Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 130

Connor grabs the photo, shoving it into his backpack as he moves through the house. Being in an empty house, knowing that Leilani has been there before, is no better than being back home. At least back in the stormy pack, there are memories of them together. Here there is only loneliness and disconnection.

Connor walks into the bathroom and pumps his fist in the air when he turns on the tap and there is actually running water, better still, hot running water. After a shower. He gets dressed into long sleeved black shirt and some black casual pants. Not even worrying about the shoes as he takes off after the two boys. He will do most of his hiking in human form because he is less likely to be detected by Levi as Levi shifts. He will do the same in order to catch up but armed with masking spray. He should be safe for now. A man walking into the wild who is as powerful as Connor, the only thing he has to worry about is the insufferable loneliness.

**2 years after separation**

Connor looks at the woman in front of him. She has long toned legs wrapped in deep red tights. She has a midriff black top that shows off her toned stomach. The slight outline of her six-pack abs, her arms are toned to perfection, thin, but an undeniable sense of power about them. Her golden blonde hair is shorter. Braided in two braids, kept close to her head folded over at the bottom. She doesn't want a single inch that she could that could compromise her.

She cannot guarantee the fairness of the fight, so she eliminates the possibility of easy targets like long loose hair that can be grabbed.

The progression for Evie to get from the near skeletal frame to the powerhouse he sees in front of him is nothing short of a miracle.

There was nothing fast about the process. It took a whole year to get her in a good enough condition to be able to train with the stormy pack warriors and even then she was falling behind. Connor has taken Evie's training completely on himself.

She has become more than a friend to him. She has become a sister. He couldn't be any more proud of what she has accomplished to get to this point. She had a goal and she wasn't just slightly handicapped. Somehow, she has still been able to reach her goal. She was so far behind, not just four years behind. Four years of nothing but neglect and body-ruining malnutrition.

Her wolfs first four years of life were put in a sedated slumber.

Trying to catch the wolf up from a mere pup in a ruined shell to the mighty she wolf that she was always meant to be.

She is now beyond anything she ever strived to be before, before she had no intention of taking a pack. She was happy to be the woman beside the Alpha. Now her plans have changed.

Connor has trained the woman to be his equal. Training someone to the point where they are able to match the trainer is a near impossible task. He has improved in the process just as she has. In the space of two years, she has gone from a scared little girl to a weapon.

Healing her body has helped heal her mind. The stronger she gets physically, the more resilient she becomes mentally. Instead of jumping at shadows she will drag those shadows out and face them head on.

"I would ask you if you are ready but I won't because I know that you are. Even if you don't believe in yourself, I believe in you and you have to carry that confidence with you. What you have achieved is nothing short of amazing. You should be proud of yourself because I sure as hell am proud of you"

"I never could have got here without you"

"It wasn't me. I guided you on the path but you walked it. I was your support but you are the one that pushed. This is your achievement, not mine"

Evie wipes her sweaty palms on her tights as she walks forward toward the car. Her steps are steady, it is the slight tremor in her hand that betrays her, but this time it isn't from fear, it is from anticipation.

She would have preferred to stay in the stormy pack and keep training until every little tiny niggling doubt was out of her head, but now is the time for action. She could get stuck in the cycle of preparing and training forever. One day she would eventually have to take the plunge. Her time is now nearly up, so the situation is slightly forced. It also gives her that date, that goal that she needed.

In two days the Azure pack will be no more, trying to get it separated from the golden dawn pack will be problematic. She wants to take it now. She wants her family's legacy to remain as just that.

Connor waves goodbye to Harvey and his mate as Evie is too focused to do simple tasks, even waving to her two friends is beyond her capability.

The drive to the Azure pack is a completely different feel than it was two years ago. Firstly, Evie is not posing as someone else, Connor couldn't handle her posing as Leilani again. The pain of the hurt has not lessened, it has only intensified over the years. Connor pulls up at the border of the Azure pack. This time it is not a scheduled meeting. The man in just a pair of shorts looks in the window as it lowers down, revealing Connor's handsome face.

"We are here to challenge the alpha, to battle for the rights of the Azure pack"

The border patrols mouth falls open but he starts linking. It is within the rights for anyone to offer up a challenge at anytime. An alpha always has to be ready, there is never a bad time. It is a downside to being alpha.

Evie and Connor just sit in the car patiently waiting. Evie is not so patient, adrenaline is already flowing, her aura is growing, she is powerful, if Connor was a lesser wolf he would be cringing in his seat by now, being stuck in the confined space with such a force. Of course, Connor doesn't even blink, just staring blankly ahead as more warriors are dispatched. Just because anyone is allowed to challenge doesn't mean it is a common occurrence.

Their request has sent the whole Azure pack into a frenzy.

The vehicle is surrounded by warriors as they are led forward at a snail's pace. The two in the car are not scared of a show of force such as this. Connor curses himself for not driving the automatic transmission car as the manual is so hard to keep at a constant slow pace. He knows that they will be using the time to organize the pack, but he would prefer to just wait in a stationary position.

The journey that should usually take five minutes in a car is stretched out to one hour by the time they finally pull up at the pack house.

Evie's whole body is jittery from anticipation. Connor looks at her before he opens his door. Connor looks at her before he opens his door.

"You have this Evie, you are going to smash it, smash them, I believe in you"

Evie nods her head as she swings open the passenger door with too much strength, nearly taking the unsuspecting object off its hinges. Connor just quietly laughs as they are led toward the training grounds in the same guarded formation as the vehicle was. Standing in the training ring is Madison dressed in a lime green sports bra and black leggings, Damon is standing right by her side in a lime green tank top and black sports shorts, the outfit doing little to hide his powerful physique. Madison looks so slight next to the large alpha.

Madison looks at the man walking up to her, her view of him clearing slightly as the warriors move aside, allowing the outsiders free movement.

Connor is dressed in a pair of khaki chino pants, a pair of black slip on shoes and a black button-up shirt that wraps tightly over his powerful body. He doesn't look like he is here to fight. Madison steps forward, her eyes flicker as she looks at the powerful man. Maybe this won't be as easy as she thought.

"Alpha Storm. I never would have expected that it would be you who would offer such a challenge, all that talk of alliances back then. When nothing came of it, I assumed that you had forgotten about us here, who knew you were plotting such things"

The whole of the Azure pack is congregating around the training ground, there are some of the golden dawn wolves starting to filter through, there is free movement between the two packs already. The two packs that were due to become one in a matter of days, no one expected this to happen at this late stage.

Someone trying to take Azure before it is dissolved into nothing.

Connor shrugs his shoulders at Madison's words. Madison continues when she doesn't get a response.

"Was the visit back then just fishing for information and nothing more?"

Connor shakes his head with a smile on his face. Connor is aging like fine wine, he is more perfect than before. Evie is hidden behind his large figure with her head slightly downcast, hatred overflowing at her twins pompous words.

"No, no, no, that is where you are wrong, Alpha Madison, I am not mistaken, am I? You are still the alpha?"

Madison grits her teeth and clenches her fists.

"No you are not wrong"

"Ohh good, so are you going to accept the battle?"

"Do I have a choice?"

Connor just raises his eyebrows with a smile on his face. Madison backs up to Damon's side. With their matching active wear, they look like a power couple.

"Alpha Damon, my mate, will be taking my place in the battle against you"

Connor's smile widens. Of course, they had anticipated such a move, it is within the rules.

"Of course that will be fine, but you have one fact wrong"

"And what would that be?"

Connor pauses, puffing his expansive chest out, his steel-gray eyes glittering with mirth.

"It is not me he will be fighting"

Madison's eyes narrow as she splutters, she hadn't even noticed the small figure behind the large man.

"Who will be fighting?"
