Twice Rejected -
Chapter 67
Henry’s POV
After battling with my thoughts for a while, I concluded that there was nothing to lose. After all, Scarlett’s father was an influential man and I could always get what I want. There was nothing to think twice about. My father was just being paranoid.
Besides, there was no going back now. I had come too far to quit. I went to where I and Scarlett usually meet since that was the location she gave me, I got there before her.
As I waited for her arrival, I had different thoughts. Some were thoughts of relief as to what might have happened if I hadn’t played smart today.
Something needed to be done about Julianna Roberts because I was sure this was not the last time such a thing would happen between the two of us.
Scarlet finally arrived and started hitting me with questions that annoyed me a bit. Here I was thinking about how to clear my head and there she was pressuring me with questions and giving me a headache.
“If you keep on asking like this, how do you expect me to answer you?” I cut her off when I couldn’t take her questions anymore.
We talked about Julianna Roberts and I vowed to deal with her. That lady was now posing as an obstacle between us and what we wanted to achieve and every obstacle must be cleared out without looking back.
All we needed to do was track her down and take her out of the picture before she succeeded in making Niyol and Laci believe her instead of us. We would clear her out in such a way that accusing fingers would not be pointed at us and we would not be suspected.
“Also, Koko has known too much. We need to take her out of the picture as well,” Scarlett said and I gasped.
“What?!” I didn’t know when I yelled and she quickly covered my mouth.
“What is wrong with you? Why did you yell like that?” She whispered.
I removed her palm from my mouth. “I was shocked, that’s why.” I answered.
“There is nothing to be shocked about here, Henry. We need to get rid of Koko at all costs,” Scarlett said.
“It isn’t like I am not in support, but isn’t that going too far?” I asked Scarlett.
“Too far? Do you want your a*s kicked out of the palace and your kingdom destroyed? What about me? Do you want me to lose everything I already have?” She asked.
“I want none of that, but_”
“But what?” She cut me off. “Look, Koko has become a thorn in our flesh. It is either we get rid of her or face Niyol’s wrath, and you know how dangerous Niyol can be especially when he is furious,” Scarlett said.
I didn’t think that she was wrong though, but I was trying to take precautionary measures here. If we wanted to kill Julianna Roberts and Koko, we should be smart because Niyol wasn’t a fool.
If two of them should die immediately, following each other like that, Niyol would put two and two together and come after us.
“Are you still finding it hard to agree with me?” She asked when she noticed how quiet I was. “In case you are still not clear, let me do you that favour. We could have released Koko but she already knows everything and releasing her would be like a suicide mission. She recognizes us and if by any chance she lives, then she would expose us!” Scarlett snapped.
“I understand what you are talking about already, Scarlett. All I am trying to say is that we deal with this smartly. We have to get rid of them gradually to avoid suspicion. You know how smart Niyol can be at times.” I said and she thought for a while.
“You are correct. So, it would be nice to get rid of the meddling investigator first,”
“Julianna Roberts?”
“Who else if not her, Henry!” Scarlett snapped.
This time, she took me aback, and I didn’t know how to process what she just said. It was true, Julianna Roberts was indeed an interfering investigator. I could judge from my experience with her that she doesn’t take no for an answer.
She never stopped pushing our buttons even when she got what she wanted. I was sure she would stop at nothing to uncover our secrets. And if she found out, she would spread the story to anyone she deemed fit, including the Alpha and his sister. This thought alone made me more determined to end her.
“So, how do we pull this off? We have to get rid of Julianna before she moves further in the case.” I said and Scarlett nodded.
“Yes, we shall follow her to see what she does next. We should go tonight! Let’s get it over with. We don’t have long so we need to finish things up quickly and leave before they discover us!”
She ordered and I couldn’t help but chuckle at how easy she thought things were going to be.
“Tonight?” I asked.
“Yes. We don’t have much time, okay?” she said impatiently.
“Scarlett, I know that you are eager and impatient to pull this off, but we can’t just go without a plan. You were the one talking about tracking her down first, why do you want to rush things now?” I asked her and she shot me deadly glares.
“I am trying my best to avoid us getting caught here.” she answered.
“But it would only worsen the whole issue if we don’t have a plan to work on. We can’t just go and kill her. We need to monitor her activities, know when she goes out or come in, things like that.” I said.
Scarlett paced forth and back and rubbed her temple like she was thinking about something. When she returned to stand opposite me, she took her handkerchief out of her purse and started wiping the sweat from her forehead and temples. She must really be stressed out about the whole stuff. I could imagine what she was plotting in her head right now.
“Alright, alright. I’ll listen to what you have said, Henry.” she conceded, and when she said my name, her eyes seemed to soften a little.
“Good, I was right about you.” I smirked.
“Don’t flatter yourself. Now, we can discuss details.” she commanded and I chuckled.
So bossy!
“I will hire some men to follow her around secretly and get to know her daily routine. After that, they would find the perfect opportunity to get rid of her, then we would have half of our problems solved.” She said with a smile.
“Exactly.”
“I can’t wait to see the way she would plead for my mercy. Let’s see how she will act all tough and mighty when I’m through with her.” Scarlett said and I could see determination in her eyes. She seemed to be affected by this more than I was.
“We have to go now. You leave first, it wouldn’t be good if people saw us together,” I said.
“Yes, you’re right. But, it would be better for you to leave first,” She argued.
“Ladies first, Scarlett.” I said and she rolled her eyes.
“Alright. See you tonight,” She winked at me and left.
I didn’t know, but I found myself smiling, but that smile faded when someone shouted behind me.
“Aren’t you Henry? Soon to be Alpha of_”
“Just shut up,” I cut him off and made to leave.
“Are you and Scarlett in some kind of affair? I saw you two together just now.” The man said and I turned swiftly to look at him.
“What did you just say?” I asked.
“I saw you and Scarlett, the daughter of that rich man living not far from here.” He answered.
I was shocked at how he saw us. Some people really didn’t know how to mind their businesses. I sighed as I searched through my head to make up an excuse and divert his mindset from what he had seen. No one is supposed to see me and Scarlett together, else it would foil our plans.
“Nonsense, what makes you say that?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Do you think such an influential person like herself would want to stand and talk to me?” I asked.
“I could swear that she was the one I saw you with just now.” The man said, looking a bit confused and I decided to use that to my advantage. I was going to confuse the hell out of him.
“Really? Are you really so important that she has an influential friend like you?” I sneered at him.
“That’s not possible. She wouldn’t associate with people like me.” He said defensively.
“Exactly, the same way she wouldn’t associate with someone like me.” I said.
“But, you are going to become an Alpha after your father.” The man said.
“I am not an Alpha yet, so I am not in the same class as her. She was only passing by, okay? We aren’t close enough to talk to each other.” I said.
“Okay. I guess you are correct. Maybe, my mind was occupied with something else that I saw the wrong thing.” He chuckled and I nodded. Without wasting any more time, he left and I sighed in relief.
That was a close shave. How on Earth did he see us in the first place? Thank goodness I was able to jumble his thoughts, else he would have spread rumours and ruined our plans. I ruffled my hair as I thought about the recent incidents so far. I was hoping everything works out for the good of me and Scarlett. I quickly left the place to avoid another drama from another passerby.
