What Separates Me and You
Chapter 436 It's Not Over

Kiran's face turned pale as he stared fixedly at Lewis.

After a long while, he composed himself and returned to normal.

"Chairman Alvarez, stop joking around. This is your family matter. How could I possibly have any thoughts about it?" Kiran said.

However, Lewis had no intention of letting him off the hook. He pressed on. "Then where did you get my father's will? I believe I'm not the only one curious about this. Everyone here must feel the same way."

Indeed, this was a difficult question to answer. If Kiran said Robert passed him the will, it would raise suspicions about their relationship. It could also implicate him in the inheritance dispute and Oberon's death.

On the other hand, if he claimed to have obtained it from elsewhere, he might be accused of fabricating the will. Kiran couldn't seem to find the correct answer.

The room fell even quieter. Everybody shifted their gazes from Lewis to Kiran. They were waiting for his response.

Kiran adjusted his glasses and smiled faintly. "Mrs. Alvarez gave it to me. She wanted me to have someone verify it. Chairman Alvarez, if you don't believe me, you can ask Mrs. Alvarez."

Lewis also smiled.

Their eyes met. Both of them seemed to be wearing ambiguous smiles. It was as if they had reached some sort of understanding.

The will was fake, and both of them knew it.

Robert indeed had another will, but nobody knew where it was.

Now that Kiran claimed Nancy gave him the will, it was an opportunity to shift the blame onto Milo.

Therefore, the missing will would no longer exist. If Nancy were to produce her version in the future, it would undoubtedly be fake.

After a moment, Lewis smiled and said, "I see. So, it seems that this will is genuine."

He then changed the topic. "Since both wills are authentic, which one should be considered valid?"

Kiran replied, "Naturally, the notarized will should be considered valid. As Mr. Addley mentioned earlier, the will was altered, most likely by Mr. Robert himself.

"So, the will Chairman Alvarez has is authentic, and the one on the table is likely an abandoned version. This also explains why the will was only modified instead of revoked and why it wasn't notarized."

With this statement, Kiran was basically admitting defeat.

Lewis lit a cigarette, took a few puffs, and turned to look at Zach.

"So, do you have any further questions?"

Zach exchanged glances with the police officer beside him.

"Now that we've solved the will incident, my task is complete. Mr. Acre's death is a homicide case, and it falls under the jurisdiction of the police. They will handle it themselves."

With that, he picked up his bag. "I apologize for taking up everyone's time today, but I wanted to clarify the situation as soon as possible. Thank you all for your understanding. I'll take my leave."

He left the conference room with his team, and the police took Milo away.

Now, only the members of the Alvarez family remained in the room.

With his injured arm still in a cast, Kiran also lit a cigarette and started smoking. He seemed somewhat resolute.

Seth leaned back in his chair and applauded. "Impressive."

Kiran glanced at him and replied, "You don't seem surprised."

Seth chuckled. "Regardless of today's outcome, I wouldn't have been surprised. But this result was indeed within my expectations."

Seth had long noticed how Lewis didn't take any action and willingly cooperated with the investigation. He suspected Lewis had set a trap.

He knew Lewis well enough. He knew Lewis wouldn't have cooperated so obediently if he realized he was in trouble. Lewis would have tried to escape or resolve the situation in his own way.

Lewis casually discarded his cigarette into the ashtray and stood up.

"President Kiran, I must thank you for clearing my name today. In return, I promise to find the real culprit behind Mr. Acre's murder and help clear your suspicion."

Without waiting for their response, Lewis turned and left the conference room.

Kiran pinched the cigarette tightly between his fingers. He almost crushed the tip.

Seth clicked his tongue. "President Kiran, it seems like you're one move short."

Kiran sneered. "You sure know how to make sarcastic remarks. Weren't you supposed to help me?"

"I did, but you shouldn't have approached Milo. You can't blame others for this mess. It's all your fault."

Seth continued, "Of course, even if I were to help you, you know my purpose. It's not to bring Lewis down."

He had advised Kiran to start with Oberon, and that plan had worked well.

Unfortunately, Kiran's impatience led him to approach Milo. His action had given Lewis a way to manipulate him.

If he hadn't involved Milo, they could have worn Lewis down or taken advantage of the time when Lewis was distracted to do other things.

"So, President Kiran, you've learned the hard way that haste makes waste."

Seth sighed and stood up. "Oberon's case is not over yet."

Kiran frowned. "What will he do?"

"Didn't he just tell you? He will find out who killed Oberon and prove your innocence."

The implication was that Kiran would eventually take the blame, no matter who killed Oberon.

Kiran pinched between his brows. Although he looked calm, he was burning with anger inside.

He had a crushing defeat this time.

Anybody would find it hard to accept failing at the last moment.

His gaze darkened. He slowly tightened his fingers and crushed his cigarette. He didn't feel any pain.

After leaving the company, Lewis drove straight back to Styx Mansion.

He spent too much time in the company, and it was already evening.

The setting sun dyed the sky red and cast its light into the dimly lit bedroom. It gave the room a desolate appearance. Josephine was fast asleep on the bed.

Lewis sat beside the bed and reached out to smooth her messy hair.

The room was too quiet. The entire villa was so silent that one could hear a pin drop. It was as if the whole world was on pause.

Mrs. Larson knocked on the door and entered. "Mr. Alvarez, what would you like for dinner? I'm going grocery shopping." "Anything is fine."

"Okay."

Lewis then asked, "Has she been sleeping since I left?"

Mrs. Larson hesitated briefly and replied, "Yes, she has been sleeping all afternoon. She didn't even have lunch. Dr. Halliday just gave her a nutrient infusion this afternoon."

Lewis motioned for her to leave.

Mrs. Larson gently closed the door behind her and stepped out.

Inside the room, Lewis kept his gaze fixed on Josephine. He held her hand, and his lips twitched, but he remained silent.
