Unconscious Husband: Meet Her Love In Silence -
Chapter 1741
He shifted his attention back to the road, silently waiting for Marlowe’s cue to proceed.
Marlowe continued to gaze at the corner where Mitchel had disappeared, a peculiar heaviness settling in her chest that made her eyes turn red.
Clutching Mitchel’s coat closer, she pondered her melancholy.
Perhaps it was because of the festive atmosphere enveloping the streets, heightening her loneliness as she thought about returning to her cold, dreary basement.
Regret washed over her.
She wished she had spent more time talking to Mitchel just now, lingering a while longer in his presence.
It wasn’t until Mitchel had disappeared from view that Marlowe slumped back against the car and said to the driver to start the car.
The engine hummed to life, and the car pulled away, heading toward her run-down rental.
After pondering for a moment, Marlowe decided to retrieve her phone and send Mitchel a heartfelt thank-you message.
However, upon opening her bag, she noticed a stack of money inside.
Puzzled, she furrowed her brow, unsure of why such a large sum of money was in her bag.
Could it be…
A thought struck Marlowe, and she cautiously lifted the cash.
Beneath it, she found a Santa Claus card and a small bag of candies.
The car’s dim backseat lighting made it hard for her to read the card’s contents clearly.
Setting the money aside, she picked up the card and squinted at the greeting inscribed at the top.
“Miss Bates, Merry Christmas.
”
The handwriting was unmistakably Mitchel’s; she had recognized it immediately.
This meant that the mysterious cash in her bag was actually Mitchel’s doing.
Aware of her pride and financial struggles, Mitchel knew she would never accept the money openly.
So, he had opted to discreetly slip it into her bag.
Clutching the card tightly, Marlowe lowered her head and pressed her Lips together, overwhelmed with emotion.
Tears soon welled up in her eyes, trickling silently down her cheeks.
The wind that fluttered through the window no longer chilled her;
Mitchel’s coat provided warmth.
The bitterness in her mouth had vanished, sweetened by the candy Mitchel had given her.
Marlowe felt her heart fluttering because of the sweetness.
As Christmas rolled around, Melon unwrapped the life-sized Santa Claus statue Mitchel had snagged for him.
Elated, he grabbed Holden’s phone and spent a long time taking photos of his new toy.
Mitchel also had a tailor-made doll waiting for Adele, which Adele adored instantly.
Cradling the doll, she caressed and kissed it, even bestowing a name on it.
The other adults hadn’t held back, either, lavishing the children with exquisite presents.
As their father, Holden had nearly filled the entire ward with the gifts he had prepared.
All day, laughter echoed through the halls, a sound of joy that hadn’t filled the space in ages.
Ariana was on the mend, faring better than she had in weeks.
She had been eating more and could now leave her bed.
Dressed in cozy clothes, she sat on the carpet, helping the two children unwrap their presents.
Melon focused intently on the gifts, ignoring the slices of fruit Holden offered him.
Adele, on the other hand, had her focus on Ariana.
Ever since Adele discovered Ariana was her birth mother, she had become even more attached to Ariana.
She always insisted on being in Ariana’s arms and frequently called her “Mommy”.
“Adele, soon, you’ll turn into your mommy’s necklace if you hang on to her any longer,” Holden joked.
