Chapter 37

Alpha Niyole POV

After breakfast, I left my mate with my sister and went back to my chamber. I had so many files to take care of this morning, but I was waiting for Chester. I knew that once I got to that office, I would forget about the issue.

So I need to trash it out before I leave for the office. I know that Chester would be here anytime soon.

There was a knock on the door before it was opened. It must be Chester. I looked up to see it was him.

“Have you finished your investigation?” I asked, sounding worried.

“Yes, Alpha. The people that visited her were your aunts. They are the Queen Mother’s closest friends. They were also the ones who told your mother all those things about her. I already sent a warning to them on your behalf, but I’m afraid the news has gone far.” Chester reported.

I closed my eyes, holding my fist tightly to control my anger. I wonder why these people would always indulge themselves in my marital issues.

I won’t let what happened to Erika happen again.

“I will go and speak with them, personally. They need to know that I am serious this time around.” I replied.

“I understand, but that would be after we are back from the official visit to Province B. They have been sending their petitions for over a month and I think this time, the attacks are getting serious.”

“Didn’t we send in special forces for assistance?” I asked, feeling irritated. I do not like the direction the issue was going. I didn’t want to spend a single day away from my mate at this critical period.

“We did, but the forces are outnumbering our people. It seems they are out for war. They are not just rogues, Alpha. They are werewolves of a special breed.” he replied.

“Special breeds? That would mean it’s Alpha Claudius that is behind these attacks. He is the only bastard who turns rogues to monsters.” I said, feeling my anger surging out.

Chester and I looked at each other remembering the hurtful past. We had lost our bosom friend to those special breed werewolves. It had been a terrible blow for us and that had made me invest in our lab.

“Has the weapon been taken care of in the lab section? Is the work done?” I asked.

“That’s another reason for the delay. It will be ready this evening.” Chester answered.

“Tonight? That means our movement would be in the morning.” I said.

“We can still leave tonight if…” Chester was saying, but a glare from me made him change his mind. “…Or not. Let’s just stick to the morning movement. I will make plans for the journey.”

I grinned at him.” Good. You should know that I am no longer single.”

“Oh please, Niyole. You are giving me goosebumps with this creepy smile of yours. I have heard you. I will make plans for tomorrow so can you please go back to your alpha state? I am single, alright!” Chester said, rolling his eyes at me.

“I didn’t ask you to be single. Go and get a mate. Or are you waiting for her?” I asked, raising my brows.

“Why would I wait for her? She doesn’t like me. Everyone knows Scarlett is madly in love with you. If not for her father moving over to the human realm, I bet she would have fought Erika tooth and nails.” Chester said.

“She knew I had eyes for no one but Erika then. It would have been futile.” I said.

“Yeah. It would have been, but then things would have been rough too. You know how Scarlett is, right?” He asked.

“She’s not worth it, Chester,” I said, waving him off. “Let’s go to the office. I need to sort those files out so I can have dinner with Koko.”

“Such a sweet name. I didn’t look at her properly the last time. Can you set a date for us? I think I need to meet my best friend’s second chance mate.” Chester said, trying to hold back the smile that was already on his face.

I knew he was teasing me. “In your dreams! I don’t want any single man around her, unless you want to be castrated first and probably, I might just rip your eyes out too. So what do you say?”

He shook his head vigorously and I was afraid it might fall off.” No need. I think I will just wait till the day of the coronation. I still love my manhood and eyes, thank you.”

We burst into laughter as we left the chamber. The car was already waiting at the palace entrance.

Chester turned to me, scratching his head. “Sorry but I think we need to go somewhere else first. This morning we need to visit K&C subsidiaries for the deal. They are through with the corrections and are ready to ship. They just need your approval.”

“Ha! What happens to my dinner? Are you freaking kidding me?”

“It’s going to be brief. They just need your signature for approval.”

“You could have brought it here.”

“You also need to test it in presence of the executives.”

“F**k you, Chester. You are doing this on purpose!”

As we left the palace, I caught sight of Laci and Koko in the garden. They must have gone for a walk. I smiled and felt happy that I had a caring and understanding little sister.

She acted more like a mother to me than our mother. When I lost Erika, she stood by me through it all. She gave me a reason to look forward to each new day.

Now I have another mate and here she was trying to make her feel loved when I was not around. I thought it’s time for me to delegate my duties. I needed to stay by my mate more often than ever.

Seated at the back of my official car, I turned to Chester.” Once we are back from province B, I need you to give me a detailed report of all my alphas and high executives.”

“A detailed report? It’s not yet time for promotion, right?”

“I know. I just want to delegate some of my powers so I can be able to take care of my mate. You know what happened to Erika. I don’t want the same thing happening all over again. I can’t afford to miss this chance given by the moon goddess.” I replied, looking through the car window.

The car stopped at an entrance of a gigantic building. Several top executives were all waiting with their heads bowed. I didn’t remember calling a meeting, so why were they all here?

“What is the meaning of this display?” I asked, displeased.

“I think it’s just to welcome you…”

“Get them all back to their offices. You know how much I hate these displays.” I said, getting pissed.

“Just put up with it this time. It’s going to be embarrassing if they are sent back like that.”

“Do I look like I give a f**k! Get them out now!” I said, holding back my irritation.

“Please, Niyole. Just this once. We don’t have time to waste. All you have to do is walk past them and nod.” Chester pleaded.

The car slowly came to a halt and without waiting for the driver or Chester, I pushed the door open.

“Welcome, your majesty!” They all chorused. I wish I could smack their asses, but I just forced out a smile while walking in with full strides.

I knew they might be taken aback, but that was the most I could do for them, for Chester’s sake.

It took us an hour to finish the signing and every other thing required. After all the official matters had been settled, I stood up. My sharp glare was piercing at the managing director of the company.

I could feel him shivering, but that was the least of my worries. “If I ever see that kind of display again, consider yourself disposed. Permanently.”

I made sure that the threat in my voice and eyes as it swept through the executives would send enough shivers down their spines.

After speaking to them, I left alongside my beta who just had a smirk on his face.

I needed to get to the office early so I could finish my duties on time.

The car stopped at the entrance of my office. It was just a cottage-like building. It consisted of different file rooms and the management was few. I didn’t like crowded places.

As I came out of the car, I saw a silhouette standing just at my office door.

“Mother, what are you doing here?” I asked, a little surprised. I wasn’t expecting her.

“I came to see you,” she simply said.

“Just go back. I will come to see you soon.” I said. I knew what she wanted to discuss.

“You are not allowed to marry her, Niyole!” She said, ignoring my words.

I bit hard on my l*p to hold back my anger. Was she really my mother?
