Unconscious Husband: Meet Her Love In Silence -
Chapter 1742
Adele blushed but made no move to leave Ariana’s side.
She looked up, affectionately calling Ariana “Mommy” once more.
Ariana, far from bothered, responded with a tender smile.
The family was having a good time.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted them.
Holden’s assistant entered, pushing in a large box adorned with a bright red bow.
It carried an air of mystery.
As the subordinate placed the box in front of Ariana, she glanced at Holden, puzzled, suspecting he had purchased more presents for the children.
The room was already overflowing with gifts, and she worried there wouldn’t be space left for a bed if there were more.
However, Holden hadn’t ordered any additional Christmas presents.
He didn’t know who had sent this big box.
“What’s this?” Holden inquired coldly.
“The package was signed for by the hospital receptionist.
We don’t know who sent it,” the subordinate explained, bowing slightly, his tone respectful.
“What do you suggest we do?’
‘s
Hearing his subordinate’s question, Holden frowned, and he let out a derisive snort.
“You mean you don’t know who sent this? What if it contains something harmful and you brought it here unchecked? Or… Did you know it might be dangerous and yet you still allowed it through deliberately?”
Ever since Ariana had been abducted and subjected to a series of experiments, Holden’s vigilance had intensified dramatically.
He had stationed his own people on every level near Ariana’s ward and insisted on vetting everyone’s identity if they entered or exited the area.
The subordinate felt a chill in Holden’s tone and immediately stiffened, dropping to his knees in terror.
“Mr.
Frederick, I made a mistake.
Please, just give me another chance.
”
Holden offered no response; he merely lifted his gaze and fixed the man with a frosty stare.
“Don’t frighten him.
” Just then, Ariana stepped in, timely intervening on behalf of the shaken man.
She laid her gentle hand over Holden’s, offering solace.
“It’s probably nothing perilous.
After all, if it were truly dangerous, it wouldn’t have made it inside the hospital.
”
Holden mulled over Ariana’s words and realized she was right.
To prevent any mishaps, he had established stringent security at Mercy Hospital’s entrance.
Every item had to pass through a double screening on a conveyor belt before it reached the reception desk.
“You’re free to go now,” Holden said to the subordinate, his expression softening as he gestured dismissively.
The man nodded at Holden and cast a grateful glance at Ariana before departing.
Quiet settled back over the room.
Meanwhile, Melon, absorbed in opening his presents, suddenly noticed the big box, which was larger than himself.
Overcome with excitement, he eagerly tiptoed to tug at the ribbon.
But before he could reach it, Holden scooped him into his arms.
Holden remained cautious and said he would check what was inside the box first.
Despite the box being cleared of any immediate danger, he couldn’t shake the fear that it might contain something disturbing, which might scare the children.
After a brief moment of thought, he handed Melon over to Ariana and urged her and the kids to step back.
“Mommy, what’s Daddy doing?” Melon asked, his voice tinged with confusion.
It was just a present.
Why was Holden acting like it was a bomb or something?
Ariana, not knowing how to explain the situation to Melon, simply stroked his head and told him to wait for Holden to examine the gift first.
No sooner had she spoken than Holden lifted the lid off the box.
To their surprise, inside the box was the puppy from Bennett’s estate, now peacefully snoozing in a cage with a bowl of milk and some food beside it.
