Twice Rejected -
Chapter 70
Julianna’s POV
As I left Chester behind, I couldn’t help but smile to myself. Why was he being jealous all of a sudden? If he wasn’t then why did he suddenly develop interest in my personal life?
I sighed as I waved the thoughts away. I was about to go down the stairs when I saw him hurry past me. Is he angry or did his feelings get hurt?
“Hey, where are you going?” I asked him, but he didn’t answer.
Whatever!
I rolled my eyes and got down from the stairs. I was about to walk out, when I saw Laci coming in. She was in such a hurry that she didn’t notice me.
“Laci?” I called and she turned to look at me. Her once serious face lit up with a grin.
“Julianna, how are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m fine. You?” I asked as I scrutinised her face.
She looked stressed out and tired. I was sure that the Alpha sent her home to rest, but she found her way back here.
“I’m good.” She answered.
“You don’t look good. Come on, stop worrying too much. Everything will be back to normal before you know it.” I assured her and she nodded. “You were hurrying to see Alpha Niyol right?” I asked.
“Yes. I asked him to eat before I got back and shouldn’t allow Chester to leave his side. I want to go and see if he did what I asked him to.” She said,
“Okay,” I said and followed her.
“How is the case going? Have you found anything that can lead us to where we might find her?” She asked me and I cleared my throat.
“Nothing yet but I am going to find one soon. Our Koko will be found in no time,” I said and smiled at her.
She tried to smile back, but it turned into a grin instead. Well… I could qq go with that. We were barely at the Alpha’s door when we heard a loud growl. No doubt, it was the Alpha.
“Not again!” Laci said and rushed to his room. I followed suit. When we entered, we met Alpha Niyol panting heavily while Chester held him tight and caressed his shoulders.
“Are you okay? You’re hurting again. Is it unbearable?” Laci asked and ran to him.
He couldn’t talk, but continued panting. What could possibly be wrong with him? He was going through a lot of pains.
“Here, take some lemon juice.” Chester said and fed him from the cup.
“Hold on, Niyol. You’re going to be fine. It will all be over soon,” Laci said and pulled him in for a hug.
A few minutes later, his heavy panting subsided and he seemed to be calm now.
“Are you okay now?” Laci asked.
“Yes, I’m fine.” He said.
Tears rolled down Laci’s cheeks and it broke his heart to see her cry.
“Hey hey, please don’t do this. You know how much I hate to see you cry. I’m fine, okay? You don’t need to cry over anything, okay?” He patted her head.
“It is just not fair! Why is life like this? You don’t deserve all of these. You deserve to be happy and live a fruitful life, not a life of sorrow, hurt and pain. You don’t deserve any of these pains, Niyol. My heart bleeds anytime I see you hurting like this,” She said and I could feel her pain.
I tried to picture myself in her shoes and imagine if something like this should happen to Chester. It would really hurt me a lot.
“It’s okay, Laci. You were the same person who said it would all be over right? Why don’t we stick on that?” He suggested.
Laci sniffed. “But I’m pissed off! It’s unfair!” She said,
“I know. Life itself is unfair! Things don’t always go the way we want them to. One time we think the world is going the direction we want, the next, it is doing the exact opposite.” Alpha Niyol said and I smiled at his words.
He forced a smile and continued patting her. When she calmed down, she stood up and looked around the room.
“Did you eat like I asked you to?” She asked.
The Alpha pressed his lips into a thin line and looked at Chester who gave him the ‘I TOLD YOU SO’ kind of look.
“You didn’t eat?” She snapped.
“I wanted to, but I slept off.” He answered.
Laci diverted her gaze to Chester to know if the Alpha was saying the truth and not giving excuses.
“Yes, he slept off.” Chester answered.
“Stay here. I’m going to get your food and you must eat now,” she said and left the room.
“Miss Julianna?” Alpha Niyol called and I looked up to behold his face. His face was pale but it didn’t hide his good looks.
“Yes, Alpha Niyol.” I answered.
“Have you had dinner?” He asked me.
“Not yet, but I’m planning to do that now. I had a lot of things to work on, so I got busy for a while.” I said and heard Chester scoff stylishly. Our eyes met, but I looked back at Alpha Niyol.
“Okay. Make sure you eat a lot. How is the case coming up? Do you need back up?” He asked and I chuckled.
“No, your grace. I am fine without back ups. I prefer doing things my way and wouldn’t want anyone or anything to get in the way. Don’t fret, I can handle this.” I said.
“Okay but do not hesitate to call me if you need any help.” He said.
“Sure.” I smiled.
I turned to look at Chester and saw him staring at the Alpha worriedly. The worry in his eyes was genuine and could draw someone in. I knew he loved the Alpha a lot, that was why I didn’t hesitate to inform him about the happenings in the palace and also followed him here to clear things up. Obviously, those scoundrels think they are smart enough, but I’ll fish them out one after the other.
I was very determined to get to the bottom of it all so as to restore peace and happiness to this palace.
Since my arrival, everything had been gloomy and uncomfortable. I usually love an environment bustling with so many activities and happiness, not this. That was why I was more determined to pull this off.
The next morning, I woke up very early to do some special work out so as to stay agile for the day. I would have loved to run a bit but couldn’t risk it for now.
I had work to do. After the morning exercise, I took my bath and wore a black skirt with white top and black suit jacket. After all, I am an investigator and should look professional at all times.
I checked myself out in the mirror and stepped out. One of the palace maids came to meet me.
“Breakfast is served, my lady.” She bowed.
“Okay, thank you so much. But, I would love to eat it later. I am not in the mood to eat anything right now.” I replied. She bowed and left.
“Since when did start you skipping breakfast?” Chester asked as he walked over to where I stood.
“Since now.” I answered.
“It isn’t healthy to skip breakfast, Julianna.” He scolded me.
“I am not skipping breakfast. I just don’t want to eat now. I have a feeling that I will get busy today.” I said.
“Which is the more reason why you should eat to have strength.” He said.
“Fine, I will eat.” I smiled.
“Uh-huh, I know you just want me to beg you.” He said and I chuckled. It was kind of true though. He knows me too well.
“I’ve been meaning to ask, Chester. Do you know anything about Henry?” I asked.
“Not really. I and Henry haven’t spent a lot of time together. You know I wasn’t around as at the time he frequented the palace to keep Koko company,” He answered and I sighed. “You find him suspicious.” He said, but I think it was more like a question.
“Yes. The problem is that I have no evidence yet. Once I get some solid evidence, I’ll get him and the second person,” I said.
“Who is the second person?” He asked.
I suddenly remembered the crush he had on Scarlett. I didn’t want to mention her name, so he wouldn’t get the wrong idea.
“You’ll find out soon.” I said to him,
“Alright. I believe in you. Try and eat before you do anything okay? I’m going to stay with the Alpha.” Chester said.
“Sure,” I smiled and he left.
After his departure, my phone rang. I checked the caller ID and smiled. This better be good news. I went to a side in the palace and answered the call.
“What did you get?” I asked the person at the receiving end.
“I saw them together but they haven’t gone to where she is hidden yet.”
“When they do, inform me right away, okay?”
“Okay.”
“You have to do this right. Don’t screw things up for me. Got it?”
“Yes!”
“Bye for now.” I said and hung up the call. Things were about to get interesting. I smirked and headed to the dining table. I was about to sit down when my phone rang again.
“Why is he calling again?” I asked no one in particular and answered the phone. A smile found its way to my lips when I heard what the person on the phone said. I hung up the call and smiled.
“Let’s see how you’re going to escape my questions this time.”
