid over to Niyol requesting that she wanted to have a small chat with him. Of course he was not too surprised when he found that I was already in her room when he arrived and he was expecting that she would dive into the matter immediately, but instead she asked him about other things.

Our initial thought was to get him to lower his guard before mentioning Chester but then he was the one that swept the carpet of our feet with the way the conversation went on later.

“Laci, I’ve noticed that I have not been appreciating your mate despite all his hard work.”

She looked between the both of us, surprised dancing in her eyes.

“Niyol, I don’t understand.. besides, that has ever been the case…”

But he immediately shook his head.

“I’m afraid that it is from my own observation, don’t you think he deserves a promotion?”

I could now finally see where he was driving at and I did not like the destination of the conversation.

“Niyol, are you actually thinking of replacing Chester?” I asked him to bolt up from the couch.

“I will need somebody that I can trust as my Beta,”

I came over to stand in front of him with my hands on my h**s.

“Niyol, we all make mistakes… and yes Chester has made a very big mistake, so you have every right to be angry…” He was looking at me intensely without saying a word.

“So I should just sweep everything under the carpet and pretend it never happened?”

I shook my head.

“I’m saying that you should forgive him, he made a mistake but that’s not enough reason for you to cast him out of your life forever. He will always be your best friend and your Beta and you know nobody can replace him there…”

Laci also stepped in as well.

“Please brother let bygones be bygones….”

“Yes, Niyol please for me…”

After saying that, his look finally became so often and he pulled me into his arms.

“I can’t believe I’m actually doing this… fine I’ll forgive him since so many people are pleading for his case,”

I was overjoyed, everything could finally go back to normal in the palace.
