Twice Rejected
Chapter 36

Koko’s POV

“Can we go and have breakfast now? I’m starving!” He said, holding my stomach.

“Yeah. Me too.” I replied, breaking into a smile. Just then my stomach rumbled loudly.

He burst into laughter as he led me out of my room.

I watched as my mate laughed, holding my hands out of the room. I was drowning in his smile and the sound of his laughter made me forgot all my hunger.

I was gazing at him as if he was going to vanish from my presence. I didn’t care that I was looking like a love-struck teenager right now, because this was the first time in all my years that I finally laughed.

The trauma with Prince Gad made me lost all hope of having a mate. Even the rejection from my second chance mate didn’t hurt as much as Gad’s rejection.

His rejection and his acceptance of my sister as his chosen mate fuel my already shattered heart. As if that wasn’t enough, I had to watch them making out in front of me almost every day!

No one was able to stand up for me. No one soothed my broken heart. They watched with cruelty and satisfaction at all the sufferings I passed through.

Although I was still reluctant around the people in this place, at least, there was someone who would always stood up for me. I felt a warm feeling welling up in my heart.

“You just forgot all about me the moment my brother came back. And I have been watching you for five minutes yet you didn’t even blink when staring at my brother. Is my brother so charming that you didn’t even notice my presence?” Laci’s voice brought me back to reality.

Was I just drooling at my mate in the presence of his sister and every other person? Oh my gosh! I felt so embarrassed!

“Laci! You are so mean!” I whispered, biting my lips in an attempt to hide my embarrassment.

“I am not. And you are gradually turning red too! It seems your heart is beating so fast.” Laci continued.

I wanted to hide my embarrassed face by covering it with my hands but Alpha Niyole, my mate, stopped my movements.

“Of course, I’m the only one she is supposed to see as charming. After all, we are mates. Or is she supposed to stare at you? Besides she looks so cute right now.” Alpha Niyole said, glaring at his sister.

“Oh, brother! There is no justice in this palace! You are supposed to be my brother yet you are glaring at me because I cautioned your mate? Koko, are you also with him on this?” Laci said, exaggeratedly.

“And she is my mate. Stop teasing her and go home to tease your husband instead. That is after breakfast. But let me tell you a secret, you can use it when you get home.” Alpha Niyole said.

Then he drew close to his sister and whispered something into her ears with a smirk on his face.

I noticed Laci turning red too. What did he tell her? I want to know too, but he just smirked at me before touching his stomach.

“Please, Laci. I am starving.” Alpha Niyole said as if he didn’t just make his sister embarrassed.

“You are starving and you…” Laci wanted to say something but Alpha Niyole cut her off.

“I don’t have time for too many words, Laci. Can we eat now? Koko didn’t eat much last night. She was just picking on her food. I don’t know how you managed to feed her at the hospital. Do we need to take her back there?” Alpha Niyole said, escorting us to the dining room.

“Of course not. Maybe she isn’t used to this palace. Don’t worry, Koko. I will always be here for you till you are used to this place, okay?” Laci said, smiling at me.

“Thank you so much, Laci. I don’t know what I would have done without you.” I replied, feeling grateful.

I followed behind with my head down. I know he told me to be confident, but I just couldn’t. It was like the humiliation I had faced all these years had robbed me of every confidence I ever had.

Getting to the dining room, there were various types of dishes on the table. It seemed Laci had instructed them about my favorite dish because it was made exactly the way I loved it.

Back then in my pack, I had to feed on the leftovers of even the maids and I had no time to be picky. It’s not like I was picky here or I told Laci what I loved most, it was just that she assumed the dish I ate mostly was my favorite.

“What’s on your mind, pretty? Is it my brother?” Laci teased me again.

“I… I’m just surprised at the dishes. You told them, right?” I asked.

“Yeah, I did. After all, they should know everything about you as our future Luna. Don’t you think so?” Laci responded.

I didn’t respond, sitting down quietly with my head bowed. I swear I was feeling happy and at the same time, I felt sad. I wonder if the people would accept me as their Luna.

“Koko, can you just look up? There is no one around. It’s just us so please, raise your pretty head so we can eat?” Laci said.

“Sorry, Laci” I apologized, raising my head.

“I don’t know why you are hiding your face. But, you should know you have the prettiest set of eyes ever and your face lit up whenever your eyes are open. Please stop this already, okay? Or what do you think, brother?” Laci said, turning to his brother.

“Her eyes are just the perfect example of the full moon in the night. It stands out all the time.” Alpha Niyole said, staring into my eyes that I just lifted.

“You see! You even turned my rigid brother into a poet with your beauty,” Laci joked.

“Alright. Let’s eat up.” Alpha Niyole said, dishing food onto my plate.

We all sat silently and Laci made sure I ate to the fullest.

Alpha Niyole left us after he finished his meal. It was like he was expecting someone. It was a normal thing for an alpha like him. He must be very busy, yet he made time to be with me.

I was grateful.

“Your brother must be busy all the time,” I said after my mate left.

“Yes. Extremely busy. He had to run the affairs of over a hundred districts that are under him.” She replied.

“Over a hundred? Is… is he an Alpha King?” I asked, my eyes widening in surprise.

“Yes, he is the Alpha King of this state. Our districts stretch as far as the human realm.” She replied.

” Even…the human realm? He must be really powerful and… busy. And… he even had to console me this morning even when he had to attend to urgent matters that might be on the ground?” I replied, feeling regretful for making him pass through so much stress.

“He has to. You are his mate. If you are not settled, he won’t be settled too. That’s why he goes to every length to make you happy.” Laci said.

“Still, I am grateful. Not all mates are like that. Not the ones that the moon goddess had given me so far.” I murmured.

“Ones? Oh! You told me about that jerk mate of yours. Koko, mates are very protective and loving. They are like our better half that compliments our weaknesses. So don’t compare that jerk to a mate.” Laci said, her tone filled with disgust.

I looked at her. “Your mate must be loving, right?”

“He is extremely loving and caring, just like my brother. That’s why I am glad I accepted him. He never made me miss my brother. Although, I do miss my brother, my mate complemented my life.”

“Koko, give my brother a chance to show you how much he loves and adores you. He is a very good man. I know you have been through a lot, but can you just open your heart a tiny bit? For my brother’s sake?” Laci said, holding my hands.

She was truly something else. “You are truly a brother protecting a sister. You will always say good things about your brother, right?”

“Of course, I will always say good things about my brother, but he is a good man. Just give him a trial.” she insisted.

I just smiled without giving her an answer. I don’t know what to say to her. Even though my heart was already drawn to Niyol, I was still afraid of rejection.

What if he later succumbed to his mother and others who are against their union?

After the meal, Laci suggested we take a walk around the palace so we can digest our food. I wanted to refuse, but she gave me no room for that, grabbing my hands. She led me out of the dining room.
