Twice Rejected
Chapter 96

Koko’s POV

“No, I can’t bring myself to take these much from you…”

“But I insist you have to. I can’t possibly leave here without doing something for you and this is nothing really compared to what you have done for me.”

“Your majesty, I did everything out of the kindness of my own heart, not hoping for any reward… You really don’t have to do this…”

My heart bubbled up with joy as I looked at my mate, he had insisted that he would wait till Eve was fully recovered and discharged from the hospital before he would go back home.

He wanted to personally thank her for all that she did for me, he even shed tears when I narrated everything that the poor woman had gone through for me.

It still surprised me that some people could be so kind to mere strangers, when my own mother had never been the tiniest bit nice to me.

She had practically risked her life when she told me to run and she went ahead to fight the rogue, not considering how she was putting herself in danger. I personally could not have left without thanking her.

My mate told everyone else to go back to the pack, but Laci insisted on staying to also thank Eve.

The poor woman looked as if she was going to faint when she saw the new house that my mate got for her and then when she had not even recovered from that yet, he began to shower her with more gifts and finally she could take no more.

“I am not even the only one you need to thank,” she argued, ” Margaret was the herbalist who actually treated your mate…”

“Don’t worry about that,” Laci assured her.

“We have also made sure that your friend is duly rewarded as well for her services and kindness.”

She wanted to prepare dinner for us, so that we all could eat together, I really wanted us to stay and dine with her, but in as much as I wanted to taste her food again, I knew that I could not keep my mate any longer from the palace, so I politely refused on behalf of everyone.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be making sure to pay you constant visits even though they are not that often…”

I quickly added when I noticed that she was looking a bit sad.

“Please do, and whenever you are coming give me a heads up so that I can prepare something very tasty for you…”

I walked up to her and embraced her, and I did, she slipped an envelope into my bag that I hung over my shoulder and whispered in my ears.

“My dear only read this when you are alone…”

I didn’t know why she had to do this so secretly. I could trust everybody in the room, but I guess she couldn’t, since she had only met them, though the same could almost be said for me and her.

I decided that I would only understand what it all meant when I finally opened the letter.

So after saying our final goodbyes to Eve, she escorted us outside to the cars that were waiting. As soon as we got outside, Laci, my sister-in-law pulled me into her own car.

“Laci!” I gasped out loud.

“I know that my greedy brother is going to steal you for the rest of the journey so that is why I took you first…”

“Laci you can’t be serious… “Niyol called from behind and I could feel the frustration in his voice.

“You are a mother, do you still have to act like a kindergarten too?”

“You were the only one who got to see her last night, don’t tell me that you think you were the only one that have been missing her?”

I looked at my mate with a pleading expression.

“Niyol, we will be home before you know it and then we can be together again… But for now, I don’t mind catching up with Laci…”

He looked like he was going to argue more, but probably decided against it and just huffed.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be making sure to pay you constant visits even though they are not that often…”

”Fine…”

So I joined Laci in her own car, and I could feel his annoyance all the way from there.

“I’m guessing that you’re not too happy that I stole you from your mate…”

I smiled.

“Don’t worry I wanted some girl time too,”

She smiled and we started chatting. She was updating me on everything that had happened in the palace all the while I wasn’t there, even though I had already discussed all of that with Niyol before, last night. But I allowed her to repeat everything, nodding and appreciating her energy.

“So how do you feel about seeing Scarlet and Henry again?”

Now, this was something that my mate had not brought up last night. I knew that it was probably so that he will not disturb me, if I knew him very well, which I did, I was sure that he was planning to execute both of them for what they had done and honestly they deserved it, following the laws of the Kingdom.

And I knew that Scarlett and Henry probably saw me as a weakling, so they were not expecting any harsh punishments if I were to return.

I was not surprised when I realized that the mastermind behind all that happened was actually Scarlet, what pained me was that I saw that bastard, Henry, as a friend.

If I hadn’t been so gullible, then none of these would have happened, well they said once bitten twice shy. I would learn to be more careful around people now.

And that was why I could not tell Laci about the letter the old woman had given me, of course, I trusted her but whenever I remembered how serious Eve had been about me being alone when I read, it I would pin the conversation back on the wall before it spilled past my lips.

This was something I had to keep to myself.
